  1. That’s exactly why I always have my equinox 800 in my trunk with my legend. I keep the small coil on the legend for the trashy areas in parks and 10-5 on the 800 for the less trashy areas. The speaker defect is a downer, hopefully they fix her up quick so you get back to hunting.
  2. 3 wheaties today in the same area in two hours. can only read one is 1957 Soaking the other two in vinegar and baking soda over night.
  3. Front and back pictures after it’s cleaned, still not dry from the Vaseline. Well, I’ve learned a lot about large cents diameter, weight, vdi. Also learned to look for the black soil in parks, original ground, instead of the rocky, clay, compacted soil. That’s where I found this. I was there twice today and I’m definitely not the first person in these areas with the dark soft soil. Tons of previous detectors have gone through these areas. I see all the dead grass where people were digging in iron, probably get false readings or pulled out a lot of the good stuff. Then where the fill dirt is the grass is fine. I’m sure come fall and winter I’ll see more detectorist here. Thanks for all the input.
  4. It’s still drying from the peroxide. No I am mistaken it’s about 28 mm
  5. Yeh I tried both of those, even put a piece of paper over it and lightly went over the paper with a pencil, still couldn’t make out any markings.
  6. Vdi is 28-31 it’s worn to crap. I have a really crappy cheap scale that’s used for food prep it was saying it weighs 8 grams. My buddy was saying it could be a slave token or something? I figure it’s worn out so I’m soaking it in peroxide for 8 to 10 hours wash it off with water lightly brush it, let it dry Vaseline it, let it dry and see if I can see any markings. Went back to the same spot today, I see people were digging around that area because there’s a bunch of dead grass, circles, and crappy plugs all around that area. Thanks for all the input.
  7. So I was detecting at the same park I found a old silver capped bust dime. Seen a dude I know who just talks to much and didn’t want this guy following me around like a puppy dog. I got in my car unseen to him, and went to another area. Looked like original ground, finding square nails in this area. Using equinox 800 with the 10 by 5 coil using Andy’s coin program but not discriminating anything, iron bias 0, recovery speed was 8. Gain 22. Found this, was about 9-10 inches down. Looks like a large cent? Thanks for any input anyone may give.
  8. Earrings got me, I was so exciting I dragged the smaller earring across my back door window to see if it would scratch the glass. It didn’t, but the metal setting sure did.
  9. I just ordered this 10 by 5 coil. I like the 11 and 6 inch, but this will fit my needs at parks the best. I do hunt around basketball, volleyball courts, baseball fields, tot lots and pavilions, parking lots and picnic benches. But I’ll also wonder out into more open areas with some trees and fields. I’ll just need the tele knox shaft and I’ll be good to go. I’ll keep the 6 inch coil on the legend it’s a sniper set up. lots of great information on this site, I’m searching and reading more than posting. Thanks.
  10. Metal detecting is like dating, you have to go through some trash to get to the good stuff. Unfortunately that’s my experience. I’ve had some iffy targets with the legend and started to walk away and said, nah I’ll just dig it, they turned out to be 52 g sterling silver necklace and earrings. Some where junk rings, most were trash. I have a couple parks I go to regularly, I balance those out with removing the trash and with digging coins, and sometimes jewelry pops up. Nobody likes spending hours digging just trash, and I’ll dig some of the lower tones. the good stuff is where people congregate, and that’s where the trash is too. I try to enjoy just being out in nature, and lower my expectations. This is a great hobby and I got to remind myself why I’m doing it. It’s a form of meditation for me, I got to get away the stresses of everyday life.
  11. Update on the legend, it was user failure to take the coil plate cover off and clean the coil. I did that, and it’s working perfectly now, had nothing to do with the machine.
  12. Thank you so much, I think that fixed it. It was dirty and grimy. cleaned it up and I think it’s working normal now. Lesson learned.
  13. I have both, I’ve had the legend for a few months and love it. But I’m having some issues with it so I have to send her in to get get fixed. I just bought the equinox 800. the equinox vdi is better than the legend. The legend is better with emi than the Nox. I think the legend is better in water except it gets caught in the speaker case sometimes and you gotta shake it out than it’s okay, but has better shaft than the nox in my opinion. legend pro pack is under $800 that gives you the headphones and 6 inch coil. the Nox really smacks the coins, the legend is good too. I bought the legend because I didn’t want to spend over $800 and it’s worth every penny, and they’re always updating their software. I’ve only had the Nox for two days but they both have strong and weak points I guess it depends on what you’re hunting and where and how much $$$$ are you willing to spend. I knew I’d eventually have both. They both great, very easy to customize and operate to your needs.
  14. I’m waiting for a reply back after filling out a submission form to return my Legend. It’s messed up, jumpy, missing targets, locking up, vdi is way off, something is definitely wrong. Just bought it a couple months ago so it’s still falls under the two year warranty. I really love the legend I had to get the pro pack with the 6 inch coil. I hunt trashy parks in NC. Clay is hard, filled with iron, lots of trash is where the jewelry and coins are. I put my recovery speed up to 10 and gain way up too. saying that, the only other machine I have while I wait to send my legend in is a vanquish 540. It’s what I started with, but after using the legend I can’t separate targets with the 540. so I did what any normal detectorist would do I bought a equinox 800 and had the 6 inch coil delivered separately. equinox is lighter than the legend but not to kind with emi. I give that to the legend. equinox vdi is better than the legend and smacks the coins better. I think the legends build is a bit better and did upload the latest 1.09 hoping it would fix the issues I was having, to no avail. I’ve only had the 800 for two days but I really like it, I know it has some weak and strong points but so does every machine. Once the legend gets fixed these are two great machines. Just ordered the coil supporter for the equinox I’ve heard these can break. And I’ll be getting a carbon fiber shaft soon as well. I will get the 5-9.5 coil, that bridges the gap between the 6-11 inch coil very well.
  15. Found this at a park last month, it’s worn to crap. Looks like a capped bust dime between 1809-1837
  16. I’ve been hunting with my legend for months and today the sound dropped, I can barely hear it. But it’s like a software problem too. Even with the gain at 30 recovery at 10 it’s not picking up stuff and the vdi numbers are staying up way to long even when I hit other targets, like it locks up the previous targets? The depth of targets is way out of whack. It’s messed up, I’ve reset it a couple times on and off. Still nothing. Only thing I’m thinking that could help is update to 1.09, I’ve been running it with 1.07 only because my laptop computer broke. I’ll have my friend help me out with the update. If that don’t work I’ll have to send her in. I wonder what the return time is. I might have to buy another one to get me bye if it’s more than two weeks or months.
