  1. I think it's great, one of my first college projects in the 70s was determining what kind of computer a local business needed. I gave them a note pad and pencil and told them why, Computers were too expensive and unreliable back then, it was a small business. It has also proven to be true that computers did not lessen the need for paper backup, I proved that again and again until I retired a couple of years ago. I believe paper consumption about tripled with the advent of computers. 🀣 At this point keeping a spreadsheet of your favorite flavor on your cellphone is pretty reliable, and changing it is easy.
  2. Wow, if you're going to find a button, that's the one you want to find. πŸ‘ is it silver or silver wash, or Tombac? Buttons with animals on them were usually hunting jacket buttons. You mentioned a silver buckle, would like to have seen that. I have an underground power line in my yard, the Equinox goes nuts over it, but the D2 was pretty good. I say "was" because my new RV has built in cellular and wifi for remote control, and I've added 2 more cellular cameras. 🀣 Glad I strip mined it a long time ago.
  3. That was me, and I only mentioned the WSA II headphones. They will not update. πŸ™‚ I don't have the WSA II XL.
  4. If it's weight you're concerned with, the Deus 2 is the lightest detector out there. With the 13" coil on a carbon fiber shaft (SteveG) the Deus only weighs 2.7 pounds. That is lighter than the Equinox on a carbon fiber shaft with a 10x5 coil. The 11" is a tad front heavy but you will get used to even the 13" in no time. Look at the long haul for what you want rather than short term gratification. Additionally the WS6 Master you can put together by getting an extra shaft and using the 9" is so light it's barely noticeable. Don't forget you can also put the remotes on a wrist or arm band and only swing the coil. No other system is this variable. I have all 3 coils and prefer the 9" and the 13" elliptical. I do most of my hunting with the 13". The 11" goes along in the 280 backpack if something goes wrong.
  5. Good advice VL, but the 600 is just as waterproof as the 800 πŸ™‚ I've dunked mine a lot and had no problems.
  6. It shows V1 but will update you to V1.1. WSA II headphones don't need updating, you will find your pinpointer there but will have to save your sensitivity settings again.
  7. It is. 😈 I'll send ya updated settings when I've got it all together. Took it in a field in front of my house and dug two relics in 15 minutes.
  8. Nice hunt and report Jeff, the spoon may be for pouring lead, but I'd hate to be handling it after a while. πŸ˜€
  9. I loaded up V1.1 this morning, and took it outside to check it out. Loaded up Relic Reaper, threw a board on the ground and did all sorts of air tests with nails, coins, and other junk I've found including the trusty beer can bottom. The D2 has the 13" elliptical on it. First thing I noticed with the update is that I didn't have to update the WSA II headphones. πŸ₯³ Updating to V1 was all they needed. Observations: I did not have to back off to 24 kHz to mitigate iron falsing. πŸ₯³ Iron is iron is iron now, almost scary for me. Used all sorts of forged, hammered, square, bent nails from the 1600s to the 1800s. I'm using square high tones now for that PWM brassy tone on aluminum. They cleaned full tones up too much. 😭 Some aluminum did an up/down tone passing left to right then right to left in V.71, that's gone. Oh well. Put a silver dime down, got its VDI, and then put a hammered nail on top of it. I'll be darned if it didn't hit cleanly on the coin sweeping over the width of the nail, and even along the length it blipped 91. Disc and notch independently to 10 had no effect other than to quiet the nail. I'll have to try both. I run Relic Reaper at 0 disc and no notch. Want to hear it all. Put a pull tab down, and got a handful of nickels, the pull tab was 62 and the nickels 60. Slightly different less brassy sound with the nickels, lifting didn't have much effect unfortunately. I was glad to see nickels ID'ing differently. Beer can bottom was way brassier sounding, and lifting helped. It also drew a square on the XY screen. Tried a nickel next to the pull tab and was shocked to see both VDI's even with Reactivity at 0. πŸ‘ Wow. I didn't find a huge amount of difference adjusting audio response, but the tones were more defined the higher it went. For some reason Silencer does nothing for me. πŸ€” Didn't help with iron at all. Iron was iron. I run bottle caps at 3. Conclusion: Definite improvement over V1, I'm happy to have my Relic program back, real ground experience will sharpen me up. The deer flies got bad so I quit.
  10. Thanks for getting out and testing real world, Cap'n! πŸ‘ Looks like you got about rainbow-ed out there, from the Hot Wheels car to the jewelry. 🀣 Love the fine linen and china display as well. Your report is encouraging, I was still trying to be objective with V1, but apparently they made it a bit easier to be. The audio response bit is intriguing. πŸ€”
  11. Nice hunt G-hound. πŸ‘ Chase made an excellent suggestion to me as a modification for Relic Reaper, lower Max Frequency to 24 kHz. You might want to look into Rattlehead's Silver Slayer, I think he is changing it a bit for V1 but in high EMI it ran quiet even under power lines. At least you'll find some coins πŸ˜€ Every now and again my D2 will come up in a strange audio configuration, I restart it, and that usually fixes the problem.
  12. Great hunt! πŸ‘ You got some excellent relics. Your Dandy button is made of Tombac, an old combination of copper and zinc, it may have lead and tin and arsenic as well. You'll notice the engraving might be irregular just slightly, many were hand engraved. Far less expensive to make than brass buttons. They are from the period of 1770 to 1795 if they are larger than 30mm. They were in use until about 1815, after 1795 they were generally smaller than 30mm. They were a status symbol. I'd track down the text on that bicycle plate, that would be interesting, and no worries about the large cent, just be glad you got one, they are often unreadable but the bust can give you an idea of age. Look up large cents. I like relic hunting best of all, glad you're enjoying it. πŸ™‚
  13. Thanks Cap'n, Iron was easy to dodge with the program, and when in doubt I switched to Relic Reaper to be sure. Pull tabs were a different story, the pieces were lower tones in the 50s so I dug them. Gotta figure out how to get that up/down tone in RR back, might be audio filter. πŸ€”
  14. Thanks Colonel, I'm always willing to take a fresh look at my machine. I think you may be on to something. πŸ™‚ Memorial Day is coming πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡² ✝️ and after that somber remembrance we need to hit the beaches like Normandy πŸ˜€ right now the pickin's are slim.
  15. Thanks Ogliuga, I think that since so much has changed with the operation of the D2, we all need to take a step back and focus on what we need to do to get the most out of the new settings. These were logical and well-considered changes for the most part, and the time it took to get them right was considerable. It took me a year to get comfortable and confident with the previous version, so why would I think updating and adding features would make me able to walk right out the door and find more gold? But that is exactly what happened. In 3 hunts (two short, one long) I have found two gold objects. πŸ€” I have no idea why, but for sure the D2 is finding me more. Gold. We should all get together here and take an objective look, and I think that is happening. I am pretty confident that anything I'm missing from V0.71 is still there, it's just a matter of finding it or tweaking some of the new defaults to bring it back, if that is even necessary. Only time well tell, same as it ever was. I am sad that our prospecting friends are disappointed that XP did not fully address their needs, as I see it the Deus 2 was intended to be more of a beach and relic machine anyway. I've written it before that if Swiss Army knives have too many blades and gadgets, they become too cumbersome to use. The D1 and ORX both seem to be more geared to relics, coin shooting and prospecting, and they still make and sell them. All I ever asked for was a 10x5 elliptical. 🀣
  16. I would normally post this in jewelry or coins and relics, but I think the D2 forum is best because I'm testing V1 and a program that I got from @ColonelDan. It's based on Beach Sensitive and it's really good but still in the testing stage due to the V1 update. I first tried it at my small beach but because it's not after Memorial Day I got totally skunked, just some junk. I felt as though I could rely on this program however. Today I went to a larger beach about an hour from my house eager to try the program. I had been fooling around with a Beach sensitive program of my own, but this one seemed better as it doesn't use any filters at all for the most part. This beach is in strong contrast to my little one, the little one has pure white sand with a little black sand mixed in, this one is pebbly and coarse in some places, and others it has red clay mixed in. Got out there pretty early, and my first target is possibly gold. It's a small bezel that was probably on a watch. Got some coins and Hot Wheels, the usual stuff, one of the big things this program does is to make coins stand out and skip many pull tabs. It did its job. I was poking around a palm tree, and got a really nice 93 ID and tone, and to my surprise dug this 1916 Mercury Dime! It's not a D or an S, I was shocked but really shouldn't be, I've found other really out of place coins here. It was probably brought in with the sand. It's all brown and trashed but still silver. Here's the total haul today, not bad, and thanks go to Colonel Dan for his program. I used it beside Relic Reaper even in the wet, and I was impressed at its solid coin IDs. I used the Reaper to check anything that "pipped" in the notches, and even scored 4 nickels. And here's the trash: A few bits of pull tabs that were outside the notch ranges, some whole ones that were also below, and lots of tiny metal bits. Otherwise the same old same old, just well... Better. πŸ™‚ Nice beach day overall! I'm fine with the update, nothing degraded or incorrect in my opinion.
  17. The 0.71 update stressed that you needed a USB 2 or 3 port minimum on your computer. If your connector on your computer has a white plastic block this may still be a problem. It should be blue or black.
  18. Everything seems way more reactive except bump sensitivity which I noticed is almost completely gone. Hunted a site I've gone over many times with many detectors, didn't find much but that is one of the first things that jumped out at me because of the ground stubble. Only heard a peep when I managed to whack a tree or two. Runs very quiet now. Both objects came from the same tree under the roots. I also found out that it's a good idea to sharpen your shovel now and again. 🀣 Forgot how good the Predator Ranger is with roots. There is a lot more to learn.
  19. My WS6 was unpaired as I've been using it as a WS6 Master. Used it the next day. I haven't tried to re-pair it to the remote, is that where it locked up? "Press - button while turning on" is a pairing message. I didn't have to do anything with the coils or the pinpointer, I did have to unpair the pinpointer for the WS6 and redo that. Sorry y'all are going through this. πŸ˜ͺ
  20. Heh, I bow to JCR and a few others, seems like they've seen a lot of relics. I just use Google Lens, and hit paydirt now and again, a lifetime of searching for stuff on the Internet has given me some skill. That and sort of a relentless spirit. Yours took less than a minute! πŸ˜€ I've only found one Cash coin with no details in one of the farms I have permission to. Let's say the "immigrant" laborers here weren't exactly minters of currency. I'm fascinated with how old some of those are, and it takes quite a bit of searching to identify one. The details have to be sharp. Some of them are very old. Really love the stuff Western and Western-ish detectorists find. πŸ‘ It doesn't have to be too old to be rare and cool.
  21. Wow, Doc!! Beautiful button pendant and coin. πŸ‘ You find the coolest stuff.😎 Which detector found em? Here's a treat for ya: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/exonumia70795.html Thanks for sharing this stuff! πŸ†
  22. Haha, Black flies. Yup, glad they're not here, but They were rampant where I lived before. Nasty little buggers. πŸ‘
  23. A fate that is unavoidable for all of us, no matter our delusions of invincibility 🀣
