  1. Which detector and coil were you using? And what settings.
  2. Nice finds. LC looks old. I've only found 1 LC and haven't found a skeleton key.
  3. Kac, the Gold Kruzer is great for coins, relics and micro jewelry. I'm surprised it's not advertised for that too. It does get a hit on my 10" test dime which is not silver. I don't know how well it will do on silver. My XP Orx hit's better but that's with a 9" hf coil and the Gold Kruzer was with the 9.5x5 dd coil. Yes it would be really nice if it had the MK coils. I would like the 8" or 9" round concentric coil. It has 3 tones, Deep mode, Micro mode and all metal. Deep mode is the best on micro jewelry and is the deepest mode. I was given a tip when in a mode that's noisy like Deep mode. Turn the headphone volume down so you don't notice the noise so much and you can still here all the targets. I run deep mode sensitivity 92 and turn it down when needed.
  4. That's what I was saying before. It wouldn't ground balance in the water. All the detectors I've had in the water will not ground balance. On the Gold Kruzer it is 1 bar so I don't know why they won't ground balance. At first I thought the Gmx was a negative ground balance but then I thought it was reacting to the water. Take your 24k into a lake and try it. And why would isat help that?
  5. The Gmx isn't hard to get the coil on the bottom and sweeping the coil as you detector. It swings so easy in the water you don't hardly feel it. It was when I would stop that coil wanted to float to the top. I was using the 6" concentric coil. And the sound when the coil would lift in the water. Turning sensitivity down made the sound quieter. With max sensitivity, isat turned up would remove the sound with a loss in depth. The Gmx is different when you run it in a lake. I haven't nugget hunted before but the 24k/Gmx is more sensitive to tiny gold than the Gold Kruzer that I can see. The Gmx runs quiet. The Gold Kruzer is noisy in deep mode. It helps turning the volume down on the headphones. The Gmx is so sensitive that it reacts to the water when the coil is lifted. Turning sensitivity down helps. Increasing isat helps.
  6. I will try the 6x10 in the water but it probably floats to much too. I lean the detector on me when I'm retrieving a target. With the Gmx I have to get the coil in the hole so it doesn't float up. White's needs a coil like this for the Gmx. A 6x10 open like this.
  7. The 6" concentric coil floats to the top to easy. It works ok when I'm sweeping but when I stop and lean the detector against me the coil floats to the top. Turning sensitivity down does help some in the water. Also Isat works with the sensitivity max. Going to be use my Gold Kruzer now. I liked the Gmx a lot on land but not lake hunting. Probably perfect for streams.
  8. My ground is mild. I haven't used Coin Fast mode but it makes sense for jewelry hunting. Targets won't be real deep. I'll have to bury some test targets to help learn. In northern Michigan I don't have a lot of areas to hunt. I've switched to water hunting. I want to try the Orx for jewelry hunting on land though. I have the 9" hf coil. Does it matter what frequency is used? A high frequency would get a better hit on gold wouldn't it.
  9. Not getting in the water this week. It's to cold. When I do I'll see what the ground balance number is with the Gmx in the water. On land it is 30. In the water the Gold Kruzer mineral is 1 bar out of 5.
  10. I'm going to ground in the water then like I've always done. Make complete sense to ground balance in the water. It could be completely different in the water than on land. Even fresh water like you said.
  11. Thank you. I've always tried to gb in the water. I'll do it on land from now on. Yesterday was 65 and sunny. Really nice out and for the next 7 days it's going to be 40 to low 50's and snow projected.
  12. I know someone who found a lot of the Jesuit rings up in the area of the colonial Fort Michilimackinac at the Mackinaw bridge.. I found a colonial British 10th Regiment of the Foot button up there. Didn't find a ring. The Indians tricked the fort playing a game and a ball went into the fort and they opened the fort to let the Indians get the ball and the Indians attacked. It was well planned attack on forts all over Michigan.
  13. I went to detect one and it was taped off. Not allowed to go in right now unfortunately.
  14. Right now I am in an inland lake. It will be good the water. A 0.89 gram 10k gold ring airs tests at 9" with sensitivity 7-10 using the 6.5" concentric coil. I have the 6x10 coil coming. Just have to be careful to keep the coil parallel to the bottom. The Gold Kruzer in deep mode needs sensitivity about 70. The Gold Kruzer in deep mode hits harder on deep targets than the Gmx. The Gmx has a very soft hit on deep targets. I'll give it a good go tomorrow.
  15. I will try lowering sensitivity tomorrow in the water. No, don't dial back the Gmx/24k White's. I take that back, White's doesn't need to fix a thing. There is a big difference in mild ground. I like to have the potential there. I've never been in bad ground. I have it under control now lol.
  16. Phrunt, I'll let you know tomorrow how it goes. The water's cold right now. I'll go to waist deep and test it. I'll see if it makes a sound as the coil enters the water each time or if it's only the first time in and after that no sound. There is a sound when the coil is underwater and is lifted. I was getting good hits in the water and don't think sensitivity needs to be turned down as the ground is mild and it ran smooth with the coil going along the sand.
  17. Ok, I'm calmed down now lol. I'll hit the water again tomorrow now that I know what's going on. Thanks everybody...
  18. Yes the Gmx get a sound from air to water and when you lift the coil in the water. I'm surprised it so sensitive to the water. If its level in the water the Gmx runs very quiet. Lift it a little and you get a sound but you recognize what that sound is so it's just a little irritating. I don't know how well I will like that. Can someone else try this. I don't think there is any way to quiet that. I don't know if isat would affect that. I keep it at 0. Being a water detector White's should have fixed this. The Gold Kruzer doesn't do it.
  19. I went back to the lake and figured out what's going on. It is working ok. Just keep the coil parallel to the bottom and it works fine. Raise the coil and there is the sound not like a target hit. I think as you raise and lower coil into the water you are get a sound from the water like get from your hand moved to the coil. I'll try lowering sensitivity too.
  20. I'm going to try it again in the water tomorrow. I'll ground balance on land and lock it and see it that works. Also going to try the 6x10dd coil when I get it.
  21. Gold Kruzer mineralization in the water 1 out 5 bars. On land 0-1 bars.
  22. I'll try that ground balancing on land first and lock it. It it didn't make any ground balance sound as the coil went to the sand. It was like a negative ground balance that as you lifted the coil off the sand there was a sound. Lifting the coil about 6" gets a quick sound. Showing the ground balance was very negative. Lowering it no sound. As the coil moved in the water the id was a constant 83-90. Like it was stuck there. I would have to assume in the water it is very mild ground but the concentric coil should have been perfect for it.
  23. Jack Pine (Tom) and I have hunted all the lakes where we live. Was thinking about it and none of our detector have been able to ground balance in the water. I don't remember if the lakes by Tom could ground balance. I took the Gold Kruzer in the same lake today. I could not get a ground balance beep. It did show 90 for the ground balance and was able to hunt with it using the 9.5x5 dd coil. The Gmx with the 6" concentric was not useable in the water.
