  1. Thanks man, the second hunt was a bit disappointing but they can't all be gems, at least I got something 😀 I'm hoping the ring is gold, that would be nice. I think it was under that tree since at least the 70s. My wife says she had one like it a long time ago, and it was gold.
  2. Thanks. I was pretty impressed to have the D2 pull some coins out of all that junk, one spot was a bed of iron but I heard a high tone in there, zeroed in on it, and it was an old memorial. This is with the 13" mind you, just bumped reactivity to 3. This is my second marriage, so it hasn't been all that long 😎 but it's been great.
  3. Thanks LC, the weather is nice here. Very mild and sunny spring so far. 🙂 The only day it's supposed to rain is tomorrow.
  4. Day 2 was kinda short so I'm adding it here, it's my 14th anniversary so I didn't stay out too long, mainly hunted newer areas of the campground, and some parts I've already hit hard. I was also interrupted for about an hour by this turtle laying eggs, she's over a foot long. She was getting attacked by crows while laying in the open, so I metal detected around her for a while, and covered her eggs better when she left. Sadly I came back later and the eggs were all dug up by some animal. 😵 I went over the farmhouse site, I'd defy anyone to find anything here, it's machine gun everything. Aluminum, steel, copper tubing, all the junk you can think of and more. 😀 Over the past couple years I've got some coins out of here, mostly wheats and some Indian heads. Here are the finds today, just some modern clad and a fancy washer. All from the 70s to today. Trash wasn't bad. No detecting tomorrow probably, going shopping further south. My wife is looking forward to it!
  5. Thanks Cap'n, I decided to do the same thing today, start with vanilla General and slap some stuff on it. Did about the same as my newer version of Relic Reaper I'm working on. Still not digging much iron tho, so I'm digging that 😀
  6. Thanks, it's not stamped, surprisingly strong but thin. It's some sort of alloy. No bronze disease 🤔 I'll probably update this when I get home and get a chance to clean it, I'm really hoping it is a good one. 🙂 5 more days to go!
  7. I'd like to see that one, I've found some spurs but none with the rowel. 🤔 Congrats. Got out for a longer time today, I'll be messing with V1.1 relic hunting all week. It's another great place like home with no mineralization to speak of, ground balances typically about 78-80. Easy to dig sandy loam. 🥳 I've pounded the heck out of this place over the last couple of years but there are a lot of places to look. I'll get to try every bit of the D2's capability if I get the courage to go in the brackish water. 🤣 Just have to stay out of the woods at night because there's a bear here. 😬 So far I've found that audio filter when pushed to 5 makes most aluminum make a broken "brassy" sound instead of a pure tone, I was able to call every piece of can slaw I dug for the most part, but I'm back doing that again because you really have to when you have a new release. Also running Silencer low and discriminating iron now, I can confidently say they have improved that. Like Chase I'm digging everything pure sounding over 40, and a solid 62 today turned out to be a brass or maybe even gold ring. I'm gratefully more able to tell the difference between nickels and pull tabs.
  8. On a camping trip to a campground that used to be an old hunting lodge, it's changed hands twice and is owned by a large company now. It's near the Outer Banks in North Carolina, this is my third year coming here. Beautiful weather this week, it should be a lot of fun. The campground isn't full at all, and the General Manager has graciously allowed me to hunt pretty much anywhere I want. There are 148 acres here, and a long stretch of waterfront but no beach. There are piers and the water isn't all that deep so I may go in the water at some point. 😬 Maybe. There has to be some jewelry out there. I didn't have a lot of time today because I got the green light at about 1pm, so I went to the volleyball court and the recreation area that has a few amenities. Dug a bunch of coins and this nice looking kid's ring. It's a little crab with some sort of stone, sizable and not precious metal. Next I went out to the tent camping area. I've found a lot of live ammo here from the old hunt club but not today. Got another bunch of coins and got my favorite find today, this really old signet ring. It's kinda beat up but it has a "V" on it, it appears to be brass but it's very thin and strong. I'll have to clean and test it when I get home. No hallmarks. Here's the total take for today, lots of old clad, a couple of nickels and copper memorials. I did get 8 Zincolns but left 3 in the trash: And here's the trash. Very little iron, but can slaw is still a problem.
  9. Nice hunt Cap'n, back to basics I see 🧐 General is a terrific program, I'm probably going to start from scratch with it again but I'm testing stuff at a week-long relic place that has water hunting as well. Really like the decorated strap, the room tag and well everything really. You find unique stuff. 🙂 Glad you were able to get out!
  10. Glad you're resting, testing and doing well man! 👍 I should be posting a bit next week if they let me detect again where I'm going. And if there's anything left to find 🤔 I'm excited to give V1.1 a go in the relic field. 🙂
  11. Nice hunt Cap'n, thought at first you might be hunting grizzlies or something. 🤪 This hobby is exciting, you never know what you're going to find and often it is spectacular. That in mind it's no wonder you forget so much. Happens to me all the time, so prepare as much in advance as I can. Really awesome stuff. 👍 especially like the buttons and the little heart! The other guys may know where to look, silver jumps out at you. If you had your coil over any you would know it. 🙂 Never let that get you down. Pretty sure you were using the D2, what version was it?
  12. Nice find, my wife says throw single earrings back. 😀 She wants both. Good hunt! You're doing well with the ORX.
  13. As I stated above: These are not salt beaches for the most part, the Potomac River is brackish but not that high up. It's the different sand from different places. 🙂
  14. It did occur to me afterward. Going to add it to this program when I go again if you recommend it and use it yourself. 🙂 Thanks. Next week is all relic hunting in a mild soil environment, so it will be a while.
  15. I heard that from a couple others in your area. 😵 One said that Tungsten is the new metal for rings because gold is so expensive. Glad I'm from a different era. 🤣 However, these rings come out looking great.
  16. Once I got bottle caps dialed in to 5 and moved disc up to 10 it was a lot better. Chase and abenson made that suggestion, and I finally did it thanks to them. Air tests weren't good enough. This beach is a great proving ground for iron balance, if you're not balancing a lot you're going to dig a lot of junk. 75 to 95 is probably a couple to a few points on the TDI scale, not to mention sending iron tones sky high. I probably should use auto track but I don't have any confidence in it at present. Need more beach time. The one bottle cap was a sight pick, i used it to adjust the setting, and one Corona cap later that I threw in a trash can. The little Hennessy aluminum cap was a 94 🤣
  17. Nice hunt, hope you don't have to pay for parking and the trip is short 😀 JK I paid about $9 and my beach was an hour away, not worth the finds but it's just great to get out. Why copper wire is such a thing on beaches I'll never know. 🤔
  18. I've got enough finds and junk now that I should set up a test garden, but I do find changing settings on the fly and saving them works well, I can usually remember what I did because I tend to only change one setting at a time. 😅 There are pay for parking spaces along the road right next to the beach, it's a good idea to walk along them as people will drop stuff fumbling with their beach gear. When the group of detectorists saw me digging there they swarmed it. Wish I got some gold or silver but it was gratifying to get 3 rings anyway. This isn't a high end beach so you get what you get. It is also poorly maintained with bargain sand.
  19. Thanks Doc! I've pretty much wiped out the place I'm going to, but they are expanding it, and they even let me search the tent campsites when I told them I found live ammo near fire rings 😀 There is no beach but there is waterfront with piers for jumping in the water. I'll have to watch the tides to be able to get anything with my scoop, neck deep water makes it pretty impossible to press a scoop in. I don't have scuba gear. 😁
  20. Yes. There are lots of them here, they give a distinct sound (multiple tones) and an id around 58. They were brought in with the sand, probably from a sand pit used as a target range. .22 short.
  21. Thanks! 🙂 Iron detection is better for sure, the falsing can be mostly eliminated by turning on a target.
  22. Today was the last day I could get out before a week long relic hunting and possibly water hunting trip. It's been raining since Saturday night on and off, windy and in the 60s so I didn't expect to find much at the beach I went to. I recently updated the D2 to V1.1, did some air tests to create a new beach program. Used Beach Sensitive, disc at 10, no notch, no Silencer, Bottle Caps ended up at 5. High Square Full Tones audio. Gotta say I really thought XP had got the iron falsing under control with my air tests, even aluminum makes a distinct "brassy" sound with this program. However, all that glitters is not gold. 🤣 This beach is rough, at one end there is a motel and the beach is almost all pebbles, you cannot go barefoot or wear sandals if you have old feet. 😀 In the middle it's a mix of sand and pebbles in bands, and the other end it's a mix of sand and red clay. Ground balance varies from 79 to 95 depending on where you are. Got here early hoping at least someone braved the weather and came to the beach, it looks like some did and I was the first to hit it. 3 other people showed up later and complained they weren't finding anything, I sort of had to bite my tongue. 😏 Iron did false until I changed bottle caps a bit, there is quite a bit of junk in the sand. Pushing disc to 10 helped a little, I'm glad they fixed the audio. With disc at 10 most iron will disappear. (Thanks Andy!) Most pull tabs have that brassy sound, I dug a few to prove it. I think one was in the 70s so I dug it anyway. That one fooled me. I was getting coins here and there, they jumped out sharply with very close IDs. Managed to get at least one of every US denomination, and a nice 1945 wheat. That was a great sign. On the pebble beach I got a 47 and found this tiny ring, I doubt it's anything good but it was a solid tone and ID. It was just in the surf, and pretty deep. Next one was this bling ring, a hard 85. Looks like it's been there a while. My best ring today was this tungsten carbide and malachite ring that my wife took immediately, it was a 54: About $15-$30 on Amazon. 3 Keys Jewelry. Here's the total take: And the trash: The doll swims if you tighten the innerspring by spinning the arms. 😀 Second small doll I've found there and second pair of tweezers. 😵 It was interesting to see the difference between air testing and real world, never done it before. Think I'll stick with real world.
  23. If you take good photos, Lens is pretty good at identifying stuff. 🙂
  24. Hey Cap'n, Nice hunt, your coin is Rama IX from Thailand. Don't know what year or denomination, but he's wearing cool glasses 🤣
  25. I did this, and I stand corrected. Thanks Cap'n and Carolina, they wouldn't update and worked just fine after the update, so I made an incorrect assumption. 🙂
