  1. Yes I agree, I feel am am pretty good an interpreting the Nox mixed signals, the Manticore is taking some work to sort out, I think my issue is both good and bad targets on the Manticore seem to vary in VDI and bounce in and out of iron more than the Nox. Bouncing to iron can be fixed by adjusting the ferrous limits, but how far is safe on the more difficult targets? (I am mostly looking for what has been passed over by many others)
  2. I am pretty sure I have sorted some of this out. when in all metal the detector provides a red line to indicate iron, that red line seems to last for "a while" the exact time I didn't figure out. the VID number lasts until you cross a target with a different VDI the tone has no delay and changes as soon as you cross a new target ID (keeping in mind that tone ID and VID seem to operate on different thresholds of signal strength for them to register) the two D screen has a fading display I have not had the time to confirm that all of these are independent of each other, but they might be. If what I have said above is somewhat correct it explains how a red line lingers while getting a high tone several times that turns out to be a dime, presuming that anywhere during the swing a ferrous object is detected creating the red line that lingers. (my average swing could go beyond the edges of a plug) To take this a little farther its clear the Manticore was basically designed to run in discrimination mode more than in all metal all the time. This situation does not really occur in discrimination mode. I still have to spend more time, but while figuring this much out I did dig a rosi and wheat in a newer park the has only given up a couple wheats in the last few years. For the way I hunt it would be nice to reduce the red line lingering time to about a half second or less, it becomes confusing seeing the red line so much of the time in a trashy park while running in all metal. I may not have enough time in to reach any conclusions so if anyone's experience is different feel free to clarify. thanks
  3. I was running AT general, 5 tone customized breaks. I don't have that much time in with the Manticore yet, but at that target I was going slow and deliberate. It was the high tone that stopped me, the red line confused me I don't remember the target trace location. I will be watching very close next time I'm out, having a job is really messing with my detecting. On a general note The Manticore seems to provide raw data through a fire hose and it seems the interpretation of the data gets overrun by new data, even when you re-sweep targets. Just my mental picture of what's happening as I swing.
  4. I had the same general thought going on about the nuance in signals and the adjustments to iron bias settings on the nox. Not sure if its the same thing here, but likely something similar. I don't have many hours in yet, but I don't trust the red line. I dug a clad dime because the red line also gave me a high tone, re scan of the hole with plug replaced and got no iron, clean ground?
  5. I'm pretty sure there is not a best answer, I went with water proof just in case, even though I don't water hunt. Most will work fine after you pass 100, you might want to tape over the speaker, mine are all to loud for me. After you have one spend a lot of time seeing how it works. There is a little more skill involved than what it appears.
  6. My most interesting situation along these lines was a high 60s ID a higher tone and a red line ? I was confused and could not see how higher tone and red line can happen at the same time. It sounded like a coin so I dug it, a clad dime about 5 inches laying flat in a trashy park. The most annoying part was swinging the filled in hole and getting no signal Iron or otherwise. I moved on and just noted to trust the tone more that the red line. (for now anyway) I'm still way behind on Manticore ability's compared to the Nox.
  7. Going back to the question do we need another single frequency detector, after a short time of use I would say after only a few minutes of using it, yes, I needed one. My first unit had a glitch with coils, but quick Minelab service replaced it and new unit works fine. I have quite a bit I would like to say from my short amount of time using it, but my Manticore showed up and totally distracted me. 😊 I will come back as soon as I get some more time with it, so I can give more detail. I can say on the same coins I buried that the Nox and Manticore couldn't quite get, the X-pro gave a similar poor signal. (it was the first time swinging the Manticore so maybe not fair, I hope)
  8. Hello Unknwn, I would not worry about software for a while. The rest of this likely belongs in how to use the Manticore and while many of the people here have a lot more experience than I do, my advise is to brace yourself for some frustration. A 200 year old homestead site will likely be filled I mean covered with signals, 95% being junk. Every swing will have targets, you may not be able to find a place to ground balance. I would start with a sensitivity of 15 the higher you go the more tiny targets that will be detected, (the detector will find aluminum rivet heads that are less than a 1/4 inch across 4 inches down) the lower sensitivity will have several benefits for a beginner. I started in All terrain general 5 tones, you will want to turn the horseshoe on and off often to understand how its working hearing all the iron grunts is an eye opener but become hard to take after awhile. Find a VDI chart for the Manticore and print it and carry it while detecting. For practice highlight the common coins on the VDI chart, when you find a consistent matching signal turn 90 degrees and make sure it repeats, keep turning 90 degrees till you have it in the center of the coil. The beep come just as you cross over the centerline. Double beeps can be surface targets raise the coil 6 inches to check. I would detect this way for a while until you are successful with the easy coins before moving on to more complicated stuff. Some trash is exactly the same number as a good target. Often a hole will have both good and bad targets in them always re-swing the hole and plug before filling it in. (two or three coins in a hole happens) Relics are a whole other story, that I shouldn't be the one giving advise on. good luck
  9. As far as I know my machine was the only one with a problem, the coils all seem to work for the rest of the machines.
  10. Probably the last update, at first the response to the service ticket was simple send it back and they will send new. But I received an email from Minelab suggesting a possible easy fix, just turning the detector off then on a second time with the E nox coil(s) attached like normal so it would recognize it. I was stuck at work at the time. I was pretty sure that was going to work, it kind of makes sense, and I do have a tendency to rush and overlook the obvious, but unfortunately it didn't work, so I guess I was just unlucky. Fed Ex has it now, with a little "luck" I'll see a new one soon. I would note that one of the You Tube guys was running the same Coiltek that I have and it was working fine. As far as the detector build and feel, very nice. There is a significant difference in how it detects as you change frequencies. Before I used it I was sure 5 khz would be what I would use, but after a short time 10 khz seemed to be better as a starting point. One thing I noticed when testing was the deepest targets will give correct audio tone, but no number ID similar to the Nox.
  11. I'm at work and I can give a more clear response after I get home where the detector is. lets not jump to conclusions.
  12. Minelab service got back to me, they are checking it out and making it right. 🙂 Thanks Minelab.
  13. That was me, day after getting the X Pro I tried my nox coils and they didn't work, but I did find a you tube video where the guy was using a nox coil and it worked fine. I'm waiting to hear back from Minelab repair about what to do with mine.
  14. Update, I did more checking and even the original Minelab 11 inch nox coil does not work so I figure that if all three don't work they may have a real compatibility problem. The Nox coils act like they are at a sensitivity of 1 or 2 when the detector is maxed out at 25. For the very short time I used it I really liked the Pro, the 12 inch coil covers a lot of ground, my other smaller coils would be perfect in trash. Sent a ticket into Minelab, have to wait and see what they say.
  15. Tried a reset no change, but I hope something like that works.
  16. Came home, charged it up, did some testing with supplied 12 inch, all seemed good. Went outside dug some coins still good. Decided to do some more testing in my basement only to find my 5 x10 Coiltek and my 6" Minelab Nox coils don't work. Connector is correct, and they will air test to just over 1 inch on max sensitivity. (I knew something was wrong as soon as I could max out the sensitivity in the basement.) But as they are, they don't function in any way that is useable, I am worried there is no fix, I guess I will be contacting Minelab service. Being able to interchange the coils was my biggest reason to buy it. 😥
  17. I'll toss my guess into the mix, maybe they redesign the vanquish to look like a nox add features and make it coil compatible with the nox and x-terra, price it at 450 us. I'm not sure if they make the most money, but buyers would a have a good reason to stay with ML and have choices in detectors all using the same mass produced coils. Its already working, because the x-terra pro looks a lot better to many people because it uses the nox coils. I never would have considered it except for that reason.
  18. Just ordered one, should be here this Friday, you guessed it, the place that gets more than the rest.
  19. Back to; out of stock, often its listed, but down at the bottom it shows out of stock, then it becomes available late Monday or Tuesday when you can go to checkout. It would be nice if the dealers let us know what date of the pre-orders they are up to without having to message them. I don't like to be that guy.
  20. I'm following along with the exact same thoughts as the rest of you. If the weather turns nice where I am before I see my Manticore, I'm not sure what I will do.
  21. So frustrating, they seem to have more today.
  22. Looks like the boat showed up at Cabelas again, maybe my guy got a few also.
  23. Wow you guys are good at finding information, I guess I'm back to the waiting game, maybe Minelab surprises us with a module, or the latest and greatest BT LE headphones/earbuds becomes available that work with Minelab's newest detectors. That's all the optimism I have for today. 😁
  24. I guess this is good news thanks for the link. Maybe something else will work in the near future. 🙂 I wonder how they get around acknowledging the use of Bluetooth ? https://www.bluetooth.com/develop-with-bluetooth/marketing-branding/brand-enforcement-program/ It was the first thing that came up when I searched is bluetooth trademarked.
