Its possible you could have mineralized dirt and that could be affecting thngs, thats why a higher recovery speed is working. If minelab would put a mineralization meter on the manticore it would be much easier to solve. Just for a test set your ground balance to zero, recovery to 5, and increase sensitivity to as high as possible and see if it can actually detect those coins. Then try lowing recovery and see if you can still detect them. Do that in every mode and see if any of them work better. One other thing, not sure if it was mentioned in any of your other threads if you don't have mineralized soil then its possible that you could have a defective coil. I've seen a few post with people having issues and it was the result of a defective coil.

I've never seen the overload icon either on the manticore. Who knows if mineralization strength is programmed in the software. Either way I'd like a minerization vertical bar on the left side of the ID number. They could shift everything over to the right and make space for it. And they could put an on/off switch in the settings for people who don't want it on. I also wish they could tell us what those ground balance numbers actually correspond to, I've heard that its the type of mineralization. I wish they would include some info in the instruction manual explaining it a bit better and explain how to deal with the different types of mineralization when detecting.

The skid plates are really flimsy. My skid plate kept falling off a few months ago. I checked it and found a crack about an inch long. I contacted minelab support with pictures and they sent me a new one under warranty. So if your skid plate is falling off check it for cracks, if it's got one contact minelab support and get a new one.

If you're in that type of situation again try lowering the recovery speed to check signal. Higher recovery speeds negatively affect depth, lowering them will let deeper signals come through better. Even with lower recovery speeds the manticore still has good separation, you might need to swing the coil a bit slower at the lower recovery speeds. Also try rotating around the signal and see if the signal changes to iron at all.

Is that magnetic black sand? If so that will make it more difficult to detect deeper targets. Bring some coins with you and bury them that way you can test out each mode with a known target and figure out which mode/setting works best at that beach. It will also give you a better idea how deep you will actually be able to detect a target there.

No idea how much depth is lost, but if you're not having issues with iron falsing best to not turn it on.

Just note that stabilizer will affect depth, I only use it if I'm in an area with lots of iron that's giving me false signals.

Sounds like the EMI is causing you a lot of issues testing in your back yard. It would probably be easier to head out to a location that you want to start detecting and get away from the EMI. Also make sure you switch back to using multi frequency rather then single frequencies when you first go out.

I remember this video where they were changing the limits to accept Canadian coins, might be helpful.

Probably a 4" x 2-1/2" coil, Tom D. mentioned in one of his posts regarding coils for the manticore the following: "Truthfully....... I'd like to install a 4" x 2-1/2" elliptical double-D coil on Manticore..........then collapse the shaft ALL the way down to airplane-transport///minimum-size. Think: Cellar-holes..............under porches ...............pit-digging............indoor-fireplaces/walls............attics............pinpointing........Civil War trees.........school demonstrations/presentations..............tree-holes.,.,.,.,., . , . , . , and the list goes on-and-on-and-on-and-on. [[[ I have MANY more thoughts on this!!! ]]]" His excitement for this specific coil leads me to believe that he already has one. And the size would work better in heavy iron infested sites.

Tom D. commented on his forum, its a 9 inch prototype and wasn't supposed to be on your list. "Hmmmmmmmmmmm. That info was NOT supposed to leak out. Yes. There are a few proto's floating around. Here's one tidbit I'm willing to share: --- As to be expected; the 9" coil is not as deep as the standard 11" coil......with identical settings. BUT.......(for instance)........ in a wet-salt environment.........the performance is less than the 11" coil with same settings; YET, the smaller coil allows for additional Sens increase.......due to the smaller coil seeing less wet-salt feedback/hinderance. With the authorized extra Sensitivity increase......... nearly all of the depth is regained.....and nearly to the same performance levels of the 11" coil. The 9" coil is formidably lighter. We are still debating the "need" for this coil. We are still debating the "marketing" of this coil........and the associated projected sales numbers. Not sure we'll even produce it."

Perhaps it could be one of those mythical concentric coils that we rarely see anymore!

I have the threshers, I don't do much underwater detecting but I've done a bit with them. On the nox 600 they were plenty loud enough for me, even under water they worked well. On the manticore I haven't taken it out in the water yet but I did try them out and you'll need to have the update on it so you can use the Audio Boost feature otherwise they might not be loud enough. They're comfortable and the headphones seem well built. Not sure I like the wires hanging loose, if you're in open water its not an issue but if your detecting near hanging tree branches I could see them possibly getting hung up on them.

False advertising!

Kinda depends on the areas you're hunting. It seems if you're in moderate to higher mineralized soil the old software might work better. Look through the thread for the videos by Abenson showing the differences between the two. I'm keeping the update cause I don't have heavily mineralized soil. Plus I like the new stabilizer feature for the heavy iron sites I hunt. Even without using the stabilizer it seems quieter and has less falsing.

For me having a mineralization meter wouldn't just be about ground balance, I would use it as another tool in determining if I should dig a signal. Right now with the manticore if I hit a coin size object and it IDs as iron shows up in the iron area's of the target trace I'm not going to dig it. However if I know how mineralized the ground is then that would help determine if some iron signals should be investigated, maybe some deeper non ferrous items are getting ID as iron because of higher mineralization.

The only way I can figure out how strong the mineralization is for the ground I'm hunting is to bury a coin and see if I can still detect it. If I can't detect it in a few inches of dirt then its very mineralized, if the coin signal turns to iron then its mineralized. Not very accurate method but the other option is to bring a second detector that has a mineralization meter with me to test the dirt. Nothing like using a $250 simplex to check dirt mineralization that a $1500 detector can't lol.

I feel like everyone needs to start emailing Minelab support and request the mineralization strength meter. I know people say that minelab looks at forums but who knows if they actually do or not. I don't think Cabela's is gonna sell any extra coils for the manticore. Just search minelab on their site it just brings up detectors and no individual coils.

This past weekend I got a solid 98 signal on the manticore(with the update) in all directions using AT-HC and AT-LC(using stabilizer) with a little iron mixed in. I figured it would be iron as the signal was in what was left of an colonial rock wall. Ended up being an ox knob a few inches down. So ya never know, maybe its iron wrap around or maybe not!

Perhaps he's waiting for some patents to be approved before releasing anything new. I don't have the original tarsacci but the tech is very interesting and I'd be interested in the 2nd gen tarsacci.
