  1. Past hour
  2. Absolutely agree, it was an impressive platform to start with, and keeps getting better at a fast clip, something I was not expecting when it showed up.
  3. I am so happy to reading these pages again, gives me something to do at work. When the last ended, I was just going to quit.
  4. I seem to “understand” the 24k now, now I just have to learn what I understand. Very nice machine even though I am not using it to its full potential. I guess when I make my trips west, we’ll see what happens. But for out here in the east, I have picked up a few, what some call junk, I call relic’s (history). It just another machine I’m having fun figuring out. Thanks all.
  5. @phrunt, It would be nice (and good marketing) if Algoforce could/would make the unit adaptable for relic type hunting in both Europe & USA type conditions. Hint..Hint🙂
  6. What are you talking about George? I own this forum and no manufacturer sponsors or is involved in it at all except as possibly being members, just like you. Only myself and the two mods, phrunt and Chase Goldman can remove posts. You can't even remove your own posts entirely without us being involved. Edit yes, remove, no. I specifically refuse offers of forum sponsorship to be sure this forum is free of insinuations of possible interference by said sponsors. The forum self funds via Google Ads. Adding in the fact I am well set in life and remarkably obsitinate means attempts to pressure me are almost guarenteed to backfire. More specifically, was there a post or posts you are referring to that were there and that you now can't find? On the other hand nobody should ever assume that posts or entire threads may not go away for various reasons. Nothing is forever and even something as mundane as a database failure can cause posts to be lost. If a member is banned and I decide to delete all their content, anyone that posted on any thread they started may lose posts in the process. Anything remotely off topic tends to go away immediately or later on, like birthday wishes and holiday greetings. Gone a few months later.

  8. I have a Laser Trident 2 Extreme in my collection, not one of my wisest moves i must admit, its in mint condition and only used it maybe twice, wont ever part with it though....they occasionally do come on the market but when they do folks tend to buy them quickly, maybe to use on the Thames for mudlarking......Nothing special about them that i can see.
  9. Especially for people with hearing difficulties from either age or just having a hearing problem, it's well known with age higher frequencies become difficult to hear, so likely an improvement for a lot of people. The finer threshold adjustment is the big one for me on this firmware, but every new change was a really good one with this update. Another update is already in the works which I'm very much looking forward to and has a feature I've requested to benefit me but I'm sure many others will appreciate it too, I'm fortunate that I get to try out these updates prior to release. The great thing is many of the updates are "user requests" and they've been very responsive to that. They're not so much bug fixes, they're improvements customers have asked for and to me, that's really cool. It's great with Algoforce you can contact them and speak directly to the engineer.
  10. As far as I am aware that is exactly where Minelab came from in the first place, someone's garage. D4G
  11. Admittedly, I've always said that it's impossible for induction balance to differentiate between aluminum and gold. I was just kind of hoping that Garrett found a way to at least increase the odds with some new technology. Right now, the odds are effectively 0%. Somehow raising that to even 30% would be a breakthrough. Oh well. The sound based system sounds intriguing. Will probably drive dogs nuts though lol. Extreme power requirements? Phhht! Nuclear batteries to the rescue! Most of my gold is found in the water and even that has diminished significantly. BUT, there is plenty of gold in parks, playgrounds, sport's fields, etc. Due to the aluminum trash though, it's not worth the time and body damage to pursue that gold. If we had a detector that could do that? Well Woo Hoo!
  12. It is impossible to tell gold from aluminum based on conductivity/phase shift/eddy current retention. What you dream of is impossible for the underlying tech, either induction balance or pulse induction or a hybrid of both. A sound based system (think fishfinder sonar tech, gpr, etc) working off item density would possibly do the trick, but power requirements are extreme and useability is an issue as far as target interpretation. Not impossible though as battery tech and target analysis techniques improve, but I sure would not be holding my breath at all yet on that one.
  13. Ya probably. I guess my dreams of never having to dig up aluminum trash again are dashed!
  14. yes, their response is always I think you will be happy! 🙂 or something similar. They're being careful with the " I think "
  15. No, they are saying nothing and letting people hear what they want to hear.
  16. I agree. Just be as good as the others, with maybe some useful graphics and maybe longer battery life and I’m in.
  17. I'm guessing, as long as the tech is equal, and the price is below the competition, they will sell many. Hoping for new break through tech is a lot to expect, and probably not going to happen. It's nice to dream though. I'd like Garrett to succeed, but I think they need a lesson in marketing. Either way, the frustration will fade eventually.
  18. I saw those posts from Garrett that insinuated that their new detector is better than the best out there. That's what really got me and many others hyped up. Like myself and others have said though...if they really had something ground breaking, they would have said so by now.
  19. Better just doesn't have to be performance, they need to be competitive with the top detectors for performance, but better can be a better design, nicer control pod, better balance better coil choices, better battery life and so on. They may well be better with their Pod judging by the Apex but The Manticore tops the pops with its full colour easy to navigate menus, I'd prefer the Apex shape pod and screen size though with the Manticore full colour design. I prefer all front buttons, nothing on the sides. A nice loud speaker, the list goes on fingers crossed!
  20. The Audio Treble control seems like a nice feature.
  21. Yeah, in the end it has people talking and if the product is good it is all forgotten in the long run. I do think making something much better than what is out there now however sets a rather unattainable bar as we are hitting the limits of the technology in many ways. Simply being part of the discussion when the other top players are being discussed would be a more realistic goal, as right now when top detectors are discussed, the name Garrett never comes up. That's what this new model needs to do, at least be in the running with the other big dogs. That would be my hope for the Garrett Storm, that it is seen as a realistic alternative to the other top performers, nothing more perhaps, but also nothing less.
  22. Probably me too, but the fact remains if it's not better than what's out there, it's going to go quite badly for them in terms of PR. This is their make it or break it moment for VLF's. They either remain the Garrett that just fans use, or they become a competitive player in the market again. I hope they nail it, but I have my doubts too.
  23. Now they are saying more info coming next week. But what are “sign up details?”
  24. That's really impressive how responsive they are to fixing and improving things. This is what I think a lot of us envisioned would be happening when the GPZ was first released with a USB port conceivably for updates. If only they'd come to the US.... I just checked and the FCC still doesn't even have an Algoforce company registration, let alone any products in the pipeline to be tested. Unless they go by some other name.
  25. It's obvious people are very angry at Garrett right now, but if Garrett does have a detector that is much better than what's out there now, the angered people will still buy it...including me!😁
