If the fragment was shallow, I would get a brief iron buzz along with the higher tone. Then I would lift the coil. If I kept getting the high tone up to two feet, I dug it. Great tip. PI-Man
Nothing wrong with digging big iron — down here if you just target reales you will miss out on ship spikes, etc. hate to leave something good in the ground/sand. Some detectors when it comes to iron will give you the wrap around effect and vice versa on high conductors at top of the detectors ID scales. When in doubt dig it! Steve Andrews
Using a modded Diving program, this canister shot was in the 70s while in its concretion, but a steady 3 when broken out. I think this because of the iron content that has leached into the concretion, creating a target with a bigger volume.
Carolina
Steve, do you mind telling what state you are in ? Is it lead or steel shot ? Nice save !
Steve Andrews
Hi Carolina, I'm in Jersey, Channel Islands. It's a British island which is 14 miles from the French coast. This shot is iron.

Steve Andrews
This WW2 3.7cm Pak was an 84, with what I'd call "ironish hum" around it. The Deus II gives you so much information from the audio.
