  1. I went back to original software also. I spent an hour tonight watching almost only the 2d screen. You can learn alot and it will save you from digging junk. But all deep coin size targets 8+ inches seem only to have faint audio, no number or mark on the 2d screen. My 6 inch dime has a scattering of hits around the center line, but never forms any dot, I can tell its something good because there is no dark smear in the upper iron limit and the mixed higher numbers. Not sure how anyone is running tones, but I am using 5 tones, but my highest tone begins at 55 and runs to the top. I did that out of frustration because I could not hit on anything that was consistently a high or even stayed in the range of high tone.πŸ™„
  2. I have all the mentioned issues and I generally ground balance between 2 and 14 or so. I rolled back the update and after a short hunt, the original is better for me. It can take some extreme effort to hit on a nickel and a dime buried flat at 6 inches GB of 3 sens 22. To be fair it takes the same effort to make both my Nox 800 and X-pro to hit on the same two coins. I have dug deeper pennies and dimes, where the sens can run higher, but they will have a 20 + number variation in IDs. (50s to 80s) I wonder if Long Bow has the only machine that hit all the QC checks. πŸ™‚
  3. I'll say it again, good to hear I am not crazy or the only one. After the Manticore update my finds dropped off, I set up some basic tests recently and then rolled back to the original software to check. For me I think the old software was performing better for deeper targets. I am going to be running old software for my next few hunts. I might have found another trick or two also, but have to test more. I think its worth noting that the 700, 900, X Pro and M-Core have jumpy signals, I think ML needs to look hard at their overall software they are using to create their TIDs. I would also note that with the M-Core updated software, every good target I found, the X-Pro also hit easily ??? That was not the case with the old/original software. as for my Pro-find 35, Pleaseeee let me trade it in for the Pro 40, I won't buy the Pro 40 simply out of spite after spending the money for the 35. I'm sure another option will work fine for me.
  4. Hello Steve, you have perfectly documented my exact experience with the MC, prior to update. I have more than 50 hr in for sure and have now updated, since the update my depth arrows seem to be not even close (like 3 or 4 arrows for a 2 to 3 inch coin) and overall depth seems to be less, but more testing/comparison needs to be done. I am glad its not just me with how you described your first 50hr. thanksπŸ™‚
  5. I would have been excited about a Profind 40 if it had come with the price of my Manticore. Can I trade my unused headphones for one ?
  6. It is sad that so many people (here) see the ground as their trash can. πŸ˜₯
  7. I might guess that the poll could turn out to be about 50/50 but I am pretty sure, it tips negative if you include headphones and coils. πŸ™„
  8. Sounds a lot like what I have run into. It would be nice to have a "test" to see if a machine was running correctly. I know there are a lot of variables, but it is hard to use a machine, if you don't know that its running right.
  9. I have Velcroed an ATP-X LL transmitter on the back of the pod and use it on the Manticore and X-T Pro. So far it works good, I have several ear buds that work well with it, and some head phones if its less than 60. Between the headphones and the coils, Minelab has ticked off a lot of detectorists. They have provided a road map for the competition, I bet a year or so from now Minelab will wish it had made different decisions. I think the X-Pro would have had runaway sales if the headphones were regular ATP-x LL. (almost anyone with an equinox and coils would have bought one.)
  10. My depth seems ok, but the update does have a bug in regard to how it affects the audio theme sounds. Turning on the stabilizer causes odd results depending on which theme you are using. I have mostly been using enhanced and it doubles in volume and seems to loose the "enhanced" part of the sound. The resulting sound from the stabilizer filter is so annoying that by itself the sound will keep me from using it.
  11. Yes turning the feature on and off as well as adjusting the range is easy. I figured I had a good test situation so I tried all the search modes with it on and off and changing the range. For what I was swinging over the filter was not helping, but I'm sure it can help in the right place, maybe those square nails bent like a horse shoe. I don't think turning off the stabilizing filter negates the update, in fact with the update I seemed to detect my difficult coins just a little better/consistently than I did before the update, with the filter turned off. With that thought in mind I can't wait to get some more time in.
  12. After a little time playing with the update I am left scratching my head. I have been using the enhanced tones for most of my hunting, but the stabilizer function seems to change the audio back to normal (louder) and does provide a noticeably broken signal crossing nails. But in my nail infested side yard where I have a couple coins buried I could not seem to improve the detectability of the flat coins that I have at 6 inches. (I have had good dig jumpy signals at 8-9 inches quite a few times for wheat pennies in cleaner ground) I tried quite a few setting changes and I have to admit there is a difference in the sound, but the best dig signals came from no stabilizing filter and AT low conductors ? The red numbers can be nice, but they add to the confusion when you see as many red numbers as black while swinging over where you have a coin buried. (next time out I am raising my upper iron limit even higher to see if some deep coins are showing up as iron and deserve extra investigation) If there was some intention to reduce the jumpy ID numbers I could not see it, my nickel varied from 18 to 40, dime mid 60s to 82. Easy targets have a lot less range, but I didn't buy a Manticore to dig 2 and 3 inch clad. My parks have quite a few deep square nails and I hope to test the update there soon, hopefully a little magic happens and those iffy signals from deep square nails sound so bad that I am not tempted and my first dig is a good target. The detector seems to have the power, and I have dug quite a few targets that were passed over by others so I know it is very close, maybe its processor is just a little to fast so each swing over a target generates 4 ID numbers when we only need 2 ?
  13. I have a different idea, maybe they knew a software update was needed and now they have to test new software with the new coils before releasing them ? Some may say I am being picky, but the jumpy IDs on the X pro, Manticore and from what I hear on the new NOXs, have the average and above average guys frustrated.
  14. If you want to read what I think is the latest about the BT LE LC3, I found this, which makes is sound unlikely that Minelab is using it. Could Minelab be that far in front of the curve? https://www.androidbrick.com/bluetooth-le-audio-lc3-codec/ I used up my Metal detecting budget, theoretically these could work. But I have a feeling they won't. Active Noise Canceling, not sure if I want that on all the time.
  15. That is exactly what I did for both the X-Pro and Manticore, working fine, but just in case I have a set of ear buds with a long wire so if any batteries go dead I have easy back up in a zip lock bag that weighs about 2oz.πŸ™‚
  16. I'm quite a few hours in, but I been noticing the depth indicator often gives me three arrows on coins only 3 inches deep. I pulled this one out of an old park this weekend, really boarder line jumpy signal, could have been anything, but it was this thin Canadian dime at about 9 inches. I'm not sure if my digger did the damage on the front or not. ☹️ AT gen sens 27 (normally this park has an enormous amount of EMI)
  17. I know on a fresh buried clad dime laying flat they are basically the same. But that is as much as I would say. I have pulled so many good coins at angles and in trash with the nox I'm sure the X-pro won't keep up when the going gets really tough. But its worth every penny of its price, so far I keep find stuff in my own yard, and I've been wandering around my 1/4 acre lot on and off for more than 10 years. (also I have 4 coils for it)
  18. My X-Pro is working well, pulled this collector coin out of my yard where the nox has detected quite a few times, I was really surprised. I think any experienced user will have no trouble finding good targets. It's target ID is very similar to the M-Core (jumpy) and it also seems to shift up/down the scale a bit when changing frequencies. I have dug several rivet heads, they look like tiny aluminum washers, its sensitive. I think it would keep up with most detectors costing twice as much. A comparison between the Vanquish and X-pro would be interesting.
  19. I'll say this much, Mcore provides a lot of information, and based on my last 8 hours, I am likely going to dig a lot of iron signals next time out to see just how far up I need to shift the iron limit. I am hoping there is a balance point that creates a more consistent overall target response to decide dig or not dig. (a nice dot rarely happens in the 2D screen on more difficult targets, for me) Yes I have dug clad dimes with only iron signal. AT general, ground balance about 4, ferrous limits opened up some from default. About 6 inches deep.
  20. I'm sure if I keep looking and maybe with a software upgrade I will find the 1600. It was easy to find the 269 after a short time with the XT Pro. (and the nox 800) If they could calm the jumpy signals of all the new machines (from surface to 8 inches) there would be a lot more happy hunters. 😁😁
  21. Thanks, although my ground is not that corrosive I seem to be having similar experiences. It seems that my 2D screen fades a little to quickly to get a sense of repeating high numbers that would give a little more confidence to dig. I have found that AT HC seems to have a lot more EMI issues than AT General. Are you running recovery speed at 6 most of the time ? I have not found a sweet spot that I like for RS. So far I seem to have similar results where ever I set RS, whether its a park my yard or old home site in a farm field.
  22. I have resorted to using a $ 29 BT LL transmitter that plugs into the headphone jack. I glued Velcro strip on the cover for the manticore and the other Velcro on the back of the transmitter, it stays stuck right over the back of the housing while plugged into the headphone jack. I have several ear buds that work with it. Volume on the Manticore has been rather tricky, not sure if this is my hack transmitter or just how the manticore works.
  23. That 1 khz has a big change in EMI, 4 seems much better than 5 Khz. πŸ™‚
  24. I or we didn't mean to strike a nerve bringing up target IDs, my concern is more with my Manticore and pro that seem to jump around the same in ground or even with air tests of coins. Or square tabs on top of the ground. The Nox 800 seemed better, maybe only because of the condensed target range, but still seemed better.
  25. I have had similar experience, I am impressed with the Nox 6 inch round, but my time has been limited. I have been expecting people to post great finds, I think they will be coming based on some comparisons I have done with the Nox 800 and Manticore. My wish to the Minelab software engineers is to tighten up the IDs on the Pro and Manticore and likely the Nox 7 and 9. The expanded VID range is very helpful, but it seems to have come at a cost.
