  1. Just ship the dang M8 already. Ship the dang thing. Okay, I'm actually hoping for Christmas and have totally written off using it this year. But, ship the M8, yeah? - Dave
  2. Very nice! I did a similar u-turn for a sidewalk tear out on one side of the state capitol about six weeks ago and got nothing worth mentioning. - Dave
  3. So I probably did jinx myself. After posting this, I hunted I think 7 times with no silver... So why not jinx myself again? Got three this morning! - Dave
  4. First I have heard of an M9. Very odd. No word on lower shafts, I guess? Thanks Gerry! - Dave
  5. I know some people couldn't be bothered to dig nickels. But I like digging them. And the Manticore really does have a stiffy for nickels. I've been hitting really nothing but trashy pounded park turf this summer. And the Manticore is really scrounging out the clad from the trash. But the way it says "Nickel" is like it really has the hots for nickels. With all the hours I've been putting on it scrubbing the turf, I'm calling them at over 90% accuracy anymore. Quarters are the only other coin as easy to call with the Manticore. A little over 400 nickels (by weight) with the Manticore this summer. - Dave
  6. Since Tom D. announced that they are released, maybe someone could ask him to announce US pricing and where exactly in the world they have been released to. I'm in for the M8 whenever I can actually lay hands on one. But as already mentioned, I ain't holding my breath. - Dave
  7. Agreed. I remember the carb kits well. Actually just rebuilt a pair of Amal's for my old Triumph not long ago. And the way that piece looks to have gaging for several different aspects built in, I think you are on to it. - Dave
  8. What a fun looking hunt! Finds combined with location = good times! - Dave
  9. Likewise. And putting down money to pre-order anything Minelab sounds as appealing as chewing tin foil. But if this means they'll be generally available in another six months that is good news. - Dave
  10. No mystery on why they are there. This is public park turf. Lots and lots of people doing lots and lots of stuff. I know the most common advice for jewelry in parks is the sports fields. But I seem to find a lot more rings in the trashy picnic type areas than I do the soccer fields. Or, for that matter, the trashy sideline areas of the soccer fields. I will say, that I think the Manticore has upped my game in picking good stuff out of the sea of trash. It's just wicked fast and wants to grab on to high conductors. I have mostly been using it by going back to areas I had previously kind of written off as "too trashy". Or, too much EMI. Or in some cases, both. Specific parts of parks I had started to avoid with the Nox. I've been able to do pretty well with the Manticore. - Dave
  11. I find quite a few of those sterling CTR rings around here. I've been able to give a lot of them away, but I still have at least a dozen of them. Haven't found a gold one yet. My hunting buddy found a nice large gold one last summer though. And he found a 10k diamond ring yesterday, while all I found was clad. I shouldn't have posted about my luck... - Dave
  12. Had minor anxiety about posting . - Dave
  13. I have been on a bit of a tear on the .925 rings lately. Just how things go, sometimes you run hot, sometimes you run cold, but I have been running hot for .925 in the trashy parks the last couple of weeks. I got one today a little nicer than the average though. Makers hallmark is QG, which I found is Quality Gold and this is Rhodium plated .925 with either a lab grown or natural Sapphire. Bunch of worthless even if "real" diamond chips. And it (almost) fits! Hard to get off... It was only about an inch deep, in the machine gun nonferrous trash. About fifty feet from where I found this one, two days ago (I didn't get out yesterday). And the average ones I have found in the last two weeks. Probably jinxing myself by posting my luck... - Dave
  14. I've been chilling out but now I'm starting to get pissed. - Dave
  15. The kind of ridiculous stage has been reached. It's 8 months now since Manticore shipped. Thinking about trying some nugget hunting next month when it cools down just a little bit and I'm peeved that the M8 is still unobtanium. It's like Minelab is doing everything they can to drive me away as a customer or something. And I think it's working... - Dave
  16. It's not the pin pointer that has a problem. It's my hearing that is the problem. I'm completely deaf to many higher pitched sounds. When going through the ringer options on my phone to choose one, I can't hear some of them at all. Too much gunfire... - Dave
  17. Interesting. I can't hear my Carrot in day to day use. And I can't hear it on this video either. I assume it wasn't in vibrate only. People tell me mine isn't either. I can't hear it at all though. But the vibrate works fine. - Dave
  18. Too soon... It did it yesterday while in disc mode too though. I was expecting a call so carrying my phone. Was digging a target and I guess having the phone that close to the coil allowed it to bleed through even in disc. - Dave
  19. .338 perhaps? Better choice than a .300 for grizzly, IMO. - Dave
  20. I'm not having any problems with rusty bottle caps using default ferrous limits. That's turf hunting, in one of the AT search modes. I have dug so few of them, I can't even tell you what the signs are. Crown bottle caps have just been a non-issue for me, even the Corona crown caps I used to dig so many with the 800, just haven't seen many come out of the ground using the Manticore. It's one of the "likes" I have for the Manticore vs the 800, bottle caps are dang near a thing of the past, for me? Aluminum screw caps, though... - Dave
  21. Had a chance to mess with it briefly. With my phone it does it in both ATHC and ATLC, all metal. Didn't try any other modes. Sounds like a stuttering turkey gobble in 1 Region All Tones, BTW... But I'm sure I could play with different audio settings to get a different ring tone on the Manticore. Did try the friends iPhone 13 that she was calling me with to determine the above. It didn't do it with my phone calling her phone. Beats me... My first stab at it I think it looks possibly phone specific. But that would take more testing than I'll probably ever do, in order to be sure. I have a simple solution though - don't carry my phone turned on in my pocket while detecting. Which, I normally don't, anyway. Have a new Android (Wife's) and another iPhone 14 Pro (Daughter's) in the household. Haven't had a chance to corner either of them for a test yet. But I'll try. - Dave
  22. Apparently not a long enough ways yet though I've only been using ATHC quite a bit the last couple weeks. About as long as I've had this phone. Mostly ATLC or ATG before that, or Beach Deep at the beach. But playing with ATHC in the garden and on wild turf targets the way @abenson has, has me using ATHC a lot on turf now. Quite interesting that the Android doesn't do it. If I can get anyone rounded up for a few minutes today I might try some backyard testing in other search modes, maybe even see if my Wife's Android doesn't do it as well. I'm leaving the phone in the truck or turned off if in my pocket though. Can't hurt... - Dave
  23. Pretty sure it was someone wanting to let me know my car warranty was expired 🤣. - Dave
  24. Something I've only recently noticed with the Manticore. At least when in ATHC, all metal, if my phone rings, so does the Manticore. Confirmed today that it's only in all metal, don't know about modes other than ATHC. It may have always been doing this. I typically leave my phone in the truck while detecting. Was doing some testing in the backyard last week and got a call and was surprised that the Manticore picked up the ring. Had my phone on me this morning while detecting and it happened again. That's when I pressed the horse shoe to go into disc mode and that did stop it. Anyway... Like I say, don't know if this has always happened or if maybe it's just my new phone? An iPhone 14 Pro that I've only had a couple of weeks. But can't say it wouldn't have happened with the old phone if I had chanced to have it on me while in all metal. Just curious how many others have noticed this? - Dave
