Complete Carbon-fiber Shaft System For The Equinox...

I use to shoot competition 3D Archery and have several carbon fiber target stabilizers and probably a pound in weights I've gathered over the years.  The part of interest would just be the end cap with thread bolt that the weights screw onto as that is all that it is.  You can even go buy longer bolts to add more weight to. You've got me wondering now how I could make this work with the stock Equinox rod and add some of my weights to the back and make it perfect balance. Target archery stabilizers are just hollow carbon rods with end caps on them.

The weights they make specifically for them are very expensive for some reason. I've never figured that out.  Most come in 1 ounce stacks...some companies offer them in half ounce stacks though.   I like that idea...and having the ability to add or subtract weights by just screwing them on or off a bolt is a plus.  You could balance it for the stock coil or 15 inch coil very easily.

While you guys figure out counter balances, I was happy and pleased with getting ahold of Steveg and ordered 2 of his Carbon Fiber Lower Rod Ends for the NOX 800. One for the 15" x 12" coil & one for the 11" coil , I figured the 6" coil would be fine on stock lower rod end. Steveg had both coming to me same day we talked, and they will arrive here in Alaska by end of week. Nice job Steveg !!!!   Not set up for Nevada / Arizona hunts yet, BUT the treasure coast is just a plane flight away !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy Hunting

Daniel TN -- what you are describing is exactly the "concept" I'm working on, though "implementation" will be a bit different.  In my mind at this point, short lengths of carbon-fiber tube, that thread onto the back end of the upper shaft is essentially the exact concept I'm working with, BUT with different weighting requirements to be accomplished by different-length tubes (with different amounts of weight therein) being the way I currently plan to do it.  But yes, I plan to offer several different weights (length of tubes) for the different coils, etc.

Dig It -- THANKS for the kind words!  I appreciate your business, and look forward to confirmation that you've received the rods, and are pleased with them!  ?

Maybe something that you could use a series of washers made of lead or SS for weight.  What i liked about the bow weight was it put it well behind the cuff for better weight adjustment based on your comfort.   Makes a big difference in balance.

Dew --

That's pretty much what I'm thinking -- I'm planning to use lead shot (bird shot -- like #8) for the weighting, filling the inside of the tubes with the proper amount of shot to achieve the necessary weight (again, different-weight tubes will be available).  And yes, with the tubes threading into the back end of the shaft, i.e. extending back beyond the handle and arm cuff, it makes it easier to achieve proper balance (the farther the weight is from the "fulcrum" of the lever, the less the amount of weight that is needed to achieve balance).

When I was doing the testing, it was AMAZING what it felt like to swing a perfectly balanced Equinox!  It basically "floats" in your hand!

Steve....... ive had a counterweight from the get go on mine.   I was on the beach helping a lady with hers and  hers was so light (id forgotten how light)....... so i took mine off..... well for one hunt, then realized like you did a balanced machine can be worth having  even if it weighs a bit more.  Good luck on the project.

dew -- interesting, and it confirms what I experienced...

Curious -- do you know how much weight you are using?  I'll be interested to see, once I start calculating necessary weights, where my findings fall, with respect to what you are using...

Mine is extended 8" out the back .... weight about 18 ounces.   Obviously that could be decreased with length.  It gives mine balance yet with an extended lower shaft yet the weight is still somewhat on the coil end for use in the water.   Its one of those things you can remove quickly since mine is attached with a plunger lock.  You may find the plunger cheaper to do than threads since all it does is keep it attached.   The length of my swing from coil to handle/box is exactly the same as my Xcal for long sweeps.

Just a quick shout out to Steveg, received my Carbon Fiber Lower Rods !! Everything Good except the weather of course !!  But the shafts look & feel great on my Nox 800 coils. Thanks for walking me through the buying procedure, you made it simple even for me !! Haha !!!!!!! And thanks for getting them shipped so quickly, if the Postal Service hadn't held the package in Anchorage for 4 days, they would have made it to me before the winter freeze set in. Soooo Thanks Again !!!!!!!
