  1. The Doc was impressed but not surprised, as soon as the shoulder popped back together, it stopped hurting. By Wednesday I could lift my arm to shoulder height, and it was almost pain free today. He was as old and maybe a little older than me, but he was well informed with newer treatment. Told me the sling they give you is old school, that it is better to use it as much as possible as soon as possible. If you're older... But not lifting weights above the shoulder, or playing football or basketball. Digging is a "hunched" procedure, perfectly acceptable. I'm wondering if there's a fully composite shovel out there that is as strong as it is light. ðŸĪ” Titanium is kinda expensive.
  2. Not as yet for me, but I only used it for about 3 hours. Bluetooth is low energy draw, I'm hoping the drain is minimal. However, keeping the phone hot is gonna hurt, I recommend a PD battery for that. ðŸĪ”
  3. Quite the opposite, the first stuff came from there, some colonial buttons, a few musket balls, and a WW1 service button. 😀 And a ton of construction crap ðŸĪĢ Cider Vinegar has been my friend for a while now after a long day in the fields or on the beach. That and ibuprofen. ðŸĪ” I feel better the more I do it, not less 🙂
  4. Thanks Ghound, Yeah, last Sunday I fell 8 feet out of my attic onto the ladder on the floor that kicked out, and completely dislocated my left shoulder. The ER doc refused to give up and helped me get the arm back in, an extremely painful experience that even morphine didn't help much ðŸŦĪ I was really nervous after a lot of Internet "lawyers" comments about recovery time, but today the doc cleared me for detecting. ðŸĨģ So I had to copy you and get an IHP 😏
  5. Best of luck in the UK! 🍀 That will be the adventure of a lifetime. 🙂 I've got all the D2 coils, I primarily use the 13" because most of my permissions are big, and it's a killer on the beach. I initially bought the D2 with the 9", and only bought the 11" because I couldn't wait for the 13". I know, more money than sense ðŸĪŠ but I now find uses for them all. We have a similar string of past detectors, I started with an Ace 400, moved up to the Equinox 600 that I enjoyed immensely, but now I'm completely hooked on the Deus 2. I've followed the discussions on all the other current machines, and for me nothing else will do, except maybe a Deus 3 and the MI-7 with iron ID. 😏 Well, maybe a 10x5 elliptical for the D2... ðŸĪĢ
  6. Went to an Orthopedic surgeon today to get a prognosis on using my dislocated shoulder for metal detecting. 😎 First I thank you all that wished me well (or at least had thoughts) in my recovery. 👍 Doc poked, prodded and tested my arm functions, and told me something very interesting - that older people (I'm 63) that dislocate their shoulder have a much lower chance of dislocating it again than younger people do. 😝 You're "broken in", so to speak. I told him of my obsession, he was impressed and he told me that it was ok to go out and dig. It boils down to the old Hee Haw sketch: "Doc, it hurts when I do this." "Well, don't do that!!". ðŸĪĢ So, I got out in the field out front for about 2 hours, and the only thing that hurt was holding the shovel over my shoulder. Still got a couple of muscles in my arm that aren't quite healed. It wasn't a bad day at all. Got an IHP that I think is 1902, a silver plated spoon bowl served up as a taco, and an extremely old (17th-18th century) drawer escutcheon in 3 pieces. I'll take an IHP any day, even if it's toasted. 🙂 Game on! Not much trash either, the nail was in the same hole as the IHP, and the steel can bits just had to go with that brassy 82 and 89. The small lead pistol ball was a really weird tone because it was mixed in with the aluminum. 😀
  7. I see you're as experienced with this detector as I am. 🙂 bought mine in March 2022. 👍 Since then I've used it for everything but prospecting. I wasn't trying to be insulting, and if I was I apologize. Your profile doesn't have any info, and you didn't do a Meet and Greet so I had no idea what your experience is. Nice discussion about disc vs. notch BTW. Push would be much better to use for sure, and it would be nice to know what program (and coil) you used for the duration. I use the 13" for most of my field hunting, and find it adds high tones to iron if detected on the edge of the coil, so every time I hit an object that did it I made sure to center the target to get the most accurate "dot". However, one of the things I do when scouting permissions is to look for concentrations of iron, and I think Auto would be good for that - if I had a different cellphone. 😀 Close the Z-Flip and it doesn't record even if the app is live. Doesn't fit in my deep pocket open with a backup battery! Have you looked at OnX Hunt or OnX Backcountry?
  8. Maybe, but if your sensitivity is too high, you're getting iron wrap and digging way too many false IDs. ðŸĪ” Try 87-90, if your reactivity is right you won't lose any depth.
  9. When I want to track and record targets I use OnX Hunt. I don't know if Go Terrain will stop either, but if you drew a detection zone it will at least vibrate your phone to turn it off. OnX Hunt allows you to edit your track later when you forget. ðŸĪĢ I can record photos of my finds and the IDs as well. I find OnX Hunt useful to keep track of large places, but there's something to be said about the private server storage in Go Terrain, I think OnX stores the tracks on my phone. If it recorded the finds when my phone was closed I might switch to it. ðŸĪ”
  10. Good choice, either sensitivity is too high or you're in a trashy area or both. 🙂 The farm in front of my house isn't too bad and I'm running sensitivity at 90.
  11. Finding an IHP always makes me smile. 🙂 What it means is you're going to find something older eventually. 👍 Nice coin! I'd be happy with that.
  12. Wow Dan, that was a good one. 👍Looks like you carpet bombed the place 😉 Guess that will all be gone if the lake ever comes back. Nice silver haul!
  13. Great hunt Sinclair, really good you were able to take advantage of the erosion. I hope no one was harmed by the flood. Great rings and amount of money found, can you still exchange old currency?
  14. Ha, yeah I'm that old. ðŸĪĢ I do have a battery pack but the Z-Flip is so long when open it doesn't fit in my pocket with the battery attached. Fine folded, but that shuts off whatever comms it has with the coil to grab IDs. I turn off location data on my pics, something I learned long ago reading articles on how people will use that data to go where you were. Doesn't matter here where I have cameras, but other locations might be a problem ðŸĪ” The digger worked out great for me today except maybe the really deep targets. 😀 I can only dig with one hand right now.
  15. Another nice one in the bag, LC! 🏆 Congrats. Which coil did you use? ðŸĪ” And if you don't mind, what's your secret for getting all the bronze cancer off? Might do some of that with a bronze medal I found.
  16. Found it! It's the device that goes through the side of a banjo for the bolt that holds the rim down over the skin. It's called a "Banjo Shoe".
  17. Awesome pic Dan! ðŸĪĢ I can see why you use a pick, and yeah, only rain or wind would erase your footprints and digs there 😏 walking on corn trash is another story. Next time I'll set up grid stakes and really give it a go, but OnX Hunt allows you to track yourself, record pics and info, and even edit your track later when you forget to turn it off. It also works well with a flip phone, I saw Chase using one and hadda have it because it fits in the average cargo pocket with a big battery attached. 😁 Hope ya got some great stuff! 🍀
  18. If you read my posts you'll know I badly dislocated my left shoulder last Sunday. Then XP released the Go Terrain app, so I had to try it out. I held off until today, and just took a minimum of gear with me, I dug my targets with @kac's excellent Devil's Tongue digger. The ground in the field in front of my house is littered with corn trash, at least they turbo tilled it. This is from the app, I set a detection zone, and started tracking. It was late in the afternoon so I only covered about a third of my zone, but I tried everything. Yep, right out in front of my house. 😁 First off I'll say the app is cool, and I sure don't mind paying 10 bucks a year for it. Instructions are pretty easy to follow, and it does what it says it will do. It records your finds after a selectable number of swings, I picked 8 in 10 seconds like the excellent instruction video. I was easily able to pair the coil, just search for it and swing the coil over a find until it registers. Everything worked very well. It recorded my path ok, GPS accuracy isn't all that good due to lots of military aircraft testing in my area, so it kinda fluctuated, creating the squiggly path. At first I didn't have path enabled, and if you forget it enabling it later will turn it on. I even tried going away from a target without digging it and went back, found it fairly easily and dug it. I also went out of the zone many times and it vibrated the phone as expected. 👍 I paused and restarted the app many times in order to dig my targets, you have to remember to start it again, and if you don't pause it, it will keep registering the target especially if it has varying IDs, which lots of targets will. I had to pinpoint and use the MI-6 a lot as all I had was a small digger. Iron targets are recorded as black dots unless there is some falsing, a few times I re-registered targets because I knew the reading was false, if you have big iron on the edge of the 13" coil that is what happens until you are over it. "Null" targets - those that come up with -- on the display - will not be recorded. With my program this means anything below 1. These are my finds, mostly stuff I would throw out. The lamp wick raiser was about 8" deep, tough to get with a hand digger in this dry soil, but the ID was accurate. Ok, now my thoughts about this app: I have a Samsung Z-Flip 4 that I can fold and keep in my pocket with a battery that keeps it going all day. However, that is a problem. Unless the phone is on and the app is running in the foreground, it will not record targets. ðŸ˜ĩ It will track but that's it. Folding the Z-Flip shuts the screen off. The screen doesn't "follow" or move when you have it zoomed in, so you have to keep hitting the location icon to see your present position. This could be fixed by making your "sprite" move the screen. ðŸĪ” The detectorist in the video made it look very cool using the app, in reality not so much. You'd have to have your phone running live in a pouch and whip it out when you want to see anything, or you'd have to have a chest harmonica rig to see it all the time 😏 I'm not one of the Blues Brothers, so this ain't gonna do it for me. 😎 To get the vibrations when you leave your detection zone you'd have to hold it, putting it in your pocket or a pouch renders that feature moot. The app is very cool, but not well conceived for us dirt pirates, maybe it's cool in Europe to walk around all day with a cell in your hand, but not with a detector in one hand and shovel over your other shoulder. I still haven't found a shovel clip that stays together for even one day. When you close out your hunt it takes a long time to upload it to the server, at least with my measly 3 bars of 4G. I might use it now and again for fun, but really OnX Hunt still does it for me. It runs and tracks all the time. At least I got my thank you for coming prize after I put the phone away, this really interesting Civil War relic that I cannot identify ðŸĪĢ I looked for it on the Internet and did find a similar relic found in Culpeper VA, about 60 miles away: I don't think the seller knew what it was either. 😏 If any of y'all know please help. 🙂
  19. Thanks Ghound, It might be my head trying to make something out of nothing, but I think I can almost make out the word "wealth" below the figures. It may be some old rare Virginia commemorative. I have searched various topics thanks to you, Peace medals, medals in general, old American bronze stuff, you name it. Nothing yet, but I'm hoping. 🙂 Wish there was a way to get more detail, I am not well versed in restoration.
  20. You're welcome, using technology is a great help, but nothing beats research and plain old repetition. 🙂 I've been hunting farms for 4 years now from October to April, sometimes as many as 4 days a week. Hope you read the older info as well, I tried to jam it all in this post. 😀
  21. I'm particularly interested in the "on the fly" function of being able to draw a box and detect that area with notifications when you go outside what you mapped. Cell service and mobile Internet are not that great in my area, despite having the service that is most present. GPS is often pretty far off here due to all the military testing. I'll be testing it soon.
  22. Hey Cap'n, This came from a spot where a horse training spot was, I've found a lot of stuff dating back to the 1600s there. Spectacle buckles, Tombacs, lots of brass buttons. Further out we got a large cent and a half reale. High reactivity speared it even with the 13", I believe it was on edge. If those boys are embracing their lowered arms appear to have weapons, it would not go well ðŸĪĢ
  23. Thanks Cap'n, Appreciate the conversion. 🙂👍 If I'm not mistaken there are a few groups of modes, I'll try to upload some more charts that have any different options. I selected Beach because it seems to have the most, and all should show up on the same places... Or not. 😀
  24. A couple weeks ago I was hunting one of my pretty heavily hit areas, and by chance got a 94 blip on the Deus 2 between some iron. I dug out a rather heavy bronze medallion with heavy bronze disease and it was obviously corroded and broken on the edges. It's flat on one side, and sort of domed on the other. It weighs 10.6 grams and at its highest measurement it is almost 3mm thick. It is almost 1.5 inches at its widest. Didn't look like much when I first sidelighted it, kinda like a bow or something. I set it aside and picked it up today and saw something completely different on a different orientation: it sort of looks like two soldiers in combat. I thought I'd post it to see if anyone recognizes the pattern, the flat back isn't much help either. Google lens brings up all sorts of ancient stuff, nothing that "should" be found in America. ðŸĪ” Any help, even wild speculation would be appreciated! Also any suggestions on how I could make more details stand out.
  25. I want to mention that this chart is based on Beach Sensitive, other programs may have less controls. ðŸĪ” I'll have to look at others to see what other options they have or do not have.
