I’m looking for the link, video, or any other information about the guy that was talking the chip out of CTX coils and making an in line chip so you can use different coils on CTX.  I ran the CTX for over 3 years and killed it. I sold my CTX because it also killed my right hip. Total hip replacement at 49 years old. I’m thinking about getting another CTX and modifying it to ultralight weight. Another thing that would make sense is use of aftermarket FBS coils on CTX. Thanks for your help.

I tried to contact the guy but he wanted me to contact him in messenger or instagram and I never got a reply. I removed the board from two bad coils for use for this but haven’t done anything cause I traded off all my coils!  Need mainly a lighter coil as I don’t think a cf shaft will make much difference. I use a harness but the coil mass is still an issue as I walk and swing fast.

I can get the weight off,I promise. I’ve got several machines down pretty low . Check out my light weight sovereign it’s a real low 3lbs with a meter and can remove a little more I’m sure I can get it to a high 2lbs. I shave and cut off anything that is not needed . Turn knobs down on lathe use aircraft titanium/aluminum fasteners . A gram here gram there adds up really quick. My sovereign swings better than my manticore with any size coil on it. I race wing  sprint cars and removing weight comes natural. Can you get me the contact information the inline chip deal is what I’m interested in. Removing weight is easy. Thanks

You’ve still got that 11” or larger coil on the end of a stick that has more mass than the Manticore version of it, right? My issue is the swing mass. The m8 on the Manticore solves it. To be honest I have a 6” for the CtX but haven’t tried it. Reports of its performance were not as positive as the m8 ones. What do you think?

I never knew there was an 8" for the CTX. I have a 6" and it is great but just does not cover much ground. I normally hunt with the 5X10 Coiltek

I had a video somewhere... from a test of Aka Intronik, Manticore, and CTX 3030 with a modified 18" coiltec coil from Etrac.. so maybe we'll get something..

I also saw the video with the Russian who modified the coils.. from Etrac to CTX...

Another thing... CTX is a technically beautiful and well-designed machine... a combination of a nice and waterproof and durable plastic and carbon construction, a large lady with a large color display, and a large lithium battery in the back... the only drawback is the greater weight due to such a solid construction, even though with an 11" coil this machine is perfectly balanced... but the weight of the detector is still noticeable..

that's why all new detectors nowadays have a very simple, compact and minimalist design to save as much as possible on the weight of the detector..

The CTX coil itself is not essential heavier than the Etrac coil...
and if Minelab made a new 9" coil for the CTX in the style of the M9 Manticore..it would definitely sell very well...

I'll try to find those videos and post them here..

I suspend my CTX with a hip stick like I do my 7000.  It 'hangs' from a bungee wrapped around the handle/screen.  The screen still provides the coordinates which are unique to any detector.  It is a visual that gives a lot of info.  It is the closest thing to 'visual sound' discrimination I've seen on a detector.  Everything else is less detailed.
