  1. Hey all, dug this Quarter last Sunday. It was 5 inches deep in horrible alkali, read about like a weak Zinc but I was consistently hearing a high tone. The park I found it in dates back to the early 1920's but has been heavily detected over the years, the only other silver I have found there is a war nickel. Been trying to get out with the T2 as much as possible instead of wallowing around in the wailing and gnashing of teeth( yes I am waiting for mine also). Alkali ground is tough for a 2 year newb such as myself. Wish the coin was in better shape but I was happy to get it. The nick in the rim was caused by a wildman in the park flailing about with a big knife o
  2. Anytime I go coin hunting and can find at least one silver coin or any coin in the 1800s- I rate a good hunt. IH dated 1899. Meter read 21 one way, 23 the other, good signal.
  3. Found with Garett AT Pro in olives fields. Golden
  4. Think turkish empire but not sure. If someone can identify would be great. Garett AT PRO couple inches deep. GoldEN
  5. Nice little silver coin detected by Garett AT Pro in couple inches of soil. Keep safe and dig everything. GoldEN
  6. This is the good stuff I was able to pull out of the ground yesterday and today. I have really been focusing on digging "gold" type targets which is why I have all the nickels. I managed one ring but I think it's junk(no hallmark) 4 silver dimes, two harmonica reeds, marbles, some tokens, lipstick case(I think) and the 611 brass tag. What isn't here is the 67 pop tops and beaver tails that I dug in my quest for gold. I'm trying to keep track of all my trash gold sounding targets this year so I can develop some sort of ratio of how many pop tops I dig to gold. I also dug some mystery coins, bigger than a penny, smaller than a quarter and thin. No idea what they are. This was really made possible due to the rain we finally got on Monday and Tuesday. Instead of dirt cement I had wet dirt which allowed me to dig quickly.
  7. This morning i got up early and did one or two things before going to the beach for a 10.30 am start . I didn't bother checking the main beaches i do but got a Bus to the furthest beaches that i dont normally do . I started on the beach and a lot of the time it was quiet but then as before i was finding coinage in lines and next to groins . I had a long walk back to the normally better beaches but didn't care , all the while i was finding something i was happy . I was hoping for another Gold but that wasn't to be this time and by 2 pm i had to get a move on and walked back to the main beaches over a mile away . One of my last finds was an old Silver ring , i also found 6 fishing weights but haven't taken a picture of them , they just go straight into the bucket. My total for today was £36.40p , a Silver ring , 6 lead weights , a Foreign coin i couldn't identify and for the American here a US Dime from 1979 . My next trip is on Wednesday but the weather might stop it , its going to be very wet and rough . But then again who cares .
  8. I posted the main story over on the Minelab Equinox Forum but here is a picture of some recent silver finds. This is the best I have done on silver in a relatively short period of time in like decades. That is mostly because I turned away from coin detecting as a focus and into nugget detecting around 20 years ago. My new digs down south with the potential for coins far older than I could ever find in Anchorage, Alaska plus some new detectors has rejuvenated my interest in hunting coins. For the first time in ages it seems, coin detecting is going to be high on my agenda for 2018. The 1916 Barber dime is a major score for me, being only the second I ever found. Gotta love the Mercs, one of my favorite coins, but the showcase coin here is the 1945 S Walking Liberty Half in excellent condition. Great way to finish out 2017 and has me all fired up for 2018! Now that I have a photo of the coins as they came out of the ground with just basic washing I am going to clean up the ones that are just regular value silver coins with the silver polish. I know that probably horrifies the coin collectors out there, and I would never do it to a coin with true numismatic value, but for run of the mill silver I like them shiny and clean. I will post a before and after shot whenever I get around to doing it.
  9. Found this a few years back. I had been working some old tailing piles during the morning. Around noon I sat down for some coffee along the upper ditch dug for the workings. I got up to do a little more detecting after noticing a moss covered rock ring next to my sitting spot. The mining site was In the Southern Mother Lode Country of the Sierra Nevada. It is an 1854 Seated Liberty Dime without a mint stamp. Turned out I sat right on it; wasn't more than four inches deep. You figure that old fire pit had been used to boil coffee in the past?
  10. I was at Ganes Creek, Alaska in 2002 on a gold nugget hunt using my White’s MXT. It was early days before they bulldozed for people and so there was a lot of non-ferrous trash found each day while looking for gold. One day I decided to take a picture of the junk from one day of detecting to show people how many holes got dug for trash. And this is only the non-ferrous. Any bolts, nuts, cans, etc. get dumped in the nearest pond throughout the day. So I take this picture and before I go to toss it in the trash a broken grommet in the upper right catches my eye. It is not a grommet at all, but an 1892 Barber Quarter with a hole shot though it! Large caliber at that, which split the coin. Any normal days I would have just dumped that stuff in the trash bin without looking at it, so my taking the photo was fortuitous indeed. This coin really is one that did almost get away! I like to imagine that it was all about. Why is there a hole shot in this coin? A bet or just somebody showing off? The edges of the coin are pounded also, prior to the coin being shot. Just a really interesting find with a White's MXT. My only Barber quarter find and it has a hole blown through it!
  11. You might be thinking, what is the big deal, but... This dime came from a hunted out site using the TDI and the OZ 12" coil. The coil was loaned to me by GB_Amateur aka Steve. I have been hunting this small area, maybe 50' x 100' for over 2 years. This site has given up many silver and copper coins. The site has also been hunted by two of my hunting buddies using the CTX 3030, Whites DFX, Fisher F75 and of course the TDI. The OZ coil is super deep in this area and extremely stable. I also dug over 10 nice large nails prior to finding this dime. I must admit I had been purposely looking for only the deeper sounding targets and ignoring the shallow one. I might add one more thing, all the nails sounded about the same, but I dug anyway. On the other hand the dime sounded strange compared to the nails. Can't explain the actual sound, but hope to soon, hear it again. If possible I might try to record the actual audio and post for all to hear. May be a few days before getting to hunt again, weather will turn much colder this weekend. Thanks again Steve.
  12. Well here I am in good ol Santa Clara, my first hunt with my new Deus... And what pops up as my first coin ever with my new detector????????? In my front yard????? LOL... A 1916 French coin!!! Figures, hope this is a great sign of things to come.
  13. I hunted an early 1900s Park this week that I had not been to before. I had a solid two hours in to the hunt with only a few clad to show and I was loosing confidence in the location. Working my way back to the truck I pick up a couple of wheats, so I start gridding the area. Pretty soon I get a quarter signal at 5" and start getting my hopes up. I figure it's deep enough to be silver and sure enough my First Barber Quarter, a 1911 is staring back at me! Well that got the blood flowing and a renewed confidence in the park. For the next hour I dig a few more wheats, a pocket watch, and an old shotgun Shell. I get a mess of tones from a spot and am able to isolate another quarter signal out of the confusion of sounds and VIDs. I knew I might have a coin spill, and I was right! My first silver coin spill. I dug the 1896 Barber Quarter, shocked that I pulled not only my first, but second Barber quarter in the same day. Off a few inches to the left, I widen the hole and get a worn no date Canadian Victoria silver quarter (minted 1870-1901) and just next to it a 1906 V Nickel! To top the day off, after cleaning up my coins at home I find that one of my wheats, a 1912 S is a key date! Definitely a hunt I will remember for quite some time. Bryan
