  1. The real shame of this kind of thing is that it further erodes trust in the people around you and that is not fixed easily. I used to love gold basin but stopped going there many years ago for exactly the reasons being talked about now. I just can't bring myself to pack a weapon when the reason is because of other people. I would rather find somewhere else to go.
  2. I also have the Nugget Finder coil cover. It is a vast improvement to the ML coil cover. It's much more sturdy.I have used it now for a while and have no complaints at all.
  3. I for one, am happy to have an alternative to the stock coil, close as it is in size. It will be another useful tool and I have never been disappointed with any Nugget Finder coil…ever, and I have owned a ton of them.
  4. I just ordered. I am sure I will learn something and I fully support Reese's efforts. The time and energy put into writing a book is enormous.
  5. Not only are you a top of the heap detector operator but you have that additional ingredient that makes you unique; intuition
  6. Anyone pulling up gobs of gold like this would not be bothering to make teaser videos, they'd be too busy.
  7. You are doing better than us down here with good weather. Good going.
  8. We met him in (I think) the early 2000s and his discovery was sometime in the 1990's. There are people here who knew him better than I did - Rob Allison is one - and maybe if he sees this, he can be more specific and fill in some more details. It was pretty famous at the time.
  9. I have found this to be one of the most fun aspects of detecting. Helping people get on gold. That became even more important after I had two people in particular who were incredibly generous with me in helping me with some wonderful finds. They didn't have to do anything, we would be the same friends whether they helped or not, but they chose to help. I feel honored if I get a chance to pass their kindness forward. Yes you always risk losing 'friends,' but usually I think most of us can tell who is trustworthy and who is not. If anyone is interested, this is a short recollection I wrote after the passing of a legendary detector operatorAREA 51, RD's Story pdf .pdf here in Ca. It also involves losing a friend over gold. (the pdf below is okay to download) RD and Area 51 (new).pdf
  10. Whoa Dave…not sure if that was common knowledge. Glad you are on this side of all that and look forward to your return to the goldfields.
  11. Rob you have a nose for gold there is no doubt. You make it hard to remember... it's hard work.
  12. Couldn't say it any better than that. Thanks Wes.
  13. Wes, does that mean that Newmont (or whoever the mining company is), doesn't worry about the surface finds so much? I had once heard they like it if you let them know where you find stuff…but that was awhile ago.
  14. I am in awe of both of you, Chet and Phrunt. Your thoughtful and clear posts are an education. There is no way I could pull off what you guys have done. I am still hoping NuggetFinder is able to get their coil out but it's been pretty quiet. In the mean time I read your posts and learn.
  15. If you live in LA you're basically screwed unless you have some of what Mitchel runs on. His pre-dawn runs are getting to be legendary but he's right, if you want to go somewhere with better odds, that's what you have to do if you live in a city where you drive almost a hundred miles just to get out of town. Nice one Mitchel, you earned that piece.
  16. Exquisite gold and a good story. Thank you for posting.
  17. …one of the reasons I put all sorts of tape with garish, loud colors on mine. It's really helped when I walk away from it.
  18. Chase, when you try one, I'd be interested in reading your opinion. Especially as it relates to a GPZ with an sP01.
  19. The sP01, as it exists right now, is a marked improvement for making signals stand out when I use it with the GPZ. I am sure everyone has differing experiences, but I am very glad I am able to utilize it's advances. It's fascinating to see how much of detecting involves personal choices about what works for us specifically and what does not.
