800 Won't Boot

Recommended Posts

After the charge it seems to be normal.  I hope it stays that way.

I've run out of power before.  It starts blinking and you know you have just a short time before you are done.  This didn't happen this time so ... one detecting day at a time ... which is good advice anyway.

Here is what I found today by going to a park and finding the cars and then picking up where I left off yesterday.  I got the broken silver chain that is about 5.5 grams.

Possible you need a battery replacement.

I had the issue that mn90403 described happen just once a couple years ago on my 800. Replaced the battery, and it never happened again. Could be coincidence, but if it happens again, it’s an easy remedy to try. If your battery is 3 or more years old, it probably wouldn’t hurt either way.

I have a pair of headphones that won't charge.  I bet if I replace the batteries they would work.  I think Simon has posted links for battery replacement.

Did you use a video for the battery job?

I didn’t at the time, but the battery actually came with decent written instructions, if I remember right.

This recent thread my El Nino77 shares an excellent step-by-step video:

https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/25212-how-to-change-over-a-minelab-equinox-800-metal-detector-battery/

It’s a very easy process, but it’s extremely important to position your thumb over the battery compartment to avoid damaging the wire harness (see my post in that thread). It’s done that way in the video, but the guy doing the replacement doesn’t specifically point it out.

I would get it to shutdown and re-flash the software update to it. Sounds to me like it is possibly a bit confused. It wouldn't hurt to try this and give it a fresh stack of code to chew on. May as well do it while has strong battery juice too. What will it hurt to take this small amount of prevention..
