The 6" concentric coil floats to the top to easy. It works ok when I'm sweeping but when I stop and lean the detector against me the coil floats to the top. Turning sensitivity down does help some in the water. Also Isat works with the sensitivity max. Going to be use my Gold Kruzer now. I liked the Gmx a lot on land but not lake hunting. Probably perfect for streams.

My ground is mild. I haven't used Coin Fast mode but it makes sense for jewelry hunting. Targets won't be real deep. I'll have to bury some test targets to help learn. In northern Michigan I don't have a lot of areas to hunt. I've switched to water hunting. I want to try the Orx for jewelry hunting on land though. I have the 9" hf coil. Does it matter what frequency is used? A high frequency would get a better hit on gold wouldn't it.

Good video. Might just keep my XP Orx.

Gmx I Could Not Ground Balance In The Water
Rick N. MI replied to Rick N. MI's topic in White's Metal Detectors
Not getting in the water this week. It's to cold. When I do I'll see what the ground balance number is with the Gmx in the water. On land it is 30. In the water the Gold Kruzer mineral is 1 bar out of 5. -

I'm going to ground in the water then like I've always done. Make complete sense to ground balance in the water. It could be completely different in the water than on land. Even fresh water like you said. -

Thank you. I've always tried to gb in the water. I'll do it on land from now on. Yesterday was 65 and sunny. Really nice out and for the next 7 days it's going to be 40 to low 50's and snow projected. -

I know someone who found a lot of the Jesuit rings up in the area of the colonial Fort Michilimackinac at the Mackinaw bridge.. I found a colonial British 10th Regiment of the Foot button up there. Didn't find a ring. The Indians tricked the fort playing a game and a ball went into the fort and they opened the fort to let the Indians get the ball and the Indians attacked. It was well planned attack on forts all over Michigan. -

I went to detect one and it was taped off. Not allowed to go in right now unfortunately. -
Gmx I Could Not Ground Balance In The Water
Rick N. MI replied to Rick N. MI's topic in White's Metal Detectors
Right now I am in an inland lake. It will be good the water. A 0.89 gram 10k gold ring airs tests at 9" with sensitivity 7-10 using the 6.5" concentric coil. I have the 6x10 coil coming. Just have to be careful to keep the coil parallel to the bottom. The Gold Kruzer in deep mode needs sensitivity about 70. The Gold Kruzer in deep mode hits harder on deep targets than the Gmx. The Gmx has a very soft hit on deep targets. I'll give it a good go tomorrow. -
Gmx I Could Not Ground Balance In The Water

I will try lowering sensitivity tomorrow in the water. No, don't dial back the Gmx/24k White's. I take that back, White's doesn't need to fix a thing. There is a big difference in mild ground. I like to have the potential there. I've never been in bad ground. I have it under control now lol. -
Gmx I Could Not Ground Balance In The Water
Rick N. MI replied to Rick N. MI's topic in White's Metal Detectors
Phrunt, I'll let you know tomorrow how it goes. The water's cold right now. I'll go to waist deep and test it. I'll see if it makes a sound as the coil enters the water each time or if it's only the first time in and after that no sound. There is a sound when the coil is underwater and is lifted. I was getting good hits in the water and don't think sensitivity needs to be turned down as the ground is mild and it ran smooth with the coil going along the sand. -

Ok, I'm calmed down now lol. I'll hit the water again tomorrow now that I know what's going on. Thanks everybody... -
Gmx I Could Not Ground Balance In The Water
Rick N. MI replied to Rick N. MI's topic in White's Metal Detectors
Yes the Gmx get a sound from air to water and when you lift the coil in the water. I'm surprised it so sensitive to the water. If its level in the water the Gmx runs very quiet. Lift it a little and you get a sound but you recognize what that sound is so it's just a little irritating. I don't know how well I will like that. Can someone else try this. I don't think there is any way to quiet that. I don't know if isat would affect that. I keep it at 0. Being a water detector White's should have fixed this. The Gold Kruzer doesn't do it. -
Gmx I Could Not Ground Balance In The Water
Rick N. MI replied to Rick N. MI's topic in White's Metal Detectors
I went back to the lake and figured out what's going on. It is working ok. Just keep the coil parallel to the bottom and it works fine. Raise the coil and there is the sound not like a target hit. I think as you raise and lower coil into the water you are get a sound from the water like get from your hand moved to the coil. I'll try lowering sensitivity too. -

I'm going to try it again in the water tomorrow. I'll ground balance on land and lock it and see it that works. Also going to try the 6x10dd coil when I get it. -

Gold Kruzer mineralization in the water 1 out 5 bars. On land 0-1 bars. -
Gmx I Could Not Ground Balance In The Water
Rick N. MI replied to Rick N. MI's topic in White's Metal Detectors
I'll try that ground balancing on land first and lock it. It it didn't make any ground balance sound as the coil went to the sand. It was like a negative ground balance that as you lifted the coil off the sand there was a sound. Lifting the coil about 6" gets a quick sound. Showing the ground balance was very negative. Lowering it no sound. As the coil moved in the water the id was a constant 83-90. Like it was stuck there. I would have to assume in the water it is very mild ground but the concentric coil should have been perfect for it. -
Gmx I Could Not Ground Balance In The Water

Jack Pine (Tom) and I have hunted all the lakes where we live. Was thinking about it and none of our detector have been able to ground balance in the water. I don't remember if the lakes by Tom could ground balance. I took the Gold Kruzer in the same lake today. I could not get a ground balance beep. It did show 90 for the ground balance and was able to hunt with it using the 9.5x5 dd coil. The Gmx with the 6" concentric was not useable in the water. -
Locked or unlocked no ground balance. I would get a sound every time I lifted the coil. It had a constant id of 83 to 90 as I swept the coil. I was using the 6" concentric coil. In tone mode it beeped constantly as I swept. It works fine on land. I have the 6x10 coil ordered so hopefully it works. I'm surprised it didn't work in the water. On land the ground is all mild so I assumed in the water was mild. I did have sensitivity at 10. I haven't had a problem with other detectors there even with concentric coils.

Deeptech Vista X User Review Video
Rick N. MI replied to Keith Southern's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
I agree Tom. The X has my interest too. I wonder if my cable extension for the Deeptech Gold would work on the X. Looks like it could go deep on gold rings. -
The Gmx will hit a bottle cap nice. So you would be digging bottle caps. Bottle caps are tough for most detectors.

I don't have the Nox anymore. Wish I still had it. It's very sensitive to small gold but not as sensitive as the gold detectors. Between the Gold Kruzer and Gmx, the Gmx is more sensitive on a 10k white gold earring. Don't know why when one is 61khz and the other 48khz but that the way it is for me. As a target gets deep the Gmx has a very soft signal which is ok because there is no noise or crackle. An air test on a 0.89 gram ring at 9.5", the Gmx w/ 6" concentric hits. The Gold Kruzer air test about a 1/2" less. I hope the 6x10 dd works well on the Gmx. Hunting on a beach with the Gmx/Gold Kruzer will drive you crazy after awhile digging the tiniest targets. I haven't had to much tiny stuff in the water like on the beach. Micro gold hunting you need to be where there are a lot of people to make it worth while. My beaches are not worth hunting for micro jewelry. I hope to find some in the water though. I guess I'm the odd one using a gold detector hunting in the water but I'm a gold hunter lol. It would be good to have 2 waterproof detectors like the Nox and a Gold detector to get the rest. I don't know how a Nox w/ 11" coil and Gmx w/ 6x10 coil would compare on a gold ring in the water. I would guess the Nox would go a couple inches deeper. If they had the same size coils probably about the same depth. I also noticed on the Gmx I can turn the disc up and still get a hit on the white gold earring about an 1/8" or less from it.

I noticed today emi was not affecting the GMX w/ 6" concentric coil at all. The Gold Kruzer and XP Orx were going crazy. I had to turn the sensitivity way down on the Gold Kruzer. Different frequency helped the Orx. The GMX sensitivity was max at 10 with no noise. Wish it weighed 2 lbs but it is the way it is. Becoming my favorite water hunter. Taking it in the water tomorrow. 6x10 coil is on the way.

It looks like it would go ok in the water. Just thinking about getting one for more coverage.
