  1. I am planning on doing just that. By the way, the anderson shaft plastic spring clip, is a double spring clip. I guess Pete just decided not to drill the second hole?
  2. The problem isn't the coil flipping up or down, it's the upper shaft twisting left and right and the lower rod not moving. I've never had stabilizers on my detectors. Doesn't seem that stabilizers would help keep the upper rod from twisting or would it?
  3. So everyone knows, I'm not trying to be unfair to Andersons. Since Andersons doesn't sell out their door and only through distributers, I'm sending the shafts back to the seller and I will call Andersons and tell them about my experience. Like I said before, trying to get a two or three piece shaft to act like a single rod, I maybe asking too much. If that's the case, I'll keep what came with the detector. If and when there is a problem with the shaft, I'll deal with it then.
  4. Thanks for all the feedback. I really appreciate the input. I'm wondering if all the carbon fiber shafts have the same problem, the top shaft twisting a bit around the lower shaft? Is there a two piece carbon fiber shaft that the top and bottom work in unison? Or does it have to be just one long shaft to avoid any twisting? Is there some modification needed to make the two or three piece shaft totally rigid? Or maybe I'm just being too picky?? Thanks again for all the feedback.
  5. be sure to check when you have the shaft all together, lay the coil flat on the floor and put your hand on the handle and twisted left and right. My Anderson shaft does not lift the coil off the ground. The whole upper shaft twists. Just to be clear, the twist is about one half inch in either direction.
  6. A friend of mine got the Anderson shaft for his Nox, put it together, and when he has the coil on the ground and turns his wrist left and right, while holding the handle, the upper rod twist with his hand movements while the coil stays flat on the ground. Is this normal? Or, should the coil be lifted a bit depending on which way his wrist is turning? I hope I'm explaining this well enough to be understood. Thanks for any info you may have.
  7. Curious to know if any of you that hunt the beach and surf have the same feeling that Gravedigger Max of Virginia Beach has? He had a Nox, seemed to like it, then it was gone? He has spoken of two reasons for getting rid of the Nox. 1) He felt it was finding too many small items, trash mostly I think. But isn't that what this machine does, find small items? And 2) this is the one I'm asking all you beach Nox hunters to chime in on...Max feels the Nox isn't a strong enough unit to hunt in the surf. The video he mentions this in, is one where he is using his ExCal with waves hitting him at about knee level or a bit higher. He feels the Nox wouldn't hold up under this type of hunting. What say you? By the way, he isn't talking about the unit maybe having water leakage, but the strength of the unit to withstand the surf environment. Thanks for any and all input.
  8. This is kind of a know-nothing post, but after finding so many pennies on the beach on my last four beach hunts, I thought I would throw the question out there. On the beach I mostly hunt there are vendors selling their wares. Boogie boards, fruit, ice cream, water and so on. All the charges are increments of 25 cents. Dollar, two dollar, five dollar, 50 cents and so on. Nothing ends in an odd amount leaving you or the vendor having to use pennies. So why all the pennies? In my last four beach hunts I dug up about 120 pennies and that's not counting the ones I passed on! So, I ask you, why so many pennies?
  9. Gold, Gold, Gold...that's the ticket!!! Congrats!
  10. I did post this on another forum, but, different people, different responses. I have a question concerning an experience I had today at the beach. I was detecting when I came upon a friend of mine who was trying to help a woman find a pendant she had just dropped into the sand. I went over to see if I could help because my friend couldn't find the item. The pendant is very small. Think of a battery for a hearing aid only thinner. My friend Richard finally gave up so I decided to give it a try. Before I got there I was hunting in beach 1 with GB 0, RS 5, IB 3, five tones and nothing rejected. I switched over to beach 2 with all attributes the same and started hunting for the errant pendant but couldn't find it. The area was very small, about five feet by three feet. The woman was absolutely positive she had just dropped the pendant at that spot. Richard and I covered that small area very well. Finally, when I couldn't find the pendant, the woman said thank you for looking and started to walk away. Me, thinking she probably dropped it somewhere else, reset my Nox to the previous beach 1 set up. I put the coil to the sand, made one sweep and got at 2-3 hit. I turned 90 and it remained. I got my pin pointer out, pushed it into the sand maybe two inches, got a hit, reached into the sand and pulled out the pendant! The woman was about 30 yards away by this time so I had to holler to get her attention. She was very happy to get her pendant back. So, after that long story, here's my question. I'm a bit confused about beach 1 and beach 2 and when is it best to use one over the other? I switched to beach 2, from beach 1, because I've read it hits harder on small gold than beach 1. Is this true or have I mis-construed what beach 1 and beach 2 do? Is beach 2 only for in the water?
  11. At the upper right of the page there is an envelope. Click on the envelope and go from there. Either way, I was wondering where you park when you get there at 5am. The main lot doesn't allow parking until 6am.
  12. Zac- How well do you hear the high conductor signals, i.e.. quarters, dimes, dollar coins, compared to the lower conductor signals, nickels, pull tabs, gold etc.?
  13. Hello All-Looking for some info/advice on some Nox waterproof headphones. Has anybody bought a pair? If so, what pair did you get? How do you like them? My hearing is a bit impaired trying to hear the high conductor signals so I try to get headphones that are a bit loud or have a volume control on the headphones. Any help in this area is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  14. I started this thread about why two Nox's. I should have asked, why two Nox's instead of a Nox and a different back up machine. Is the Nox that good? Surf and turf? Thanks again.
  15. Just curious about the reason for owning two Equinox machines. I've read, on several forums, that a number of Nox owners are buying two. If you have one, why would you need two? Thanks in advance for your replys.
  16. I tried the wired headphones that came with another detector and just a random pair of wired headphones that I had laying around and the sound was so much better that the wireless phones that came with the 800. There seems to be an echo sound like your in a cave. It's not good.
  17. I agree with FlySAR, my headphones sound muted or muffled also. I have the volume and the tone volume set to 25, but the sound is still not great. It's loud enough, but not clear enough. I hooked up my Pro Golds via the cable and the sound is SO much better. Clear and crisp.
  18. The issue is, when I turn the pin pointer off, the coil doesn't come back on. I get the "no coil" flashing. Sometimes I can turn the pin pointer back on, then off again and the coil will connect. Lately though, I have had to turn the Deus completely off, headphones off and start from the beginning. Now, this doesn't happen every time, but it seems to happen three to five times per three or four hunt. That may not seem like a lot, but it can be very annoying and frustrating when you're out in the field thinking, "is the coil coming back on or am I going to have to start over?" It breaks up your concentration. I'm not sure what you mean by "configs." By the way, I'm using the nine inch HF coil at 28 kZh usually. Would removing the pin pointer and then pair it up again help? Should I re-load 4.1? Can I re-load 4.1 over 4.1 or do I have to re-load 4.0 and then download 4.1 over 4.0?
  19. Four days detecting and nothing but problems with the MI6 pin pointer. V4.1 is worse than v4.0 ever was. So, MI6 pin pointer is going back on the shelf or being sold unless Xp can come up with a fix for the connectivity problem. I'm tired of having to shut down the Deus once or twice to get the coil to connect after turning off the pin pointer. Anybody got any other ideas?
