I wasn't referring to videos or YouTube. I was more referring to the detecting groups and such on Facebook that people post pictures of "finds". This is exceedingly bad on pages like the Manticore Facebook pages, and similar machine specific groups where they are really trying to push a machine.

Has anyone else noticed a huge uptick in obvious faked finds being posted? Not here...but on other sites and in particular, social media hunting group pages? I'm talking about silver and copper coins "in the dirt pile" pictures that have zero oxidation, patina, etc and the silver look like it's been rubbed on with metal polish paste...that kind of luster to them. I guess they thrive on comments or something. I saw some tonight on an arrowhead group I'm on...guy had 5 modern points posted together that are the kind you get at the souvenir shops, gas stations, and such...not even made from material found here in the US...and claims he found them at a certain place near me. If he did...somebody planted them as a joke. I thought he was posting the picture as a joke but he said he knows their real because he knows other people have found native rocks there too. 🤔 Well heck...I guess beer cans are from the Civil War because we find them on property we also find Civil War relics too. Stuff like that probably shouldn't irk me but for some reason it does.

Great video. However my TekPoint sucks. It's one of the worst pinpointers I currently have.

Careful...all property on the TN River banks is TVA and TVA is strictly prohibited for metal detecting. Even the swim areas. This is including up to the 100 yr flood mark above normal "summer pool" levels.

Mine is still on V1.09. I've not attempted the update yet. It's that way through both the machine speaker and head phones.

I'm wondering if it's just my hearing or if it's the Legend audio...does the Legend audio sound static/crackling/rattle to you guys? Mine sounds that way through the speaker of the machine and headphones...I have even tried with a better pair of Bluetooth headphones and still hear the same thing. I thought it might be from using several tones and it being the blending audio but even with 2 tones, I still hear it. Only way I can describe it is like the sound coming from a busted speaker. One of the audio modes on the Manticore was the same way to me so it may just be my hearing with certain frequencies. Take it from me...just one shot of a 44 Magnum revolver with a ported barrel is enough to cause some pretty good hearing loss.

That's why I think mine is draining power even when OFF. That's exactly how mine has done...think I left it on after the last hunt but didn't. I'm thinking mine was dead out of the box too. The reason I say the Minelab ones are NG is because the one I had, you practically had to be touching the object to get it to sound off. Even in YouTube comparisons, they are the weakest ones available. If I have to touch it to get it to sound off, that means I can probably see it with my eyes and don't need a probe for that to begin with. The Quest is fitting the bill so far...although I did have to reduce sensitivity from the Max setting. It was actually TOO sensitive.

X-Pointer Max is the one I have. I didn't like the MI6 unless it was paired to the Deus. As a stand alone unit, I didn't like it at all. The added sensitivity while paired to the Deus really helped it though. The F-Pulse and TekPoint are indeed the same. I don't like them because of the falsing...and I end up chasing ghost signals/phantom beeps with it. The AT ProPointer is great except for the battery life. I think that's going to be a big plus for me for the Quest. When I charge the detector and headphones, it will be a reminder to also charge the pinpointer. I usually find out that the Garrett is dead when I am out in the field and a ways from my truck.

That's exactly how mine is and how the F-Pulse was too. I think that's just how they are.

For some reason the quest (no pun intended) to find a good pinpointer has been quite expensive and full of trial and error. I think I can say I've had pretty much every one on the market. Nearly all of them have quirks and some things I absolutely can't stand. The Minelab ones are probably the worst of the bunch. The Garrett AT is one of my favorites but mine goes through batteries like crazy. I actually wonder if something stays on that drains the battery when it's off...because mine only lasts about 4 to 5 hunts before the battery is spent. The Whites TRX was another favorite but mine has quit working. The Fisher and Teknetics pulse ones...false WAY to much for my liking. Well...as I was searching here and there, I ran across some posts here about the Quest pinpointer and decided to try it. Heck yes! It's not fool proof but it has now taken over my top spot for pinpointer. I don't know how it will last in the long run but so far I'm satisfied with it.

I didn't even see the version numbers up there before. I looked when I got home. Mine is 1.09. It'll have to stay that way for a while: busy week ahead for me. I bought the LG30 over the others because it seems to be the one everybody seems to be liking the best. I wouldn't have thought there would be much difference between the 11 inch round stock coil and a 12x9, just looking at the dimensions. I would have gravitated more towards the LG24 if it would have been me just going for a coil based on specs. But I've seen very very little out there about it. Seated silver doesn't come often for me either. East Tennessee just isn't known for producing large numbers of silver coins from that Era. It has been years since I've found a seated coin. My last one was probably 2009 or 2010 and was a couple of seated half dimes. This is the 1st seated 10c dime I've ever found.

Even still...an iron filter/bias setting adjustment is only useful if you know it's there. My unit is new but didn't come with anything detailing what version it is and the hardcopy manual it came with doesn't have that in it. The download able version does, but I would have never found it had I not saw the posts here. Go easy on me...this thing just came Friday afternoon. I've still got to update it to whatever the newest version is too. All I've done so far is charge it. JCR - Correct on the soil. It's only 2-3 bar soil on the T2 platform. That was another reason I took it to that particular place...didn't have to contend with hot soil complicating things. And yes, the 11" round coil is the only coil I have. I didn't buy the Pro pack. I do have a 12x9 ordered though.

I didn't dig any iron or have iron falsing. But I also didn't have a clue what you guys were talking about with the iron bias settings. My printed manual mentions nothing about it. It wasn't until I read these posts and downloaded the new updated manual, that I saw what you are talking about. My printed manual must be from before all that stuff was added in newer updates, because it's not in there. When I was playing with it in my yard and home test garden, M1 had the best response vs the others, so that's where I kept it. Most settings I haven't even moved from the factory presets. This was just a maiden voyage hunt. I was only hoping to find a minie ball or two since it was too windy to go fishing. A seated coin caught me off guard. The 1885 coin date is even better to me. I'm a movie buff and Back 2 the Future is one of my favorite series...and 1885 is the year Doc and Marty went back to the Old West in B2TF 3 haha.

Story time: I took the Legend to a little spot in my home town where I had dug a few dropped Civil War bullets last month. I was hoping to get some more. I figured it would be a decent spot to take the Legend to, to see how it would run. The minies I had dug, hadn't been that deep. There was some trash there...can slaw, deeper iron, etc. I hunted in park mode M1. Ground balanced and let er rip. GB was around 48. I actually didn't find much there...but that was to be expected. Legend was running very smoothly. I dug a deep brass piece to a door and a deep piece of melted lead. Then I get this really good 46-48 signal all the way around. I dug a 3-4 inch plug and still had a signal in the hole. At around 5-6 inches I had it out and it was the dime. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. 3rd signal I dug! I dug several more coins but nothing old. And didn't dig a single bent nail or a nail at all. I'll definitely be going back there now.

That's how my bank is, but the machine rejects most everything that isn't just shiny pocket change. I actually tried it at the beginning of this month with some tumbled dug coins. Their machine must be extra picky. Haha. I dump all my loose coins into a jar when I get home. We had approx a gallon of non dug coins that we also took. It accepted all but three of those...and they ended up being oddball foreign coins and it came out to a little over $110. I had roughly the same amount of dug ones that it wouldn't take though that I chunked in the dumpster at the landfill when I went.

I'm interested in this also. I've tried the rotary tumbler technique with aquarium gravel and dish soap...never could get mine clean enough that the automatic coin machines wouldn't kick them right back out. I brought a whole quart jar full to my bank and they wouldn't take it and the machine rejected 3/4 of the coins. I've got to where I just throw all my dug clad coins away since they are apparently worthless.

I didn't bring a detector with me. I looked up the state park rules before I went (Bull Shoals State Park) and it wasn't allowed. I only brought clothes and fishing gear. We are going back in May to fish a day or two and look at some land while we are there. I went fishing earlier this week here in Tennessee and was only catching little stocker size trout. I got tired of catching them and loaded up and went back home. Arkansas spoiled me.

I hope this falls under the guidelines as general chat. Fishing has always been my #1 hobby. You all know me from Civil War relic hunting and such but that's always been 2nd or 3rd tier for me. I live in the foothills of Tennessee and North Carolina...trout fishing was huge in my life growing up. So when my brother inlaw tried to get me to go to Arkansas to fish for trout..my first thoughts were...WHY? Why drive 10 hrs one way, to catch fish I can catch 20 mins from home? After nearly 3 years of begging me, I gave in and off we went to the White River. Now lemme tell ya...up to the day we left, I wasn't exactly giddy about this trip. What in the heck is in Arkansas? And why am I wasting a weeks vacation to go there. As soon as we got past the flat terrain and into the hills and ridges of Central Arkansas...I saw why my brother inlaw likes it so much . It looked like it does back home....minus the subdivisions and housing market explosion. It was like taking a time machine back to how it was back home, 30+ years ago. I was liking it more by the mile. Then when we saw the river...ohh yeah. My kinda place. We arrived with just a couple hrs day light left. We got our licenses and went to fish from a public spot on the river. My first cast from the bank...and I was holding a rainbow trout equal to the size of my biggest back home. It was just the start of what was to come. The White is known for big brown trout...something I had only caught a few of back home. The next day has us up early waiting on the fishing guides to pick us up. After introducing ourselves, we shoved off onto the river boats. First cast later, my wife was holding a 22" brown trout...her biggest trout and I had never seen a brown that big in person. Before I could get my phone out...the guide slid it back into the river. He said "I promise...they get a lot bigger". I couldn't fantom that. But he was 110% correct. By the end of the day we'd boated 19 brown trout and a half dozen rainbows...and that 22 inch brown was the smallest. The next day we woke up to 19 degrees with a 20 mph wind. I was about froze...my fingers numb. And it was a slower start than the day before. A cold front had came in and we didn't really get on a strong bite til after lunch and still managed to boat 12 browns, including my biggest to that date, a 25" five pounder. I said my trip was made with that. The next day...started with my wife putting every fish in the boat up to lunch. She had me at 8 to nothing including some really good 25-26 inch fish....5 and 6 pound browns. Then...about the last hour of the trip, I hooked into a big brown...28" and 8 lbs. I was grinning from ear to ear. And ready to come back before we even left for home! I can't believe I'm saying it...but within the next 5 years, we'll hopefully be leaving TN for Arkansas. I loved it that much. I'm not a people person and like solitude. Tennessee has become the opposite of that. Go figure...a trip I wasn't even wanting to go on, has me ready to move haha.

Sure, other companies have put out newer models onto the market. But it seems like we've went backwards instead of forwards. 4 AA batteries in a T2 will last 40 hours of use. Detectors today won't last 8 hours with their internal batteries. They are supposed to have more power which increases battery consumption but that's not translating into more depth/performance. In fact, put a 11" size round coil on a T2 like these newer machines have on them and do some comparisons. The biggest advantage the others have is: waterproof? That's only for situational hunting; not everybody hunts in the rain or water. The other might be SMF but that really only shines in salt environments. It would be nice to see some signs of life from them but hey, what they came out with in 2007/2008 is still hard to beat.

Nokta has always been quick to come out with new model machines. You could say, this is one of the negative things about them. The Simplex+ hasn't been out all that long and now it is being replaced with new hardware, etc. For dealers, that means they have Simplex+ machines they will have to practically give away and customers that might have the Simplex+, will also be hit with low resale value. Especially if Nokta comes out swinging with even lower prices on the new units to combat the XTerra Pro.

I've not had any other NEL coil besides the Tornado. The SuperFly is much thinner and lighter than it for sure. On my T2, it air tests a minie at 18 inches in all metal BP mode activated, and 16ish inches with regular all metal. In ground, in my 2 bar dirt at home, I don't have anything buried in my test garden that is beyond what it can hit and also correctly ID. I like this coil size because now days, every detector out there is coming standard with the same size coil and that makes it easy to do comparisons. The dirt I found the dropped minie in (in the picture) was NOT 2 bar dirt. It was actually 4 bars and creeping into the real hot dirt zone. The Manticore and Deus 2 were very chirpy there and I had to back them off to get them to smooth out. Same with the T2...but at 70 sensitivity, I was still digging stuff deeper than my pinpointer is long. The dirt there has been "turned" or back filled in some spots. I got a sweet 70s signal that was right at 12 inches down and pinpointing right in the bottom of the hole. I would have bet $100 it was going to be a deep minie ball. Nope. Screw cap to a liquor bottle. 😄 I'm fixin' to go hit a spot on our property that my dad cleared out with his Bobcat. I noticed he kicked up old brick and blue feather rim china in an area clearing out scrub brush and stuff. The little 8x6 SEF is about to get a work out...and maybe the 5" round coil too.

You better edit that. The Nokta lady will go ballistic on ya for speculation without having an X-Terra and Simplex 2.0 in hand to compare.
