  1. Nice bunch of finds Dcraun. I really got to know my D1 when I took the control box off the stem. Same with the D2. I wear the controller on my arm and hardly look at it.
  2. Wow! Good work there F350. Yeah I will definitely play with that set up some more. I will even try Reactivity at 4 😁.
  3. Good luck F350. If you sniff out another real, I'll be switching to Tekkna full time. 😁 I've already set it up "Gekko" in General in anticipation of wet soil conditions this weekend. We have rain coming in tomorrow and it will melt the remaining snow. While I will always hit a site hard with high reactivity settings, it really does lose a lot of depth. With my pounded sites, I'm confident that I've got most of the shallow iron-masked targets. It's the deep iron-masked targets that are the ones that I am focused on.
  4. Thanks for the report F350. I gave it a try myself Sunday morning. What I find scary is that I also lowered the Iron Volume to 7 and the Reactivity to 2.5 and raised the Audio to 5. 😄 But I didn’t sniff out any Spanish silver. I did recover a nice tombac though. With using all that Disc, I did like the fact that I wasn’t tempted to dig as many bent square nails as I normally would be tempted to dig. It’s not the program to end all programs but I’ll play with it some more. I think more than anything, because it was “different” I slowed down a bit and concentrated on the slightly different audio responses, and that helped me find a few targets from a worn out site. I used the 9" coil this time. I started with Reactivity of 3, dropped it to 1 for the heck of it, but that made the deeper iron hit harder, and settled on 2.5 for most of the hunt. Lodge
  5. Yeah that describes it pretty well F350. 🙂 Reverse has less detail. But you can tell it was a well-struck coin. Those early Draped Busts seem to be well-struck.
  6. Thanks F350. Yeah, I did have 00 notched. The chirping was just a bit of a nuisance, it didn't slow me down too much. I had the Sensitivity at 96 and Max Frequency at 24 kHz. Next time I'll drop the Sensitivity a bit and raise the Max frequency and see what that does. I was surprised at how hard Relic hit it compared to my other programs with the same Reactivity and Sensitivity.
  7. It was a bit cold this morning with the windchill in the teens, but the sun was out for the first time in ages so I was going to go out detecting! I've been using the 13" coil on my D2 for the last couple of months so I decided to give the 9" coil some exercise today. I also haven't hunted in Relic mode for a long time so I gave that a shot as well. Pickings were slim as I had expected, so I was surprised to dig this 1801 Draped Bust. It was deepish at 8 inches or so. I flipped through several programs before I dug the target and Relic did hit it the hardest. This site is known for a lot of bent crusty 200 to 300 year old square nails. Even with the IAR set at 5, it was still getting a good amount of chirping. Lodge
  8. Spanish silver and you seem to be running into each other on a regular basis F350! Well done!
  9. Good work F350! The real is a great find but I really do like the oyster knife blade. You can just picture someone shucking oysters right there. You mention that the GB was "set at 75". Is that where it naturally read because of your mild soils or did you set it manually to 75?
  10. That is cool! Looks like it weighs a few poinds. 😄
  11. Looks like a GW to me F350! That would be a great find even in a toasty condition.
  12. I appreciate the detailed review Colonel. Do you just remove those top thumb screws to remove the unit from the case ?? What I am asking is it quick and easy to remove the controller when you want to. Lodge
  13. Raziel, I will sometimes use negative disc when I am after very deep targets or really what I mean is when I am after good targets with very weak signals. At the edge of detection, nonferrous targets can begin to sound like iron. I don’t want to disc out those very weak signals. I suppose setting disc to “0” would serve my purposes, but with my very mild soils, I can drop it down to -6.4 with no additional negative consequences that I can notice. So yes, in some circumstances I find that negative disc can both get me more relative depth and prevent masking. Lodge
  14. I'll use -6.4 Disc with Full Tones or Multi Tones in certain conditions. I have a lot of sites that I've worn out over the years and I find that using some "extreme" or nonconventional settings will help sniff out some goodies from these tired sites. I am a fan of setting tone bins in Full Tones and adjusting the volume. At iron laden sites I'll often set up a bin to bracket the iron falsing VDIs and then set the volume to zero. Sometimes extreme conditions require extreme settings.
  15. Good vid. Gary's "extreme" settings are pretty much my normal settings. 😁
  16. That double tournois looks to be in great shape for a 16th century coin! The buckle may be "typical" but it is still a great find. Nice hunt!
  17. F350, great post! If you are going to compare versions, that's the way to do it. I was out with V2.0 yesterday and also noticed the increased bump sensitivity. But it's not enough for me to be concerned about. Cool button ! Can you ID the era? So do you think the Reaper is back ? Lodge
  18. I went from 1.1 to V2.0 last time out. I pulled a Large Cent from an EXTREMELY worn out site. I am not saying it was the V2.0 , because there were a couple of other variables at play. Even though I really can't say for sure V2.0 was the difference, I got the feeling that V2.0 was a bit more sensitive and a bit more reliable in tone and in visual ID. Time will tell.
  19. Shiny yellow stuff first time out with the new coil !! A wife that demands you go detecting !! CPT, you are one fortunate dude! Congrats on the coil, the coin and the wife! All keepers. Lodge
  20. Thanks everybody. F350, the credit on this one goes to the 13"coil and the D2 for being so adaptable and versatile. I shouldn't be surprised anymore when the D2 coaxes something out of hiding from a worn out site. That 13" coil is something. It's pretty much my go-to coil these days.
  21. We had gotten a lot of rain earlier in the week. I knew the ground would be wet so I decided to go with General and a 5 Tone program. I hit one of my favorite colonial era sites. Looking at my records, the last time I pulled a copper from that site was 5 years ago. But I have hunted there many many times since. 2 minutes into the hunt, I get a debatable signal and dig a small cuff button. But the "quick find curse" struck me and it was another 45 minutes before a dug another button and then a small pewter spoon handle. A little while later a get a very soft but fairly smooth high tone. I take a peek at the controller on my arm and it is showing 90-91. But I am sure as soon as I circle around it, the signal will turn to iron. I was really surprised that it stayed locked in to 90-91 almost all the way around it. I still had my doubts as this target is only 10 feet from the cellar hole and this site has been pounded to death and not just by me. But I was happy to dig an 1802 Draped Bust LC. It's toasty but it gave up a date. This site had given up 18 coppers in the past with the youngest being 1809. 14 of those coppers were dated in the 1700s. This copper was only 5 or 6 inches deep. It was slightly on edge but you wouldn't think it was a hard target that would elude me for 10 years. I was using the 13" coil and had Reactivity set at 0.5 and I was going slow. The other pic is finds from last several hunts. Lodge
  22. Well done Sinclair ! I learned that same lesson this year. I swing much slower now and I'm finding more deep targets than I ever did.
  23. I use the armband just like that Doc when I am not actually wearing it on my arm.
  24. I've been using Version 1.1 since it came out and figured last night it was high time to go to V 2.0. The controller updated no problem. Piece of cake. Next up was the WSA IIs. I followed all the steps, hit the update button and it deletes the old software then freezes up on the upload. Tried it several more times including different USB ports, no luck. Now I can't even shut off the WSA IIs. OK, next up is the WS6. Same thing happens. It erases the old software but won't install the new software. Now the WS6 is also stuck in the update mode and won't turn off. I mumble a few choice words and decide to deal with it in the morning. This morning both the WSA and the WS6 are still powered on from last night. I plug the WSA IIs into the my laptop, hit Update and boom....perfect. Plug in the WS6, hit Update and boom.....perfect. I guess the server in France just needed a good night's sleep. 🤔
