  1. That's keeping it simple and affordable RVP. πŸ‘
  2. Wow Rod, I second Doc's and RVP's opinions, 4 of those old coins so far? That's a great place. Yep, yet another King George coin. Might be KG 3. Best stuff I've seen in a while. πŸ† Maybe you found the clothesline 😎 Are you getting a lot of buttons? Mind your low conductors there, that many old coins could produce a gold one. Sometimes old silver is a bit lower as well.
  3. I'm sure diving with the Deus 2 can put greater stresses on the stock attachment, you would think a friction fit wasn't the best idea. 🧐 I doubt the engineers spent a lot of time underwater with it. 😠 I've seen that one, does it still snap into the frame or is it something better? I imagine there isn't anyone that has never had the remote pop off, and usually at the worst possible moment. πŸ‘
  4. Thanks RVP. πŸ™‚ Yeah 95 is the worst especially coming through DC into Northern Virginia, all the way to Fredericksburg. I've been stuck in 3 hour traffic jams there. 🀬 Then you get on the road to where I live, and you get no traffic but the town distance signs always seem to show they are further away. 😠
  5. Your coin is a KG2 Hibernia, depending on where the harp is pretty much determines its year. Could be a "Woods" coin making it even more valuable. If you can get some better pics of it (Don't clean it hard!) It would help, but start there. πŸ‘ Awesome coin. "Georgius Dei Gratia Rex" πŸ† Also, your Standing Liberty is in great shape πŸ™‚ Hopefully @GB_Amateur will weigh in.
  6. Wow Rod, beautiful place and great hunt. Looks like you got a bit of everything from an un-hunted permission! Looking forward to your next search already. πŸ˜€ Here's a possibility for your hexagonal objects - cannery tokens. Are any of them stamped? https://www.worthpoint.com/dictionary/p/coins-currency/trade/cannery-tokens
  7. I have always thought that High Square is an audio mix of PWM and Square audio in an effort to get the best of both worlds. I rely on it especially to determine aluminum from other metals, it's not always perfect in that sometimes I get a pure tone with some aluminum, but always find the target to be aluminum if it goes to the "brassy" sound.
  8. I've got one slightly better photo, and I downloaded the comparison: I'm going by the word "TRUST", which appears to have one larger side on the "U", making it the large motto version. πŸ™‚ Thanks for the specific link!
  9. Haha, I clean all my stuff after every hunt but also I've only just finished putting all that together. I've only done about 4 hunts with my gear so far. 🀫
  10. Thanks for the background info, GB! πŸ‘ Always appreciated. Here's a closer photo of the latest 1864: And the coin I found a month or so ago: I'm thinking they are both the "large motto", but just finding one was great. πŸ™‚ I think that's the best I can get out of either one.
  11. Sharp and efficient! πŸ‘ An excellent variation. I'm really interested in that round pouch, if you don't have a supplier I'll look for one. One of these days I'm going to ask Kac for that knife, but I'm doing fine with the Park Probe. πŸ™‚ I do have a large water bottle holder: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07RMT82LP It's not insulated like the little guys but the steel bottle I have fits well. 😎 Found them: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B09WML2HMF Had to buy a 2-pack πŸ˜€
  12. My place in the world was discovered in 1606 by an English explorer, the 1607 coin I found was probably lost along with the belt buckle and a few buttons in an expedition not long after that. Unless someone brought some really old coins and dropped them, I will never find an older one πŸ˜€ Your coin has a rarity index of 97 on Numista, few are more rare than that. https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces313337.html Bravo! πŸ‘ πŸ™‚
  13. Congratulations on finding the ΓΌber old coin Sinclair! πŸ† Hope you find an even older one, I doubt I'll beat 1607, but you have a much better chance. πŸ˜€ Great hunt and best wishes for the coming Neujahr. πŸ₯³
  14. That's quite an opportunity VL, I hope you'll be bringing your gear (and picnic basket) with you on your world tour. Check the detecting laws for Norway and find yourself a hot spring to detect or something. πŸ˜€ And a couple snow bunnies to help ya dig. 😁 Uncle Sam paid for my trips to Europe and the Middle East, and Customs waved us on through because you can't go through a metal detector with an M16 🀣 Glad I had an opportunity to see what's up out there. Once we earned a luxury Air America flight back home, it blew a blast door landing in Maine 😬 The rest of the trips were "Army Coach" on C-141 StarLifters with web seats. That pouch holds an electric hand warmer, my vapes and some extra bolts for the coil, with pockets to spare for a Loupe and a small retractable measuring tape, and of course relics and junk. The folks who dig big iron might not like it because the dump pouch isn't big enough for cannon balls and horse shoes. πŸ€” I do think a flask pouch could be added if necessary. I also wear a backpack Fly Fishing vest for other stuff. I'm probably an either scary or amusing sight. Best of luck on your travels. πŸ‘
  15. Welcome! I'm relatively new to the hobby but jumped in feet first, and now I'm up to my neck πŸ™„ I too use the D2 here on the Northern Neck of VA, loved the Equinox but haven't looked back (much) CW relics are few and far between here, but colonial stuff is everywhere. I've dug Spanish silver right out my front door. πŸ˜€ Not anymore... Hope you settle in, and post some finds now and again. πŸ‘
  16. Way back in '21 I posted a thread about gear. I'm always looking for interesting stuff for cheap, so here is my 2023 setup. I made a major change in my relic hunting gear this year, since I started detecting I've been using various belt bags, the lighter the better for the beach, but all my finds bags were belt. What I've found is that belt bags beg other bags on the belt, and the more you put on there the higher chance your detector will snag on something from time to time. Got tired of it. Chase has been hunting with me for 3 years now, and I've always admired his finds bag, a military style drop leg pouch with pockets. He says it is no longer made so I searched extensively and found this one which is as close as I could get, and probably much cheaper: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07STZ7X34 It's only about $30. It is the only one that has Molle straps over two of the pockets, and enough D rings to make me happy anyway, with a Velcro band for morale patches. Here's my rig after adding a few more pouches: I added a flashlight pouch for my spray water bottle (Hoover Boys Foo Foo), and a couple of brushes. The pointer slips neatly into the web holding the pouch, and it doesn't snag. On the right side I added two 16oz somewhat insulated water bottle holders on the D ring, because a 32oz steel bottle is just too damn heavy and "swingy". The other side D ring is for the pointer lanyard. I have this rig strapped around my waist with the pad on my right side and the bag on my left, it has a nice elastic leg strap that doesn't really bind or allow the bag to move around. The real advantage comes from holding the detector in my right hand, there is nothing to hit or snag on. I get a full swingπŸ‘ I'm pretty sure this bag can be used on either side. Modifications I made to the bag were cutting out the internal waterproof cover, and cutting off the top flap and strap with a razor knife so the main compartment is a "dump pouch". I added the IR USA flag patch and the clover because I was in the military and the clover is for luck. I have a clover pin another detectorist cast and sent a few of us for Christmas last year, but that's on my beach gear. πŸ˜€ It has brought me a lot of luck. The flashlight pouch is also from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07G3QYJRW The two water bottle holders are these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01GYIYQQA Total cost without the patches is around $60. I've paid a lot more for pouches in the past. πŸ™„ Tight, light and easy to carry all day. I encourage anyone that reads this to post their own rig!
  17. I probably would be half as prolific if I never came across this forum, I have a lot to be thankful for since I first bought an Ace 400 to look for nails after a roof job. I suspected it to lead to more, but never imagined how much more. I've made quite a few friends here and expect to be here for quite a while, it's the only forum I signed up for. I hope I have contributed to others' skill as well. Allow me to humbly cast my vote for the Deus 2, it brings so many revolutionary facets to the hobby such as extreme light weight, completely wireless operation, and for me the tightest ID range of any machine I've used, sadly not enough but a wonder to me. It has its quirks but none of the other detectors I've used are anywhere near as versatile, nor "fit" me the way the Deus 2 does. I will nod to the Equinox 600, in its simplicity it was a killer for me, I still use it from time to time but its use is reduced the more I learn the D2. Thanks go to you all for the help and kicks in the butt as I go on. πŸ™‚
  18. Congrats Dan! Nice to get some shiny digging all that lead. Persistence pays off. πŸ‘
  19. Thanks Colonel, It's becoming strategy now, many of the places I have permission to were detected by others, either with or without permission. 🀬 Mostly without in some cases, but I won't accept "I don't think they'll mind " as permission. Strategy and persistence produced some pretty great finds at one of the more high profile places. πŸ™‚ It's fun to see "Farm Hunting 101" proving itself. πŸ˜€
  20. Thanks, the last few hunts I've been on have returned some interesting stuff but not without some effort and persistence. This was a "newer" farm, probably not ever part of a big plantation, so there aren't going to be hotspots with spectacular finds. I'll take what I can get! Glad to get one interesting thing, let alone two. πŸ˜€
  21. I'll probably do that, thanks! I'm pretty sure it's the standard version, I'll post a comparison in this thread. πŸ‘
  22. Thanks JCR. I understand about the rain, but this time of year that much saturation will freeze overnight and then melt during the day, creating "heavy boot syndrome". πŸ˜€ The thin layer of mud accumulates on your shoes until they weigh so much you have to scrape some off. Kinda slows ya down. 🀣 I have to wait two days after a light rain, more after a heavy one. 😡 The 3"+ we got yesterday makes a total of about 9" over the last couple of weeks, we're lucky here because the soil absorbs it rather quickly, and the wind gusts to 40-50 mph today well help speed that up. Heading to another place this week that I hope is far less cherry picked. πŸ™‚
  23. When I was a kid we were swimming in my buddy's backyard pool, we heard a very loud strange whoosh sound, and saw a greenish white streak in the sky in a downward trajectory. It was a very unique sound that I still remember. This was in the daytime. It was a meteorite, later confirmed. πŸ‘ What must really be memorable is when they explode, that would be a bigger one. 😬
