  1. Locked or unlocked no ground balance. I would get a sound every time I lifted the coil. It had a constant id of 83 to 90 as I swept the coil. I was using the 6" concentric coil. In tone mode it beeped constantly as I swept. It works fine on land. I have the 6x10 coil ordered so hopefully it works. I'm surprised it didn't work in the water. On land the ground is all mild so I assumed in the water was mild. I did have sensitivity at 10. I haven't had a problem with other detectors there even with concentric coils.
  2. I agree Tom. The X has my interest too. I wonder if my cable extension for the Deeptech Gold would work on the X. Looks like it could go deep on gold rings.
  3. The Gmx will hit a bottle cap nice. So you would be digging bottle caps. Bottle caps are tough for most detectors.
  4. I don't have the Nox anymore. Wish I still had it. It's very sensitive to small gold but not as sensitive as the gold detectors. Between the Gold Kruzer and Gmx, the Gmx is more sensitive on a 10k white gold earring. Don't know why when one is 61khz and the other 48khz but that the way it is for me. As a target gets deep the Gmx has a very soft signal which is ok because there is no noise or crackle. An air test on a 0.89 gram ring at 9.5", the Gmx w/ 6" concentric hits. The Gold Kruzer air test about a 1/2" less. I hope the 6x10 dd works well on the Gmx. Hunting on a beach with the Gmx/Gold Kruzer will drive you crazy after awhile digging the tiniest targets. I haven't had to much tiny stuff in the water like on the beach. Micro gold hunting you need to be where there are a lot of people to make it worth while. My beaches are not worth hunting for micro jewelry. I hope to find some in the water though. I guess I'm the odd one using a gold detector hunting in the water but I'm a gold hunter lol. It would be good to have 2 waterproof detectors like the Nox and a Gold detector to get the rest. I don't know how a Nox w/ 11" coil and Gmx w/ 6x10 coil would compare on a gold ring in the water. I would guess the Nox would go a couple inches deeper. If they had the same size coils probably about the same depth. I also noticed on the Gmx I can turn the disc up and still get a hit on the white gold earring about an 1/8" or less from it.
  5. I noticed today emi was not affecting the GMX w/ 6" concentric coil at all. The Gold Kruzer and XP Orx were going crazy. I had to turn the sensitivity way down on the Gold Kruzer. Different frequency helped the Orx. The GMX sensitivity was max at 10 with no noise. Wish it weighed 2 lbs but it is the way it is. Becoming my favorite water hunter. Taking it in the water tomorrow. 6x10 coil is on the way.
  6. The coil is small enough should be ok submerged. I'll be getting that coil.
  7. It looks like it would go ok in the water. Just thinking about getting one for more coverage.
  8. How well does the 6x10 coil float in the water? Like a cork? I'm using the GMX lake hunting and want the 6x10 coil for coverage but if it floats to much I won't get it.
  9. Why disc to -9 to +18. Nickel hits 12-13. So you will not here the nickel. Why not leave 12-13 open.
  10. They are the same. One waterproof the other not.
  11. Nice hunt. In northern Michigan still waiting for it to get a little warmer. I like the square nails.
  12. My ground is mild so I get the depth but no gold nuggets so I hunt for jewelry. dd coils are better than concentrics in high mineral ground. I always thought that. So why did the 24k/GMX come with a concentric coil? It's a nice coil for me. So that's why everybody wants the 4x6 dd coil. I get it now :).
  13. So by these tests all I need is the 6" concentric coil. No need to get the 6x10 coil for more depth on jewelry. Now all I need is an 8" or 9" round concentric coil would be perfect to get deeper on gold rings.
  14. Steve, Thanks for adding the the photo. And thanks for taking the 4x6 coil. Hope it's good for you. Did help make the price better for the GMX. Now I'm selling my xp orx :).
  15. I like the GMX/24k. I got the White's GMX which is a waterproof 24k for lake hunting for jewelry. I've only tested it outside so far using the 6" concentric coil which is 6.5". This detector is completely silent even with sensitivity max. No chatter at all. The iron disc is completely adjustable 1 point at time. At 19 it disc's out a nail one way and gets a hit the other way. I wanted the disc set as low as I could. The vco mode is the deepest and most sensitive mode. Even with disc at 19 I can get a hit on the white gold earring laying on the ground. It does have to be close, approx. 1/4" or less to the coil, but it hits it both ways. I buried a 0.89 gram 10k gold ring at 9" and it got a nice hit all around. Also hits my 10" test dime. I sold the 4x6 coil. The 6.5 concentric was all I wanted. Might get the 6x10 sometime. It is in the XP Sport housing. Even though it weights 4 lbs it feels ok with the small coil. I wish White's had spent some time designing it light weight but it is still comfortable enough to use. I like the display. I like the balance of GMX better than the Gold Kruzer. I hip mount the Gold Kruzer in the water because the balance of it hurts my forearm in a short time. Could probably get used to it though. I like the display on the GMX. At the top there is a bar that shows where the target is from iron thru silver range which is convenient. It is going to be a great lake hunter. Now it's making me think about getting another MX Sport. White's has nice products.
  16. Nice find. Good you could get out. It's snowing right now in northern Michigan.
  17. I leave my windows down and keys in the ignition. Wallet in my glovebox. I live in northern Michigan and don't worry about it. Maybe I should protect it more.
  18. Deep mode with 0 disc makes it very sensitive and deeper to tiny gold as with tests on an earring I would like to see if it's possible for an update adding notching. This is the first time I ever wanted notching. I would like to run the Gold Kruzer at 0 disc in deep mode and notch out what I don't want. Notching would be my disc if It had that feature. Would probably be good for nugget hunters also because 0 disc in deep mode makes it very sensitive and deeper. This would be a great addition. So for me notching would be perfect for jewelry hunting and I thing it would be good for nugget hunting also. The Gold Kruzer is a great water hunter for jewelry including micro jewelry. Maybe Nokta could add this.
  19. Nice finds. Good getting out. I could use some of that bourbon right now :).
  20. If the Vanquish was waterproof I would get one just to have the smaller coil.
  21. Good post Steve, I hunted one summer with the Gold Kruzer using micro mode. I only found 1 gold earring with a small thing hanging from in the water at small beach. I don't know if they are diamonds on it but they are small. Found other junk earrings. Lol, I doubt those earrings with big diamonds are in northern Michigan. I will try micro gold hunting this spring on big beach and in the water at Lake Michigan. Like you said, I'll find out quick if it's a waist of time, then I'll switch to something that goes deeper on gold rings. Thanks...Rick
  22. In those last tests I was using the 9.5x5 dd coil. The 7.5x4 coil I would hear that white gold earring with a slow sweep. So that makes the Gold Kruzer with the 7.5x4 coil a true micro gold hunter. It passes the test when using 0 disc in deep mode.
