  1. Try its big brother; it will hold bigger nuggets when you do find them.
  2. We all know Minelab are always working on their next generation detectors, be they coin/relic/gold or dedicated gold, as Gerry mentioned elsewhere. I'm guessing that the next GPZ detector will be revealed at the upcoming Minelab dealer conference in Oz, May of 2025. I believe that to be a reasonable prediction, as the 7000 is so long in the tooth now, and Minelab's next flagship gold detector is long overdue.
  3. Great round-up of the training, Gerry. Always happy to help out getting your customers up and running with their gold nugget detectors; it was a really good class with great students, lots of fun and fantastic weather to boot.
  4. It's always a pleasure to see a student unearth their first gold; congrats again, Dave.
  5. From a previous post: “A hopper crystal is a form of crystal, the shape of which resembles that of a pyramidal hopper container. The edges of hopper crystals are fully developed, but the interior spaces are not filled in. This results in what appears to be a hollowed out step lattice formation, as if someone had removed interior sections of the individual crystals. In fact, the "removed" sections never filled in, because the crystal was growing so rapidly that there was not enough time (or material) to fill in the gaps. The interior edges of a hopper crystal still show the crystal form characteristic to the specific mineral, and so appear to be a series of smaller and smaller stepped down miniature versions of the original crystal."
  6. I've only ever found one small gold-quartz specimen at Rye Patch; definitely a mystery as to why the vast majority of Rye Patch nuggets found are free of quartz. Looking forward to helping out at the upcoming detector training class, Gerry. The weather forecast for the 3 days looks fantastic - sunny and 70+ degrees!😎
  7. If it doesn’t scratch glass, it looks like it could be aventurine.
  8. Howdy Arky, this is the extended forecast from the Weather Bug app: We are getting quite a bit of rain today, but it looks like we will be good to go after this weekend.
  9. Ditto on speakers; no earbuds for me either.
  10. No doubt one of the quirkiest looking nugget detectors I've ever seen, the SDC 2300 is nonetheless a top performer in the gold fields. Compact, rugged, waterproof and equipped with full-time automatic ground balance, it is a turn on and go machine able to go anywhere and handle any ground type from extreme iron mineralization to alkali salt rich soil. Its sensitivity to tiny nuggets is exceptional. The jittery threshold took a little getting used to, but once I did I was amazed at how even very faint targets were recognizeable amidst it. The unit is a little on the pricy side, but definitely worth evey penny.
  11. By far the best performance gold nugget detector I have ever owned. Superior depth and sensitivity, outstanding ground cancelling, great user interface and downloadable software updates make this machine the weapon of choice for professional nugget prospectors as well as the serious hobbyist. Even though it could shed a few pounds and cut its price tag in half, I believe the GPZ 7000 still merits 5 stars based on its incredible performance alone.
  12. If there's such a thing as the perfect VLF gold nugget detector, the Gold Monster 1000 is it. Super simple to operate, lightweight, weatherproof, extreme sensitivity to a wide range of nugget sizes and depths, boosted audio, rechargeable battery, two coils, great price...what's not to like?!
  13. This was my first gold nugget detector, and I don't recall anything that I didn't like about it. Although there is a learning curve to operating it, once I undersood what it was telling me no piece of gold was safe, not even the smallest crumb.
  14. I’m really liking the new Goldmaster 24k, a very versatile VLF gold machine with innovative ground balancing technology and adjustable feature set. It’s lightweight, well balanced, very stable at high sensitivity with minimal coil bump falsing, has a pleasant tone, and won’t easily tip over when sitting on the ground. And the machine's versatility is enhanced by its DD and concentric coil options.
