  1. I've had a detector since I was about 9 years old. I got my first "bigger one" from Radio Shack as a gift when I was 14 (big nerd). That was all relic type hunting at the beach. parks, etc.. I was then out of it for most of my adult life until I got a Garrett 1150 in 2010 and did more beach combing around the LA area. I stopped over time with the trash on those beaches being overwhelming after a while. I got the bug to start looking into gold a few years ago, and I do a lot of 4x4 exploring with some serious equipent so it seems like a great combo. I researched all forums, reviews, videos etc for a year straight. I went to gold shows, in Vegas and SoCal. Sat in on lectures and asked guru's lots of questions. and 6 months of thinking and studying more, I finally got a deal on a GPX5000 with a great coil package. I'm just now getting back from another trip to gold claims run by AMRA and another small prospecting group Im a member of and I'm starting to get that feeling... The one where you want to give up after digging countless holes and getting nothing back but bullets and junk. I think I got my technique down as Im finding even tiny bullet fragments and pellets. Never a nugget of any kind. What do you guys do if/when you feel tired from trash? Do you ever team up with someone that has had luck? lol maybe that's a stupid question because who would share good location ideas!? I do all the suggested things Ive read here. I went to a few old gold mines as well but the bullets, WOW... one had 1000's of shells everywhere so i just left. in fact two guys pulled up when i was leaving with rifles and targets. ENDLESS lead in the ground there. Same with the others I ran into. I dont know anymore. I've spent countless hours out there since, from NoCal around Placerville to Nevada to Mojave. The claims I hit are all full of junk to the point where some would take a year of digging to find anything, to others that never hit on a thing other than a rare nail or washer, with one wire being about like a human hair! (the 5000 with a nugget finder is sensitive !) I need to rethink what Im doing I guess. I can't afford the fuel to keep randomly driving down miles of rough roads and hours of highway. Either it's all dug out and I wasted a lot of my savings and need to sell it, or I need to figure out a whole different way of finding places and/or team up with someone more experienced on the gold side of things to share ideas with. And yes I study maps of old mines, join gold clubs and even try to figure out what western US region people are in that post youtube clips of finds... but so far, nothing, and I'm all out of gas money for the month. Pic samples of my "success" so far!
  2. I realize this is a detecting site... but I just had to share... I went to the bank today to take care of some personal business... on a whim, I asked the teller if she had any rolls of halves or dollars. I like using big coins to treat the kids for acts of kindness, or for buying lemonade from the neighborhood lemonade stand... plus, maybe I would find a silver mixed in. My teller didn't have any, so she asked another teller down the line, who happened to have 3 rolls of halves in her till. I bought all three. When I got back to work, I pulled them out of my pocket, and opened up one end of a roll for a sneak peak. Wouldn't you know there was a 1964 Kennedy staring at me. I slid the rest of the roll into my hand... then the next roll... then the next. 60 coins. 45 coins 1964 or older, 15 coins 1965-1969. I thought my day was going well when I found a silver rosie and a silver canadian quarter in a sidewalk strip at lunch... little did I know what was waiting for me at the bank.. I am still a little in shock. Thanks for allowing my distraction from the detecting forum for a moment. ? ~Tim
  3. If there is one then ignore this. I would love to see a laminated Cheat card Telling the setting (what button does what) for the Gold Master 24K...would make it easier for us who can't remember S... Well Stuff. Thanks
  4. Well , I was using explorer xs to work in the test garden and noticed half the screen went out. Discovered that a couple of the plastic bosses for the screws in the control head had broken, allowing the pc board to separate. On last ditch effort to repair would be to replace plastic control housing if cost effective. So looking to purchase a front half for the control housing.. This is the plastic that the keypad attaches too. I would consider a parted machine if not cost prohibitive. I am kind of attached to the xs , and was trying to keep as a backup, but I think it is P......d because the nox is the new kid. Prop
  5. Tried my usual dealers and nothing. If anyone has a lead on one they want to share, or tried one and it's not your cup of tea and want to sell it, please PM me

  7. Is there a way to reinforce this part of the plastic? It will soon be cut off.
  8. I have experienced the following and have read where others have too. The multi frequency is where it seems where most of the performance is with Equinox. However there are times where using single freq can help like checking bottlecaps say with 5 or 10 kHz. The problems comes in here where a user of Nox can accidentally leave their detector in singles freq ops hence they may lose out on the grand performances of multi freq unknowingly, hence miss some finds. So it would have been nice if Minelab would have incorporated an alarm ( that user can select) if they choose that would tell them they are not in multi freq. Mabe even consider allowing time delay adjustable to some degree before it sounds in the event a user does go to single freqs ops. This may of may not be achievable as far a small Equinox by way of updates, but future models using both multi and single freq ops, IMO it would be a nice feature to include. David
  9. Hi all, based in West Aus and new to this detector. Actually, back into detecting after a 25 year break. Moved back to Aus after a long time away, and keen to get digging.. By coincidence Im in the same area that the earliest European settlers, and convicts (Fremantle) lived in West Aus. So id love to find a part of the history , (which is only half as old as US, but i still think interesting.) Now..This detector is super sensitive and Very deep ability compared to my vintage Whites, to the point it annoys me on trashy ground.Im finding it hard to decipher if its actually a massive large target 2 feet underground, like a can or alloy car part or a coin. The id is same as many Aussie coins, the depth says the same, but it sure aint the same item! Im not very good with machine yet, but i noticed the depth meter isnt very accurate on large items and i dig a massive hole to find a deep buried can instead of a coin. Any advice from your experience would be much appreciated cheers,

  11. So my next project is nearly complete already. I've designed a "mini gold cube". Same general idea and layout, but each "tray" is only 11" long, and 6" wide. About half the width of the real Gold Cube. The underflow loop is exactly the same dimensions as the Gold Cube as well, to make calculations easier. I've read that the Gold Cube is set to run on 1100GPH. Since mine is half that width, I would assume that 500GPH would be fine. Also, my trays are set at 9 degrees (just how it worked out). Is that an appropriate flow rate?
  12. Went out yesterday and the unit was hitting between 85 - 90 in relics mode. After digging I found part of a wire fence and beer cans. I'm I missing something the machine is telling me?
  13. I know you’re thinking what kind of bull he’s going to shoot us now. A friend in Oklahoma got a Nox 800 soon after I did. He keep telling me he wasn’t finding any silver are any wheats. I’d tell his you just got to get a place where others haven’t been. I told him the trouble your Nox don’t know what to look for. Again I told this boy I would send him some silver and wheats. The first thing he need was run his coil over what I sent and tell his Nox this is what I’m looking for. Now you may not believe me but within two days he was finding silver and wheat pennies. Here he comes again crying on my shoulder that he can’t find any rings are jewelry of any kind. So here I go sending him all different rings with some being gold other silver plus some jewelry. Again after he got the package he started finding rings. What I didn’t tell you I sent one Indian Head penny and later this afternoon he calls to tell me he found his first said penny. I really can’t say this will happen to you and I’m sure some will say hog wash but it won’t hurt to try it. The Best to all Chuck
  14. I have this coil that I use on my Teknetics Turbo ( Tek Turbo ) with an adaptor for tot lots and the like. I see on a auction site there is a Goldfoot coil listed with a black box attached to the coil wire. The one that I have has no black box. Does anyone know the purpose of this box.
  15. White’s this is no joke I drove 600 miles to Oklahoma to hunt with a friend coin hunting. I’ve been swinging my Sport and been doing great. I couldn’t ask for a better detector but at 77 with both over weight my hunt time is getting shorter. I’m going to work at it getting the weight off of me but I too need your help getting the weight off the detector I swing. I know the Sport is waterproof but I think it’s best if I get wet just in the shower from now own. Well that’s not true when I beach hunt . I would say White’s needs to make a detector for old farts like me but the words Senior Citizen sounds better . I’d like it equal if not better than my Sport but just trim down the fat off of it . I know the MX 7 has less weight but not near enough of what I’m talking about. Please don’t cut down on the screen size because that’s one thing is old guys like . I’m going to let you think about what I said and I if you you can do get back with me . I’ve already got a name for it and that is S C 2.5 ( Senior Citizen 2.5 lbs. ) haha Chuck
  16. GPAA Membership. Is it a joke? Are their Claims all worked out? Is it worth $90 to join?
  17. I was at an organised hunt this weekend where there were many Equinox's. The fields were small and there was a tremendous amount of interference between the Equinox's during the hunts, almost making it impossible to hunt. Besides noise cancelling every couple minutes, are there any things I can do to eliminate or mitigate the interference? Thanks!
  18. Just a quick one chaps (Do we have any chapess's) ........anyways, what causes pitting in silver coins. I found a 1898 coin yesterday and it has micro pitting in it. Never had that in any coin ive ever found. Thats why i like silver, cus its always in good condition. But these pits baffled me. The soil at this location is generally a mild PH, and very dry sandy soil - which to my mind is great for preservation, but bad on abrasion. But i have found over 15 silvers here, and none have pitting. So considering these conditions, what it is that would cause the pitting? I defer to your expertise, Thank you.
  19. Hi you lot, hope your all well, I'm about to go and hit a local park. Ive found loads of silver coins (1880-1940's), but i now sense that ive pretty much hoovered them all up (Silver). Interesting thing is, there are loads of targets around the 10-19 VDI. I'm ideally trying to target a gold coin and gold rings. I know silver gives a lovely tell-tale indicator, for example a 24-25-26 which 99% of the time is... silver. So what does gold do on the VDI? Any skips on the VDI like silver? Im going to be using the depth indicator for potential gold coins, my thinking is that the deeper it is, the more the chance of it being old and not surface rubbish. But the gold rings could be any depth, hence why i ask if there's any tell-tale signs of the yellow stuff. Any other hints and tips would be mega appreciated. Help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Andy.
  20. I see so many new things coming on the seen from other detector companies and I wonder why I can’t have the same. I know Rome wasn’t built in a day and that’s why I said 2019 . I have the Sport and it would be great to notch out one ID number at a time. I see some detectors have a internal battery. I myself don’t find it that great unless you can make it a quick change that I can do. I see others getting notice for a up date on their detector and that’s another item you can add to my list. I see on the 24K it came out with two coils and that’s another great thing I’d like to see. You may not remember but when the 66 TR came out but I do it had two coils . It had the standard large coil and it had a small coil too. I know nothing is free in the world but I for one is willing to pay. I say this if you will give me what I want , not what you want to give me . White’s is a old company not some new kid on the block and I’m one of your old customer that wants the best for you . I’m always in the wants for something so you can be sure I’ll be back. Chuck
  21. we are leaving Alaska heading south to Nevada and Arizona for two months do we need to watch out for snakes and creepy crawlers leaving Wednesday thanks doug
  22. Hi All- A friend of mine found a set of Military dog tags today and he was wondering how to get them back to the owner. The internet says, 'send them to the Secretary of Defense'. He would like to get them back to the owner personally. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
  23. I repaired the coil ears on my Teknetics G2. I bought a sheet of ABS plastic on Amazon .177" thickness. I made a paper template by laying a piece of paper between the ears and shaping the paper to fit. I cut 2 pieces of ABS to stack between the ears for support of the new ears. I roughed the ABS a bit, then used Oatley's ABS glue(medium black); The Oatley's contains acetone and MEK which melts the ABS surface. I put glue on the coil surface, glue on the first bottom piece, clamped those together for 15 minutes. Then added the second piece on top, glued them together and clamped again for 15 minutes. Then I cut a couple of squares off of the sheet big enough for the ears(a little bigger than the original), I clamped them together and the shaped them on my belt sander copying the original. After shaping, then while still clamped, I drilled a pilot hole for the rod/shaft. I grounded off the remains of the coils original ear sides with my Dremel to make a flat surface to glue the ears onto. When gluing the ears to the sides, I placed the rod/shaft end with the rubber washers in between, as to not allow the clamp to cave inward. I glued and clamped the ears for 2 hours. After 2 hrs. I removed the clamp and let it cure overnight. Done! 10 times stronger than the original.
  24. Getting geared up for my beach hunting season. Not the usual sunny day morning clad hunts. I like to go behind big winter tides, preferably with a hefty sea ripping into the beach giving me some cuts to work. Pretty use to the Excal running in pinpoint mode and my SDC hunting with a SAT. Trying to figure out how I can fool a NOX 800 into thinking its an Excal. The Nox 800 has allready given me some gold in Beach 1 and pretty basic settings, just curious if I can really get her to Hunt in pinpoint mode with a SAT.
