Greetings to All. I know the GMX is waterproof, but I am trying to tell if the GM24k and GMX Sport are otherwise the same machines. I'm not very tech savvy (but working on it), so if anyone can enlighten this poor soul, I would be very grateful.

A rare bird so far. Here is my 24K with the second hand 4" x 6" DD coil from a GMX. Presumably White's will make these with 24K style decals at some point instead of GMX decals. I'm half tempted to peel the decal off but my better sense tells me I may sell it someday and then I'll wish the decal was still on it. We'll see. But the good news for me is I now officially have all four coils for the 24K. I have asked forum member Jim McCullough to let us know when he gets these coils in stock. I got the Advance Nugget Shooting with the Goldmaster 24k book by Jim McCulloch. He shipped it really quickly. I had already read the manual, but Jim has a very easy to understand way of writing from years of experience. He did a great job of weaving the features of the GM24K and the new GMX into his previous books about Advanced Nugget Shooting. Some of my questions have already been answered with just a quick skimming of the book. I look forward to thoroughly reading it soon. It is well worth the already discounted price. Thanks Jim..... I like the GMX/24k. I got the White's GMX which is a waterproof 24k for lake hunting for jewelry. I've only tested it outside so far using the 6" concentric coil which is 6.5". This detector is completely silent even with sensitivity max. No chatter at all. The iron disc is completely adjustable 1 point at time. At 19 it disc's out a nail one way and gets a hit the other way. I wanted the disc set as low as I could. The vco mode is the deepest and most sensitive mode. Even with disc at 19 I can get a hit on the white gold earring laying on the ground. It does have to be close, approx. 1/4" or less to the coil, but it hits it both ways. I buried a 0.89 gram 10k gold ring at 9" and it got a nice hit all around. Also hits my 10" test dime. I sold the 4x6 coil. The 6.5 concentric was all I wanted. Might get the 6x10 sometime. It is in the XP Sport housing. Even though it weights 4 lbs it feels ok with the small coil. I wish White's had spent some time designing it light weight but it is still comfortable enough to use. I like the display. I like the balance of GMX better than the Gold Kruzer. I hip mount the Gold Kruzer in the water because the balance of it hurts my forearm in a short time. Could probably get used to it though. I like the display on the GMX. At the top there is a bar that shows where the target is from iron thru silver range which is convenient. It is going to be a great lake hunter. Now it's making me think about getting another MX Sport. White's has nice products.

Hey Team, First post, long time lurker. I am right on the brink of buying my next detector. I previously had a GMT w/nugget coil shooter 4x6", which I had dialed in very well, and it detected small good very well. Where I am from everyone uses a GB2, and has good success - they are however hard to find in Canada, and I am leaning towards the 24K/GMX. I like the fact the GMX is waterproof, and I can use it for underwater sniping, as well as never worry about weather and or moisture. It comes with the 6.5" concentric coil, which I have never used, but in my understanding would make it even MORE sensitive then the 4x6" DD coil solution (at the cost of mobility). Do you guys think the new 24K/GMX w/ 6.5" concentric would be a better overall unit for small placer gold then the tried and true Gold Bug 2 w/6.5" coil? I don't want to do this twice is possible. The ground I am in is in the East Kootenays of BC, and is not too hot, but does contain some "spicy" rocks and very jagged bedrock as a platform. Most of the gold I need to detect will need "depth" as utmost importance. It has been picked over very well in the past, and I really need something that will shoot a little better then a hot GB2. The GMX platform comes currently w/ the 6.5" concentric, and the 4x6 new DD coil for $1140 CAD all in. Would the Gold Kruzer perform equally to the GMX/24K platform? It is about $300.00 cheaper for the entire 2 coil waterproof package. Anyways please try to confirm my belief beyond Steve's signature which says he kept the 24K and got rid of the other VLF's lol. Also Aureus's review of his 24K had me sold when he said he was turning old ground into "new" ground. Cheers! 🙂

We now have four coils for the White's Goldmaster 24K and GMX Sport. The two models have coils with different labels, but they are all compatible between the two models. White's GMT and MX Sport coils ARE NOT compatible with the GMT 24K or GMX Sport. There are: 8" x 14" DD 6" x 10" DD 6" (actually closer to 6.5") round concentric 4" x 6" DD This is not perfect but it gives you a pretty good look at the relative size of these coils. White’s new 8″ x 14″ DD Coil for the Goldmaster 24K and GMX Sport is now showing up at some dealers for $249.95 (internet price $229.95), part number 624-0614. Scuff cover /skip plate sold separately, part 501-4101, $9.95. I recently purchased the Goldmaster 24k. In preparation for my first outing I made a test bed of different materials in my back yard. I also printed of the Conductive Order of Metals which was set up based on the Whites Spectrum XLT. So my test bed consisted of a nail, pulltab, penny, nickle, dime, quarter, gold ring. After setting up my detector based on Whites quick start guide I did my testing. Here are the visual target id results. I wanted to compare them to the Conductive Order of Metals GMT 24k reading. nail 39 pulltab 91 penny 95 nickle 89 dime 97. quarter 98 gold wedding ring 94 Conductive Order of Metals nail 0 pulltab 35 penny 56 nickle 28 dime 70 quarter 82 gold wedding ring 40 As you can not even close. So am I wrong in thinking the GMT 24k should follow the Conductive Order of Metals listing? Is there some other listing I should be looking at or is there no corelation at all? Thanks for any help.

Hi everyone, I'm new to metal detecting and I just ordered a Whites 24k. My question is does the IP54 rating mean I can detect in the rain without worry? I've seen the technical definition but wanted to know what that means in practice using the detector in the field? Thanks for this forum, I have learned a heck of a lot. I found a little gold in an old hydraulic pit with hand tools and I'm hoping the 24k will help me cherry pick and save my back!

I purchased a White's 24K this summer and am really liking this detector. Have an out cropping that I swing a Goldbug II over every year so it's been picked pretty clean, but was surprised to actually get a signal with the 24K and it turn out to be gold. Thinking when the 6x4 coil comes out I may finally say goodbye to the Goldbug II. Maybe. One issue I am having is that it will shut off after a couple hours use. It would start back up ok but after running a couple hours it would shut down on it's own again. Just curious if anyone else had encountered this issue? Contacted Whites but haven't heard anything back from them yet.

Jim, I'm curious how they know it is 54% more power to the coils of the 24K. It almost seems like 54% would just as easily be 55% or 50%, but for some reason it is stated and known at 54%? If the new 24K is getting 54% more power to the coil, what would you say the average depth increase would be on typical rice size gold in average North Nevada soil. I realize there is no exact answer as there are many variables, but boy they sure were exact letting us know it has "54%". Reason I am not asking for bigger Au nuggets, as I know the majority of gold found is smaller. Lunk and I have been doing very well with our 24K's, now we'll have to upgrade to the new 100% waterproof version to add another tool (detector) to the arsenal. Photos are some of my 24K finds. For those who don't know, this type of crystalline gold is easier to recover with a VLF detector vs a more expensive PI unit.

White's 24K is one of my favorite dedicated VLF gold detectors for finding gold. It is even better when you use it to find gold nuggets. It is unstoppable when used to find and return a 14K gold ring with natural Alaskan gold nuggets in it, weighing 1 ounce. The owner was broken hearted and thought it was gone forever. Now he is all smiles and very appreciative. His exact comments are posted in the Finding Rings Forum of DP, but I wanted to give a little love to White's for making such a fine 24K detector.

Still no word nor listing on the whites website for the new 24K mini DD coil.... anyone heard anything????
