  1. Firstly a comment, at least to me, amounts to a super "like." Secondly those two pictures are the best of the bunch so far, really intriguing and interesting. Now, just in case it's not obvious, I'm hitting "like" in your post. 👏
  2. You're about to pass 50 thousand views in this thread GhostMiner, just letting you know that about 5 thousand of them are mine. 🙃
  3. I would also like to give a huge shoutout to Clay Diggins. Your involvement in mining claim and land information has literally changed so much of what people like me, who have no background in what you are sharing, have available to us. Forum members, if you have not donated to Land Matters (http://www.mylandmatters.orgv) you should think about it, the work that site has done has made a difference for all of us whether we know it or not.
  4. Those photos are a good wake up. An important reminder of the backbreaking amount of work that was put in. Sure the gold was there but it was no easy pickings. As we follow along on their adventures, I am constantly amazed at the level of work described in the journal - and seeing the setting again, 100 degrees in the summer and snow in winter. They earned their ounces.
  5. It's really quite amazing to read of their successes, we are vicariously living our dreams through this timeless journal.
  6. Also, let's remember there are ten people for every one on this forum, who are out there doing their research, putting in the effort in the field and finding amazing gold…and they don't feel the need to say a thing. I don't blame them.
  7. I thought it was a big deal when I was dredging in the mother lode rivers spending 8 to 10 hours a day underwater for a whole summer…but then when you spend two weeks working a hole through 12 feet of overburden only to find a Chinese coin in a crevice in the bedrock, you get real with yourself; those guys did it by hand after they flumed the whole section of the river they were working in first. cheers
  8. Another window into Jed and his crew. Thanks. One of the details that comes through so clearly in these tales is just how tough these folks were back then. The work was back-breaking and the elements were harsh. We can still see so many examples in the Sierra Nevada's of the amount of work put in by the 49er's and the people who followed them. Not many of us today could lead that way of life.
  9. I like the episodic aspect of this…it's fun and it sure as heck has the site with a ton of hits. Bring it on... (glad your eye is gonna be okay)
  10. So good to read that dreams really do come true every once in a while. Thanks for posting...
  11. If the grizzly was 4 inches, that sounds like a pretty large Tom. If it was a large one, the gold recovery would be better... Either way they're getting an unworldly amount of gold out of that kettle.
  12. I am properly "staggered" by that amount of ounces. Like so many others, I am having a great time following Jed's journal entries. Not many people would think of sharing something like this.
