Appreciate the additional info. 👍 My question is does the coax need to be stripped at all? There is no physical electrical connection, the wave is passed via induction, isn't it? I'm considering shrink wrapping the end of the coax, putting ~30mm next to the coil transmitter bump, and letting the sheilding do the work. 🤔 I'll let y'all know how it goes.

You did nail it here, Colonel. 👍 Nothing pinpoints (or X-points) better than the 9", except maybe a 10x5 elliptical 😏. I'd be first to pre order one of those despite the price if XP decides it's heard enough of our "kvetching" about it, and makes one... 🤣 10x5 10x5 10x5 10x5 10x5 10x5. Did I write 10x5? Yep. 😀 Check.

You'll be happy to know that I have found that your detector rod for the Deus 2 is more than great for the 13x11. Once the lower rod is shortened enough to make it "float" in the hand, it is a breeze to swing. I'm 6'1 and have no issues. Don't mean to reduce your counterweight sales, this is more kudos to the design itself 🤔 I have mentioned before that this setup is lighter than an Equinox with the 10x5 Coiltek on your excellent shafts. I tried a centering device, and ended up breaking 3 of them (from torque and bolt pressure), and found I was detecting the rivets, or on occasion, the steel shank in my boots. 😀 Too close! I now appreciate and understand the stock attachment point. 😎 Due to its additional coverage I doubt the 11" will see much action.

Sorry to read this George, it's tough to lose a buddy, and especially a detecting buddy. My Maltese is also named Sammy (for Sammy Hagar), he doesn't go detecting with me but he is always happy to see me when I get back from a hunt and always "inspects" my gear to ensure it is clean. 😀 I have experienced this same loss not too long ago with an 8 year old Maltese. My condolences to you. The one great comfort is the memory of all the wonderful time you spent with a faithful companion. A long run indeed. RIP Sammy.

I totally agree with Jed. 👍 I initially bought the 9", was worried that I'd never see the 13" so I bought the 11". Ended up being one of the first to get the 13"! Used it once and put on the 13". Since then I've found that the 13" is great in fields and on the beach. If you're considering getting a SteveG CF shaft, that will be a lot better for balance and feel. Didn't like either of them on the stock shaft. This year the farmers knocked all the corn and bean stalks down here, and planted cover crop, so it's a breeze to use the larger coil for relic hunting. Tried it on a local beach today and it nailed a quarter that was over a foot deep. 👍 I may keep the 11"as a backup or sell it. Not sure yet.

Just had a thought: If you're getting lots of 1s and 2s that happen spontaneously when the machine has been running quiet, you might be hitting little "waves" of black sand, or you are just at the edge of the water enough to catch moving water. At that point you might want to lower sensitivity or change your beach program to the other. Look what your coil is over, change accordingly. I generally go to beach 2 when the sand is getting wet from the waves. That little ring was high on the beach which is why it stood out. The other I found on the hill was a 10/12, what I would expect for a thin small ring 🤔

Welcome to the forum! Did you find that fantastic coin with the Simplex or the D2? 👍 You are lucky indeed. The D2 was a great choice especially if you like light.

That's the beauty of the Equinox, and what it's revered for 👍. I love mine. I've found both the earring and the tiny clasp 3 feet apart! 😀They get flung off towels. From all I've read here another thing that will give you fits (if you find it not being detected) is an open gold hoop earring. The heavy hitters can explain it much better than me, but it has something to do with the shapes. I found that ring my first beach hunt, and a 10k ring on a hill behind my house, that was in my first year. Nether was marked so somebody took me under their wing and showed me how to test gold with an acid kit. Forgot about those... 🤔 This past year I've found 4 hallmarked gold rings! But I only go to the beach a few times a year. "Persistence pays off" is another tenet of metal detecting. 🤣 Sorry to always jump in man, I'm testing my knowledge of the subject, and looks like I'm doing ok by the likes. 😎 Others will be along soon. 🙂

You might have to wait on this one for the folks who most deeply understand why this happens, but yeah, it happened. They will probably step in now. 🙂 It's probably a discrimination thing on the D2, can't remember what I did to make it stand out. Might have removed discrimination completely. I always run my Equinox with the horseshoe button pushed to "on" so I hear everything. I've set up programs in the D2 to give tones for "all metal" as well. Some like that, some don't. These rings aren't that big a deal as rings go, most others will be higher. Search for articles here that list VDI or TID numbers, that will help you a bit.

Yes. It didn't have a Hallmark or "k" number, had to test it to prove it. I've since collected all 3, Rose gold and silver too. Dug it up near the exit. Odds are you'll find a few of these, lucky that the others ID a bit higher. 😀 One of my experienced detecting buddies always says, "if you're not digging foil, you're not finding gold". One day we were hunting VA Beach, and his Equinox 800 didn't find the 14k gold chain at all, but he saw it. My D2 was blind to it too, so I tweaked it later to ensure that wouldn't happen again. 🤔 Welcome to detecting! 🤷‍♂️ 😀

The short answer is, unfortunately, yes. Got a 10k gold wave ring on a beach in Savannah that was a 1. Since then I've dug a lot of round bottle seals... 😵 Sorry to break the news.

I took this one to a jeweler to see if they could clean it up, unfortunately garnets scratch. Sadly she told me she couldn't, as the way they do it they would blow the stone up. She did the best she could.

I would consider that an honor after the bruises healed... 😀

I've seen those, they look like CNC milled poly. They're interesting, but on Steve's shaft the balance is pretty good. 👍 Might be ok without one.

Ha, I've decided to go stock. 😎 I've broken 3 of them now, even a custom one. With Steve's shaft the coil is fine without a centering device. Too much bend on the ears. Might not detect my boots anymore!

Thanks, it's a little weird stuffing half the waveguide into the upper shaft, and the other half into the lower 😀 Carolina has a much better solution but I didn't have the time or resources. It is what it is... 🤷‍♂️

Thanks! 🙂 I have only SteveG to thank otherwise. 🏆 He makes a heckuva shaft for detectors. Using zip ties is a double edge sword, they hold stuff nicely and in my experience don't wear out too fast, so that's great. Notice the tie on the control unit as well. Just made it. The bad part is that going water hunting introduces fine silt into everything, so cleaning it all afterward is a nightmare. That is why I go to my local Ace and get a bag of 100 zip ties. 🤣 8" light duty black. Here a bag is $3.89.
