  1. Today out hunting, the detector started acting up. Chattery and unsteady like when in extreme EMI. No adjustment to settings made much difference. While shutting it off to leave it was noticed that the battery had almost no charge at all left. What a maroon. It is all too easy to forget about the battery when it lasts so long. Don’t be a maroon like some people.
  2. Let me start this off... Cliff if i miss speak please correct me. I have to say i was impressed with the Deus on wet sand. It got a bit more depth on some of the gold rings we tested. These werent methodical tests.... drop a ring in a 14" hole and see what happens. Cliff is also in the learning process..... but it helps hes a VERY good hunter and no matter the machine he knows a weak target others might miss. Build wise.... he bought the new upper shaft which is longer and stablized the lower from flexing in the water. So the shaft seems pretty good even for water hunting. He put the antenna cable inside the shaft..... nice. He was using Tony Eisenhower phones.... which he had to turn down the volume on. I did NOT swing the machine thou he offered. I was more interested in seeing how it did.... ill save using it for another day.... when hes got it really dialed in lol. Is still like to see those coil ears moved more toward the center of the coil to reduce coil flip, ear wear, balance, and breakage from leaning on it. The way the shaft is made it appears more contact can be made by the locks. Clearly the Deus will get equal to of a bit better depth on the wet sand than the MDT.... thats saying something since the Nox fell a little short. Thou again hes still in the learning phase and we were basicly air testing by dropping targets in a hole. Some machines dont do well using this method. The Deus CAN noise cancel out the MDT and didnt appear to create silent EMI like the Nox did reducing depth. So we really never had to move the machines very far away when checking targets. Right off the bat i hit a couple of targets he didnt find..... turned out to be deep can slaw. He adjusted his disc setting and that fixed that. We hit one target fairly deep with a mixed signal which we both thought maybe bottle cap.... turned out to be a silver toe ring with a large piece of iron under it. Targets were really just not there either. I intentionally brought 3 targets, small chain, tiny cross, and hollow gold earring. These were found with the Nox using the 40khz gold program in a volleyball course. As expected the Deus nor the MDT hit those setting on top of that wet sand. My impression is the Deus is a very capable machine and quieter than the Nox in the water. Build is a better than i expected thou time will tell. Based on some of the comments thou they still need to make some updates. With any multi use machine thou you really need to test a lot ..... water, wet ... then dry sand and make those tweaks. If you dont.... the the term "you dont know what you dont know" applies. You just wont know if you have it dialed in.... and right now everyone is in a learning curve or should be. A skilled hunter as we say can find gold with a stick..... so considering ive done my testing, have time on my machine, and have it dialed the way i like it. The Deus impressed.... and id say can do even better. AND no ive still not got one on order....lol. I like the MDTs simplicity. Make no mistake ..... buying a great machine doesnt make you great.... ya have to put in the time. As i say.... never sell a new machine until you have payed for it in finds... by then you have a pretty good idea if it suits you. the warranty duration is considerably longer than the MDT. However…. The way it’s written to me is some concern. as a water hunter. No good having if for some reason it floods and they opt not to replace it. Hopefully they will be as responsive as ML. Seems pretty water tight thou so hopefully it will never be an issue.

    Threshold

I am still unclear what threshold does on this machine, and what it actually changes in terms of signal quality and machine response to target. It does not seem to act in the way I understand the term so I am unsure how to actually use it to make the MDT do what I want it to do. That seems true in some of the other controls too, everything is a little different, but they are easier to see the result of in real time. Can anyone make sense of this for me in real terms?
  4. I have been testing the salt balance and KHZ on a small gold 14 k ring and a merc dime and a regular white gold ring and some tabs and various foils , and today i took the Tarsacci out to a high school base ball diamond , loaded with foils most of the coins i found had long been in the ground, and i even found a 7" deep 1944 wheat cent , I managed to dig one foil seen in picture, it was 1" deep , but the thing i like about the Tarsacci is it sees thru the foils and hits coins below the foils that you can not hear , yes silent on the foil in the surface and hitting a coin below it . I can not do that with my ORX .If i get a foil signal of 34 and a coin in 2" under it it still comes in at 32 or is masked , i would have to dig the foil but with the Tarsacci the foils are gone and its just seeing thru them and hitting the coins my settings 3 gain and 0 threshold , 44 salt balance, black sand on . and i even cranked it up to 5 gain, and still no digging foils , at 6 gain you may have to introduce a -1 threshold to knock out the foils but its hitting deep on high conductors and 6" to 9" on rings
  5. showing my tarsacci foils settings, and how it can detect a 14 k ring under foils , Normally if you had disc on foils you can not hit another target under it but the Tarsacci can . and can be used to great effect in those foils laden sites
  6. thanks fellow diggers, Today i was looking for Gold with the Tarsacci- i worked on some settings for it. and came up with a setting for finding Gold rings wich ignors small foils and yet hits hard on small gold rings, as deep as 8 inches deep , and gets normal size Gold at 8 and 9 inches deep . when i was working out the settings i found the pull tabs where coming in 2 inches deeper than the Gold Rings so i found the sweat spot that actually dropped the depth of the pull tabs and increased the depth of the gold rings so that they now are both comming in at the same depth, this is the setting on the Tarsacci i used for todays hunt , of course i found no Gold but just tabs and some larger can slaw but the small foils Gone , and in a school basseball field that is a big deal , now the tarsacci will not just be silent on the small foils , it will see right thrue then and hit a gold ring and i mean way below the foil Tarsacci Gold ring setting 5 gain, threshold -1 to -3 black sand on , salt balance 47, and using 18khz , and by the way, please share your setting for finding Gold rings.

    Headphones?

What does anyone like for Tarsacci Headphones for wading? It would seem simple connection waterproofing of stock headphones would be enough for general purpose, but not available. Sent a message to Dimitar asking if he did these, no answer. Taking that as a no, is there a cost effective way to waterproof the connection? Electrical tape comes to mind. Is a very small mind. Any thoughts?
  8. I've had an interest in the Tarsacci for a while now, not enough of an interest to want one but more so an interest in what it's capable of. We have some of the worst or best depending on how you look at it black sand beaches in the World in New Zealand. I stumbled across a video of a person using their Tarsacci on a black sand beach near New Plymouth on the North Island. New Plymouth is right under Mount Taranaki which is an active volcano and is a source of the black sand on New Zealand's North Island's west coast beaches. Some information on the beaches from a government website Scientists like Dr Hume can trace the origins of sand from the different proportions of minerals it contains. The snowy white sands of Parengarenga in Northland, for instance, are formed from quartz; while the golden sands of Golden Bay get their colour from the weathered iron (iron oxide) in granite. The black sand found on the west coast of the North Island, is made of titanomagnetite – a mixture of titanium and iron. This soft material comes from Mount Taranaki and is swept up the coast as far as North Cape – a distance of about 400 km – ground into rounder and finer grains as it goes. “This is the biggest journey of sand anywhere in New Zealand, probably taking hundreds or thousands of years” says Dr Hume. “The sand is moved along this coastal highway by the prevailing waves that drive north from the southern ocean, stopped by headlands – ‘temporary carparks’ – along the way. The big sandpit at the end is Pandora Banks, a series of shoals off North Cape.” Waves do most of the work moving sand; tidal currents do very little. Wherever there’s white water, sand is being bounced along the seabed. As any surfer will know, the wave energy on the west coast is very high, so it winnows out the less dense (and lighter-coloured) quartz and feldspar sands, leaving the denser black ironsand behind. Sand can travel thousands of kilometres over time. But how long does it take to make sand from rock or shell? This depends on the type and hardness of rock (or shell), and how fast it’s broken down by weathering in the soil and during its transport by rivers to the sea. “Hard minerals like feldspar and quartz – the source of creamy coloured sand on many beaches north of Auckland and in the Bay of Plenty – take thousands of years to get ground down to sand. Shells are much softer and may only take tens or hundreds of years,” says Dr Hume. “On some beaches, shell is the primary source of sand,” says Dr Hume. “Overharvesting of pipis and cockles in harbours and estuaries can mean sand is in short supply.” On the other hand, the invasion of the hard-shelled Pacific oyster in the Manukau Harbour has converted some sandy beaches to shelly beaches, because Pacific oyster shells take longer to wear down than the shells of native shellfish. You can see there are many types of sand that give beaches around the country their characteristic appearances and feel. So next time you are on the beach, take a closer look at the sand and ponder its origins. Here is her video. The interesting thing about this detector is they claim they've made an 11x9 inch "NZ Coil", a coil specifically made for detecting on NZ's black sand beaches, this is it for sale at our local Tarsacci dealer. https://www.dredgenz.co.nz/product/11x9-inch-tarsacci-nz-coil/ While this New Plymouth beach she's at is a black sand beach, it's not one of the really black beaches like these in the photos below, both are further up the North Island from where she's detecting. I wonder how it goes on them. I'm yet to find a video of it being used on a really heavy black sand beach.
  9. Shouldn't you consider a Tarscassi too? The prices are close. I imagine the performance is close.
  10. Sanded in is really a challenge. Everyone and all machines coming in with low finds. On the other hand someone gets a little luck once in a while. It was my turn the other day. Tarsacci got its first Gold the other day. Just 3.3 grams 14k id tag off a bracelet. Humble as it is it sure felt good. Numbered +03 - +04. No minus numbers. I've been hunting in All metal for the most part. On this beach 9 Frec and lower quiets the machine way down.
  11. i found a bunch of Gold ring s white gold , yellow gold ,small and large, from 12k to 14 k on the tarsacci i got a lot of bouncing around on the numbers in 6.5khz and almost non at 18khz most of the rings come in at 04--05-06-07-08 anyone noticed that as well ?
  12. I finally had a chance to get out with the MDT 8000 again this afternoon. I hunted a different area that is not so heavily iron littered. This was my first chance to run Mixed mode for any length of time. It is much more dynamic & telling than straight Disc mode. I was able to call the big iron & small trash just fine. Dug some nice period targets including an unusual Flat button in very good condition. It is classed as a Patriotic/Political button in Albert's book; PC106A. A pretty neat find for around here. Still learning the MDT & playing with Ground balance & Salt balance. Today was 12kHz, Sens 6-7, TH -3, Disc +30. Not clean ground by any means but only 1-2 nails per sweep instead of a half dozen. This is sticky Red clay with plenty of natural Iron oxide, GB in the high 800's to mid 900's.
  13. What settings does everyone else use under the big electrical wires. The tarsacci wasn’t bad with interference as the deus was in the same area. But I put the black sand on to get it to quiet down some. Would I be missing targets with these settings?
  14. Again the tarsacci finds the deep brass today in a colonial site. Love the machine. Old stuff including a thimble at about 15 inches down. Having an issue with the pinpoint button sticking though. Anyone else have this issue??
  15. This video may answer a few questions for those interested in the TARSACCI and even for those who already own one…. HH! Aaron
  16. I am in a spot i have gone over at least 5 times with the ORX, and the ground went silent. Dont think I dont like the ORX, when i go to the park and sports field you cant beat it .But like i say when i got to the site today I took some advice from a guy who said put the Disc at between 27-and 30 so i set it at 29 and i just was amazed that the ground just lit up . things at 9 inches no problem good signals and deeper . my settings used are . 6.4 khz in mix mode, gain of 7 and 0 threshold, black sand mode on and salt balance at 43, and this machine just starts devouring the ground , I spent my stimulus money on it and dont regret doing so as its made in U,S,A and it went to help an American citizen. the thing with holes in it was 18 inches deep and i left more in the hole. i was tired of digging deep holes for the day . and i forgot to say i was not digging as many nail false s. so what that guy said must be working

  18. Got back to the old homestead i have been hunting, and by far the thing i find the most of is shot gun shells, in fact i found a cash of of them buried about 9" deep , I think a red squirrel buried them must have been 15 of them , but today I went over the same spot the ORX went over and just kept finding targets, . I keep digging some nails, because i find so few good targets like silver coins i really do not know the difference from a nail false, and a silver coin so i have dug my share of rug pullers, but the Indian did have a better sound and higher numbers 14-17 and i found it by rechecking a hole the ORX found one in I am using 6.5 khz and 7 gain and 0 threshold and it will hit with a good signal in air a dime at 11 inches so its got some power . the Indian looks like someone went after it with a sharp punch of some kind, otherwise it was in extra fine condition
  19. What i have found out is the Tarsacci out performs my ORX in ground littered with trash, and in depth of detection, I buried a penny only 7 inches deep and the orx could not hit that penny ,du to small bits of iron and other metal in the ground , the Tarsacci pounded that penny, and i have done this test in two different spots, its noticeable very much so . and today i found a spoon at a solid 14 inches deep . but i would say my ORX is better at i,d, on iron and bottle caps also today i got a false on a 7" bread tie using the Tarsacci. but over all the TAR has power and you know it and it delivers
  20. Hunted my favorite park this afternoon for about an hour. After about 15 minutes I got a good hit swinging the MDT slower than usual. If I swing faster I don’t hear the target. Vdi was a 12-14 sometimes a 7, as I swept the coil towards the bottom of the hole swinging side to side the Vdi got higher 22-24. Down at 7 inches I pulled up a dateless buffalo nickel. That was the only coin found. Dug 11 holes, 8 were iron, 1 cut up aluninum from a can, 1 piece of aluminum from a small screw in bulb. Also dug up half of a key fob from Golden Nugget not deep and a fleur-de-lis pin it was an eyeball find from the iron infested site. Infested site ground balanced at 845 due to decayed iron in ground. park settings: sens 9, threshold-2, disc 0, blacksand ON, infested site: sens 6, threshold-2, disc 0, blacksand ON. Denny
  21. Over on the Tarsacci forum a lot of us have been expressing the need for a smaller coil. Some say they want a round coil of different sizes from 4” to 7” but I’m the one who’s throwing a pipe in the spokes. I’m wanting a elliptical coil say around a 10 X 5” that I think gives you more ground coverage on each swing. We’ve been told that the powers that be is thinking about coming out with one. That’s the rumor and right now that’s all it is . I just think any detector can’t show it’s full potential if held back because of lack of coils. Chuck
  22. We all know that if you put the Tarsacci down on the ground with the coil flat it’s not going to fall over. I don’t know if you notice when you do put it down right below the hand grip can hit the ground. We spend lots on our detectors and I like protecting my investment. I’ve made other stands for other detectors I have so why not my Tarsacci. The best material for them is 1/2” Hot Water PVC pipe. Here’s what you going to need. One PVC T 4-45 degree joints 3 -end caps About 6” of 1/2” PVC Just remember everything is 1/2” You will need cleaner and glue. I always use the clear glue. I didn’t want the stand too wide so I cut off about 3/16 off each side of the T and the same on two of the 45’s. I done this so to narrow the stand so not to hit you when swinging. I hope all the pictures will help if you wish to make one. The black paint is the type that will stick to any surface. Chuck
  23. I’ve been wanting to use the pig tail that comes with my Tarsacci but at the same time I wanted the new Sun Ray Pro Gold headphones to go with it. I just like being able to unplug from my Tarsacci anytime I want. The headphones have a universal plug that the 1/4” screws down over the 1/8” making it two plugs in one so to say. It also has a volume control for each ear that helps me a lot being the hearing in my right ear is not as good as the other. If you’re wondering why it’s called a pig tail because it’s short like one. One important thing you need to do is anchor the pig tail down to the shaft so not to be pulling directly on it . If you don’t it’s going to take a beating and not last long at all. You can see in the picture below how I fixed that .The last picture as you can see is with the headphones plugged in. Chuck PS The headphones came from Rob’s detectors .
  24. It may be others? You can take a Tarsacci out of the box new and just put it on discrimination and then set it on two 10 pound weights then start detecting. I just wanted to see just how good the discrimination was on the Tarsacci. I ran different gold rings across the coil from small to a large ones. I also tested some gold nuggets of different weights and the beast coil had no trouble detecting with good depth. When I sat the coil on the weights my thinking was this may cause some kind of overload but the Tarsacci never faltered. A lot of you may have known you could do this with a Tarsacci but I didn’t. I guess you could say I’m a new kid on the block with the Tarsacci. I just like running various test on a detector and in the case of the Tarsacci being it’s new to me. When I get out this fall I hope to find myself in gold country and even if I can’t get that small coil I’ve been wanting for my Tarsacci I’ll take it anyway. I’ll give the beast coil a run being nobody has come on here expressing their opinion of it in the gold fields. Chuck
  25. Dimitar I’ve been swinging a detector a lot longer than you are old and built my first detector from a kit in 65 . I made my introduction so you know you’re not dealing with some new kid on the block. I’ve been posting the need for a lot smaller coil than you make at this time. Your new 12” coil is truly a great as called a beast and on the beach are in a low trash it’s outstanding. I found out long ago a small coil in a high trash area will out shine any large coil. Aaron made a statement that you don’t see the need of a small coil anytime soon. I’m hopeful that I can change your mind are maybe your thinking that you do have need of a smaller coil. At one time all coils was round with the small ones was 5 are 6” until the elliptical come into play. It’s been found that the elliptical coil does have better separation with the tip able to reach in a tight place a round coil can’t get. I’ve been asking for a 10 X 5” coil and I’ll explain why I ask for this size coil. If you go to a wider coil you still get too many targets under it . The length is there to cover more ground in one swing is why I ask for 10” long. That narrow nose will get In places you never could before. I can’t promise you that you will sell a large amount of coils and like you did when you made the Tarsacci you gamble. I do believe it will expand the use of the Tarsacci and in turn increase your sales. I myself had different business over the years and I didn’t do it for my health. This will be my last time to ask you for another coil. I have other detectors that I have elliptical coils The only reason I keep knocking at your door because it could make a great detector even greater. I hope what I’ve said here will be past on to you if you don’t read it yourself. The Best To You! Chuck
