  1. I was tempted, but that monster found stuff 2' down. He was golf swinging it, but I bit my tongue 😀 very nice guy.
  2. No worries Erik, remember that metal detecting is becoming very popular and you have a lot of competition, in many cases there will be someone out there with a much more capable machine, and everyone is looking only for the good stuff. Guy I met yesterday said something to that effect from the more superior viewpoint. 😵 With all the hype about gold prospecting lately it'll be like when golf became popular. People who probably shouldn't be doing it will be everywhere, throwing their detectors like noobs throw golf clubs. 😀 I enjoy the hobby and don't get upset when I don't find much, either I had an off day or there wasn't anything to find. Take my last 6 days for example. I didn't do as good as some but much better than most thanks to all the great people on this forum.
  3. Tried a bunch of things and got nothing. Strange item that... 😵 But cool. How big is it? It seems like some kind of spice or salt dispenser lid.
  4. Recap: Keeper coins, $3.10. threw out about 4 crusty Zincolns. Mostly quarters. 2 rings, both 925 silver. One Pandora charm, 14k plated 925. Two earrings, one may be gold plated. Case pocket knife, Space Pen, Apple watch series 3, working. Only kept one sinker and a carabiner. 4 Matchbox style cars, gave them all away. I got out 4 hours every day for 6 days. I could have done better if I had more experience, but I learned a lot, and my wife got some fairly nice stuff. ♥️
  5. True. Not every day one finds a $50 knife in any decent shape I'll wager. 😀 Two of the blades are bent and a bit cruddy and the bone is chipped on one side, but it's sharp as all get out. Codes reveal it to be a 2019. Going to straighten them and clean it up. Didn't get too much sand in it either, but it was buried. Crazy ID, a fruit salad of numbers. Steel, brass, zinc, nickel.
  6. Yes. This one: https://knifeworks.com/case-2806-medium-stockman-blue-bone-6344-ss/
  7. Got out really early today, it's my last full day here. walked the towel and tent line, there isn't much left. Dug a couple of pennies and a few other things, I dug a working Space Pen, a wired toe ring, broken white metal fish ring fragment, a costume earring, and a nice little Case USA jackknife. It was abused, I'll have to straighten the blades. Ran into a detectorist at the hotel, he is a local who comes up now and again. He had a Minelab Sovereign and the largest coil I've ever seen, about 15-20". He was dragging his shovel behind him to know where he'd been. He showed me a gold plated pendant and a gold ring, he had to dig a huge deep hole to get the ring, I think. One of his holes was enormous. As I've written, targets are deep here. I'm guessing some are deeper than the Equinox goes. This is my trash: found a "spill" of Matchbox style cars all in the same place about 4". I cleaned them up and left them for kids. Won't lie, I dug two of the bottle caps. Rest were on top. Some of the pull tabs were too. For some reason bottle caps weren't throwing much of an iron tone today. Lots of boat brass and copper deep here. My wife took the space pen, she wants one. I geared on the other guys' line of digs and followed the low tide way down the beach, where I got the large gold hoop, it was a broken 5 and very deep. Only "gold" I found! Got one of the pennies out there too, nothing else but small brass and copper plates. I was kinda disappointed. Better luck next year! 😀 It's been a great trip.
  8. Never mind I looked it up. 😀 I did notice that some seaweed was "hot", but there's not a lot of it, and not all of it was. There are many gaps where there is nothing. Most of it is right at high tide line and there is about 100'+ of beach below when the tide is out. Today there is a .10 negative tide when I'll be out there, too bad I won't be here Wednesday for the .30. 😵
  9. There is a little seaweed. Can you tell me what difference that makes? There is a lot more stuff above the high tide line.
  10. I've been told by the previous owner of this land that the deep ravine right next to my house may be "very interesting". She said when she was a kid she found lots of stuff in there. I don't want to disturb it, the karma enough is overwhelming. It's also full of snakes. 😀 However, the fields are fair game.
  11. Thanks! It is a great place, but not enough gold for me. It's not high end. I haven't found anything to date (ever) with a "K" on it. I'll probably film myself dancing a jig when I do. If it's here I should be finding it. I pretty much don't ignore any target because there are so few.
  12. Thanks. 🙂 Already got a Samsung Frontier watch, waterproof and big. Works great with my stuff! When I get it cracked I'll find out who owns it. Not an Apple fan at all. The coins go in the coin jar, all jewelry goes to my better half. 😀
  13. Ha, I took a shot at it, thanks for the correction. 🙂 Much to know. I do find lots of areas where there are high concentrations of oyster shells in my farms. So many in spots it's hard to dig. Since I'm 60 feet or more above the river, they have to have been transported and buried there. From experience oyster shells can stink! I'll be looking for this in the fall now, maybe there will be some sifting to do. Thanks for the info! 👍
  14. Day 3, we had a good low tide here. Got out early. Walked the beach in the other direction, made my search field a little smaller because of the concentration of hotels and condos, many more "depositors" in the Bank of the Beach. 😀 Very few out this morning, most people leave on Saturday and Sunday. Should be even fewer tomorrow. It does fill up by 10 tho regardless. Pretty trashy day, picked up a bunch of bottle caps, the new nemesis being the aluminum beer cap. These buggers are a solid 14/15. I have to dig them all. 😵 Bottle caps aren't a worry, I pick them up when I see them or they're within one scoop. Nice carabiner tho. 😀 Sold a few Equinoxes today, lots of people asking what they should buy. Here are the finds, probably the best yet but not enough Vitamin K for me, as in 14k. 🤬 Dollar in in quarters, got one of every kind again. I was getting worried and then got the nickel. The small "C" is probably silver, from Costa Del Mar sunglasses. It was a 26. I call them "Costa Del Lots". Apple watch series 3, still working. Gonna have to buy a charger, I don't do Apple. One is on the way. If I can find the owner they can have it back. Favorite find today is a 925 sterling wave ring that matches a gold one I dug in Savannah. My wife loves it. Hope to collect other colors as well. Got it confirmed, they did replenish this beach year before last. At least 1 foot of sand was deposited all the way to the point. 😵 No wonder the targets are so deep.
  15. They call 'em "tinklers". Guess they make noise when freshly made. I was thinking bead beads. 😀 Rolled up brass. Great stuff. Might have found a few of those as well. Lots of Indian activity where I hunt at home.
  16. Thanks Joe, they pair well with the Equinox, I've only had to restart both a couple of times. I turn them on, wait a few seconds, and then turn on the Equinox. That seems to be best. It'll take a couple minutes initially.
  17. Another morning at the beach. Weather is stellar here, the Camping Gods are with me. 84 and pretty dry, onshore wind. The tides are with me too - when I go out early it is low tide. Lotta beach to cover. It gets eaten up by 10 but I've already hit it. I get out at sunrise, no one on the beach. I was on the towel and tent line today, covered about a mile. Saw a kid with an AT-like detector, his girlfriend had his shovel. Watched him for a bit and he was golfing, so I knew he wouldn't find much. But I did 😁 not great but standard for this place so it seems. Trash was minimal, the bottle caps weren't an issue for me since I cranked IB to F2=3. All bottle caps were picked up from the surface. Pull tabs were a different story tho. Got me some stainless hardware. 😀 There are lots of tent stakes here too but they always show at -5 to -8, so I don't pull many. With IB at the mentioned setting a bottle cap is going to be 12/13 or 14/15, but you also get a -5 to -8 on the back swing. Easy. Every day I seem to get one of every coin, don't know why but I'm fine with it. All modern. Favorite find of the day is this rose gold Pandora "Mom" charm. It's 14k plated 925 sterling, with CZ (cubic zirconia) stones. It was a weak 7. As usual it went right to my wife. 😀 They sell for around $50. I hunted around for the rest of the charm bracelet, someone probably dug it but missed this one. https://www.reeds.com/pandora-mother-heart-charm-clear-cubic-zirconia-rose-gold-plated-plu19846393.html One thing I haven't mentioned. During this trip I am using Recovery Speed 2. Finding stuff routinely at 10" to over 12" is telling me I'm doing right?
  18. I gotta say I'm using these headphones at the beach and they are awesome. Even with the surf crashing I can hear the slightest tone, and I'm aware of my surroundings. No sweat either. For $39 they are ridiculous. 😀 Got a second pair as a backup. Great summer headphones!
  19. Thanks VL! The finds are sparse here but if they're under my coil I'ma get 'em. Nah. 925 silver with artificial diamonds. Wife still loves it.
  20. I can see why this took a while to get together, that must have been a blast, regardless of the lack of coins. Great old jewelry. The embossed Ford item in your second photo is a model T hubcap - the very one I used for my avatar. No idea what the second one is. I'd say that was a really successful trip. 👍 Great story and history.
  21. Well yay. It's great to post here! Hit the beach again this morning, went where I knew there wouldn't be much but wanted to get it out of the way. Got some coins, one of each at least again. Running in Beach 1 near the water, Park 1 works until the sand gets too dry at the high tide line, then I switch back to Beach 1. Ground balance was at or near zero. This place is easy, but every now and again I hit some mineralized sand and get lots of iron tones at 2". That's when I switch to Beach. There is no EMI here until the cell phones start coming. Some excitement, this guy caught a 4' shark... I got all these again at chest height to high tide one way and knee height coming back. All modern. Trash was minimal again, all the bottle caps were on the surface, I just picked 'em up. This is all I got, didn't dig anything big or heavy except for one buried wine bottle. Ran into another detectorist, he had a White's MXT. He was just hacking around the place he was staying, high on the beach. He complained that all he got was bottle caps and pull tabs, and everything was deep. Yep. All my coins were 10-12" down, nothing in the first or second scoop. Maybe they renewed this beach recently. I told him where he might find better stuff. I had gone up the beach to talk to him, and headed back to the line I was walking, didn't want to tread on his turf. I'm going to hunt the upper beach tomorrow anyway. Got a loud 17/18 at about 4" walking back, I was gonna skip it but it wasn't too deep. Scooped and got this little sparkler: Says IBB CN 925, means Chinese sterling. It has 13 stones, 2 are missing but my wife doesn't care. 😀 I imagine they are CZ's or Moisannite. My loupe needs new batteries to turn on the UV, so I'm going with that. Also found this nice Mattel car I gave to a kid. Good morning!
  22. Thanks Joe. Appreciate the nod. The finds are spotty, but there is good stuff here. Got a few more days. 🙂
  23. I used to work... 🤔 😀 Thanks, it is fun. Payback for all those years of trifle. 😵 Guess we all gotta do it. Miss your posts! Figured you'd retired on all those great relics and Gold. 😉
