  1. Steve, Rick's first link is the forum I was referring to. Mike
  2. There are still many of Reg's posts on the TDI series on Miner John's forum. They are also [pretty old now two to three years ago but still relevant. If your not familiar with Miner John's forum and if it's allowed i can post a link to it. Mike
  3. Can't sign up to the forum using the supplied link. Always get an error message about needing to sign up for a paid subscription. However no where to do that. Also can't send a problem message to the forum because it says "working" forever when the send button is pressed. So the White's forum appears to be the forum for no one. Mike
  4. I'm afraid I'm not going to be much help, but I can give you some detail on the mods you're talking about. Reg designed these mods for the original and pro TDI's I don't know if he went any further with the SL. I've had two mods installed in my TDI machines, one was to eliminate the threshold warble, drove me crazy in both TDI's and in my GP3500. I now can run either TDI wide open in gain and have a totally smooth threshold. The other mod was to increase sensitivity to small gold I believe it has helped in that regard but have no proof. At the time (two to three years ago) Reg was living in Colorado Springs, he was working with a fellow in Pueblo that was qualified to do the changes and was doing them. I had him do the changes to my machines. It is possible that I still might have his email address. I will have to look for it and it may take some time if I can still find it. To the best of my knowledge Reg never did make the internals of the mods public, however he frequented some of the more technical forums than I did so maybe he did turn them loose. You can PM me if you want me to look for the email address. It will take me a while though as I have changed email services and ISP's since that time and I'm right in the middle of fine tuning a couple of rifles and also doing taxes. Mike
  5. Hi Chuck, I'm with you on this issue of hard copy and digital magazines or books. I have 3 digital magazine subscriptions and hardly ever find the time to read any of them. I have to have the time (or make the time) to read just the stuff I'm interested in, where-as my printed copies sit on the coffee table and if I have 5 or 10 minutes I can pick it up read an article or two and put it back down. Eventually I can end up reading cover to cover. The digitals just sit on my hard drive and take up space and I very rarely find the time to read one cover to cover. Kind of a shame but I do understand the economics of it. Mike
  6. The machines in the two videos were TDI-SL's. It should be noted that all TDI models will work this same way, they can all be set to ignore iron and other high conductors. Reg Snif has done numerous posts on several forums about this feature and how to effectively produce the results you want. To find his posts you will have to look a few years back as he has not posted in the last couple of years do to health problems. I do miss his posts. Mike
  7. I had to watch it because of your comments above. Made it a whole 1:15 and let it go. Mike
  8. If your going to look at Craig's list or Ebay be very careful of deals that are "too good to be true" because they are. Also be very careful about buying any Minelab that you can't get your hands on before purchase so that you can have a dealer verify that it's a real Minelab. Mike
  9. Chuck, I think you may have a wiring problem in that coil. Contact Whites and I would be very reluctant to attach that coil to any machine until it has been checked out by someone who knows for sure it is properly wired. Frying sounds coming out of electronics is NEVER good news. Mike
  10. Here is a link to pretty much the same topic. Called "Metal Detecting with a Knee Replacement"
  11. Thanks Outback. That helps allot!, I'm short myself now about 5' 5 1/2". The information you provided solves one of the issues about knee replacement that had me concerned. I'll need to have both knees replaced so once complete I won't have an original to place near the coil. Thanks Mike
  12. Outback a question for you. When you are bending to find the nugget which knee is closest to the coil? I am in a situation where I will need to have both knees replaced (if I have it done at all). If you have your good knee closest to the coil, how about trying your new knee there as an experiment and let me know if you experience any issues. Thanks, Mike
  13. I'm pretty much in the same boat and have held off for a couple of reasons. First off knee replacement is an iffy proposition they can be heaven sent or hell bent or anywhere in between. My brother (younger) had both knees replaced (bad knees run in the family) and has had great success, a friend has had one replaced (about 6 months ago) and has had nothing highly painful difficulty with it. He's an older person, 78 I think, has gone to therapy regularly as directed by his Dr and done everything else he was told to do and yet he moves around like he's 178. I probably should have had the replacements done years ago but I just can't get myself to do it because of possibly not being able to prospect and not being able to walk well afterword. Still on the fence. Mike
  14. Good pose on the "bush" picture..Good idea. Mike
  15. Jen that is a tarantula, basically harmless bite like a bee sting. Wife plays with them all the time, lets them climb up her arms etc. Just one of the many fun creatures you find in the desert. Don't like cat claws much myself. Mike
  16. I have a formula I use with engineers (mechanical, electrical and programmers). When they give me a commitment date, for example 2 weeks, I will raise that time to the next level of time and then double the number, thus 2 weeks becomes 4 months. In my numerous years of dealing with engineering folks in a number of capacities my formula has been correct much more often than it has been wrong. Much to the chagrin of my engineering co-workers. I look at the communications of most all the tech companies the same way. If I'm hot for some new world beater product - reality sets in and I turn up my patience and am thrilled when it does finally does arrive especially if more than half of the promised features actually work. Mike
  17. Highly recommend the MJ coils. Have a pair of folded 8's. Between the coils and the Reg mods, the detectors run beautifully and do find gold. Mike
  18. Both, after thinking about it most often with someone. My wife when she feels like it and /or several friends. Don't mind going alone and have done it many times, then only have a occasional rattlesnake for company. Mike
  19. I know the answer to your question. Found it in about two minutes. what I would like to know is how to get on a mailing list to have them emailed to me or to get some kind of notification that a new issue is out and where to get it. Thanks, Mike
