  1. Boot scrape…one of the most important aspects of detecting for gold. Good reminder...
  2. Don't know if you're answering me but here are some thoughts. The detector and coil (a 7000) is something like 7.3 pounds including the coil. Extension is a matter of personal preference and the person's height. Again, total length of coil to arm rest depends on the above mentioned factors The balance is something that again is either a persona preference or dependent on the person's height.
  3. I honestly don't know, I've never used one or been tempted to use one, it just looks clunky. I use the harness that came with the 7000. You have to fool with it to get it just right and a lot of people never get it right - when you do, it's pretty functional. BUT I hasten to add, all this is opinion and personal experience and everyone on this forum has differing opinions. That's what makes it so valuable.
  4. Just able to jump in today after about a week of weirdness. Hope all is well with everyone and with the forum.
  5. You may have started a trend Mitchel. I can see it now - a bunch of guys out detecting in their cool styled slippers.
  6. Chet, you have added your clear and educated viewpoint to a large and growing chorus of customers who have been asking questions on this topic literally for decades. Why the logic of your questions is not put into use is opaque. Too bad for MineLab customers.
  7. I am already lucky enough to have a 7000 and a NF coil, so the 6000 would be the obvious choice.
  8. That was my favorite way to hunt for gold. There were four summers between 1977 and 1982, where I got to dredge all over the motherlode. They were magical times, and yes Rick, you are right, plenty of gold.
  9. Here is my rule for detecting in hot weather: if your clothes catch fire as you get out of the truck, it's too hot. (bad joke but almost true for many)
  10. nice account LL looking out for more. Thanks.
  11. Blurb is a perfect choice for your book Reg. You have a history few can match and Blurb will do a great job with your many priceless photographs. It's good to know you're recovered from your surgery, welcome back.
  12. Good going, the 6000 isn't worth a thing unless it has a persistent operator. Nice work.
  13. Sorry to hear about Chris, he is indeed a down to earth nice guy.
  14. I long ago realized that the gold most of us are seeking is all around us when we are out doing what we love. I have been lucky enough to have found my 2oz piece, I have dredged literally pounds of gold in mother lode rivers, and over the five decades I have looked for gold, I have realized that for me it is the impulse to search that is the real gold. Great write-up Gerry, thanks for taking the time. Good hunting.
  15. Good advice... If you have driven on ice you will immediately know driving on this stuff is definitely taking a chance. The illusion of control unexpectedly disappears in a heartbeat.
  16. Norvic, what do you think an update would be able to incorporate as it relates to a 6000?
  17. I also detect with a sunblock shirt, it buttons up, has a collar and long sleeves with ample pockets. VERY helpful in the sun.
