  1. Man, that stone looks beautiful to me! Nice job finishing it! Yea Please Tell me about the place you stopped at where you found the stone. I don't think there is a rule preventing you from doing that. Also tell me/us about the Klamath and your dredging experience if you don't mind? Terry
  2. Fred, you read my mind. Actually, my Daughter lives in Arkansas and I actually had read up on it and was one of my definite planned stops along the way.
  3. Like I said so much for the title of this thread. I just did a deal for my 3rd detector. A used CTX-3030. I'm getting a great deal thanks to Mr SLGuin. He will get his micro Jewelry detectors in exchange. I've stretched my budget but I feel like I have 3 great detectors all of which I got at a great price so I am happy and glad I came to this website as it's provided me so much knowledge and I've made a couple friends in the process as well. Terry
  4. I have never held a Sport in my hand but I know that many of us on the sidelines awaiting honest reviews of the machine still form an opinion based on honest reviews from folks we are familiar with on this site and trust. We are thankful for their honest opinions both of the positive and negative aspects of a machine. This review sounds like a very open-minded review. Per this reviewer, some of the problems with the sport are related to the 10" coil. Some to the lack of an explanation of the ground balance. Some to the loss of the pin point and with use of the 20 tones. Was there a failure on the part of some testers to offer their honest opinions or is it that some machines work perfectly fine? I was interested in possibly buying one thus my interest. Just my opinion but I think Whites tried hard to give us a great machine but based on this and some reviews by folks I know there are some issues yet with it. It appears there are work-around's to most of these issues per this review but issues none the less which brings up other questions which are glaring to some of us but are issues that White's can only address.
  5. We have been having a lot of rain and was a busier than usual weekend as well but got out for a few minutes to play with the Eureka Gold. I did some quick air tests today with it using a silver quarter, a Indian Head penny and a tiny copper small rifle primer that had been fired and popped out of a bullet case (I reload). I just used the built in speaker on the detector and ran sensitivity maxed and volume set pretty high. I ordered the 8" round and 15" round coils but right now I only have the 5X10 DD. All coils for this machine are DD for whatever reason. I don't know that the air depth means much but it was a place to start. I was getting as much depth on the indian head penny as the silver quarter at about 11" or so in boost mode. I could hear the little primer at about 5-6" depending on the frequency setting. It seemed for the most part to get about 1" extra depth over all in boost but I think I will see less difference in boost once I get my audio amp set up on headphones. Using the 5X10 coil there wasn't a drastic difference in depth between the 3 different Freqs (6.4, 20 and 60 Khz. It detected smaller items better with the 60 and 20 freq than with the 6.4 khz but larger items got slightly better depth with the 6.4 but not by much. I was near power lines (7000 V) and there did seemed to be a slight crackling in the thresh hold but nothing I couldn't live with. All my tests were done less than 50ft from those high power lines with minimal effect. I was told this machine doesn't fare well with air tests so I wasn't expecting much depth but it did better than I expected so I'm pleased so far and interested to see how it does later. When the other coils arrive I'll test it again and better record my findings. Terry
  6. Hay, Soon to retire for the second time I planned a trip west. Initially planning to just keep it simple and go where others found gold I got to looking at the Geology thread and realized I don't really know much at all about actually finding gold. So maybe it wouldn't kill me to do some reading which might increase my changes of finding something. I had also thought to go to some of the pay to play gem mines along the way and I still may but I got to thinking there are probably good places I can go on public land and find gems etc if I better know what I'm doing. So what I'm looking for anyone who cares to share literature you found helpful in your search for Gold and gems. I'm talking literature the average person can understand. I found a pocket guide to Rocks, Minerals and Fossils that might be handy and was cheap: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Geology-A-Folding-Pocket-Guide-to-Familiar-Rocks-Minerals-Gemstones-Fos-/361023605665?hash=item540eaf0ba1:g:BVgAAOSwbdpWbk-O I'm not a total novice as I've done some prospecting but I don't mind getting away from the crowd and I don't mind walking. So if any know of any of you know of good books or guides I can pick up that might aid someone like me it would be much appreciated. I'm also interested in any prospecting clubs in the NW US or public lands I can access in the same area (NW) as I am starting my season in July around Sumpter Oregon and thinking it best to stay a little north to avoid the worst of the heat that time of year. I hope to maybe get out to Arizona and Nevada in the winter or spring but not concerned with that area for the time being. I am thinking to join the GPAA again so I can access their claims if for nothing else to be able to camp on. Terry
  7. Somebody needs to make the movie now for us that don't even read the directions till we can't get something put together or make it work without reading them.
  8. Nothing much prettier than seeing gold in the sluice box! Hearing the river and not a motor is great too. If I could pull in just a 5th of an ounce a day working 5 days that would be more money than I make working the job I am doing right now.
  9. Does the metal seem fairly light? Looks to me like it could be cast aluminum like maybe from a boats outdrive. Put a magnet to it to see if it's magnetic, if not, I would bet cast aluminum.
  10. Thanks Fred, I will heed that recommendation. My favorite coil with my 3500 was the 8" commander. Terry
  11. I would have fired my dealer or found a different one. But actually the dealer I have I know I wouldn't fire but I do think there is a chance he might have recommended something else. But once you make your bed you gotta sleep in it. I think if I make the best of the Eureka I'll be OK and I think you would have too John but the MXT as you know is one great machine. It's one that stayed till the end as one of my choices. Had one popped up like new at 435 shipped like the Eureka did it would be hanging in my hobby room right now. But the 3 frequency option did help tip the scale. I had it outside to day for just a few minutes after work just to get a feel for it. So far so good.
  12. Fred, Unless I start thinking too much again, the third detector will be the CTX 3030. I figured the 3030 would cover most everything else I want to do detecting wise pretty well. If I get lucky and find a nice ring for my wife before I head west she might even still be around when I get back. Maybe? So much for the title of this thread "one detector for all things" LOL
  13. Great Job Scouting! Not only do you have some gold to show for your work, you have a place to go where there is likely more.
  14. Here are my 2 detectors thus far with one with one more detector to go and 2 or more coils to go. The GPX 5000 and the Eureka Gold.
  15. 6.61. Is that 6.61 lbs, ounces, Grams or grains? I'm thinking Grams but might as well be optimistic.
  16. Don't know if you want to move down to a GP 4000 but there is one at Gerry's Detectors for sale: Minelab GPX-4000 with 3 coils & Training $1950. You would get free training with it as well but you would have to go to Nevada or Oregon and if you can't go there they might offer a small discount? The GPX's I searched on Ebay are too high. I was also quoted a really good price for a new GPX 4500 from this same company when I bought my GPX fairly recently. You would have to call Scott at 208 345-8898 (Mountain time USA).
  17. I didn't know all that John. I would have have looked at the relic harder during my search but somewhere along the way got steered away from it by the lack of a prospecting mode. I've heard some say too that the Fors detectors balance a large coil better too due to their weight distribution.
  18. Don't forget about the Fors Relic, Hey John and Danny. In my search I also looked at the Fors Relic as it has the 19kzh frequency but if I recall correctly it doesn't have a prospecting mode so may not have the best use on Mineralized ground that the MXT has. It does however have a beach mode so probably decent as a single freq beach detector and for sure a great relic detector.
  19. Over here in the States second hand GPX's aren't hard to find for different reasons. Often they are sold by the user or by the dealer who takes one on a trade up to a GPZ.
  20. Here's a well used one on ebay right now. It has 12 hours left on it and sitting at 100 dollars. Somebody ought to buy it and reverse engineer it? http://www.ebay.com/itm/white-big-foot-17-5-coil/331837706718?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D36499%26meid%3D0e7bb1363c9742efb1ba6d4be45ef62f%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D111981388089
