  1. I have used Bluetooth with metal detectors and was fine with it. Obviously it works. The delay is just something that really puts some people off. Others, like me I guess, adjust to the delay, which is measured in milliseconds. When you say it is "not good enough" Shelton you leave out the "for me". The world is not black and white and it depends on the exact application and person as to what audio solution might be acceptable.
  2. Just some of the embeds you can post: College Humor Facebook Flickr Gfycat Google+ Hulu Instagram SoundCloud Spotify Ted Twitter Vimeo Vine YouTube codepen.io coub.com deviantart.com docs.com funnyordie.com gettyimages.com iFixit.com kickstarter.com meetup.com mixcloud.com mix.office.com on.aol.com reddit.com reverbnation.com screencast.com screenr.com slideshare.net smugmug.com ustream.tv Google Maps
  3. I just did the latest update to the forum. There have been a lot of new "embeds" added. This is where you copy a link from another website, and the forum automatically includes the linked item into the post. YouTube is the one you are most familiar with, but the forum supports many more, like Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, etc. One that might be particularly useful on the forum is Google Maps integration. Find a location in Google Maps, copy the link, and paste into the post. I did it for the Reno Events Center, and here is what you get....
  4. Yes, you would need the SDC 2300 headphone adapter. That being the case the Minelab Pro-Sonic has an advantage for SDC owners by including an adapter for the SDC 2300.
  5. I would say the feeling that metal detector manufacturers are not listening to high end users is a common one. For instance, desert prospectors keep getting offered heavy overpriced metal detectors that are waterproof. Because everyone that hunts in the desert needs a waterproof detector. I have been metal detecting going on 45 years - no reason to wait. If they never come out with another new detector ever I am well outfitted with what exists now. It is just that everyone always wants something new and better. It also gives detector nerds something to discuss on forums when the weather sucks!
  6. Yeah, for $127.45 it looks like this is the one for me. Compact, works with any detector, 30 hour run time, low price - what's not to like? Several dealer websites list them but no word on availability yet.
  7. They have a fix for sure because properly operating units do not have that problem. Mine does not. Keep on them until you get it repaired under warranty.
  8. Nice, rounded, solid slugs of gold - and in the snow no less!
  9. The idea of crowd sourcing a detector is intriguing. The first hurdle is coming up with something everyone can agree on enough to attract the money, but the real problem of course is turning wishes into reality. Most detectors are just old ideas in new boxes. To be truly new, truly different, requires access to patentable ideas from brilliant engineers. And as we have all seen making those brilliant ideas actually work is a difficult project indeed. The reality for me personally is I am not a techie and am far more interested in using detectors then making them. I still have to finish a simple detector mod I started and never finished a couple years ago! The good news is I think we will see all the stuff we want anyway in the next couple years. If not from White's then somebody else.
  10. I believe that is true Carl. Garrett hints at as much in their Searchcoil Tech Sheet: Technically then an Infinium or ATX mono coil is not really a mono coil as normally defined for PI detectors, where a single loop alternates between transmit (TX) and receive (RX) phases. But not really a DD coil either.
  11. Only Infinium coils will work properly on the the Infinium.
  12. From Minelab just now: We are excited to announce the release of our new PRO-SONIC Wireless Audio System, which is available to order now from our Australian dealers, and will be available in other regions from January 2017 onwards! Showing as in stock at Miners Den for AUS$399.00 ($269 at U.S. dealers)
  13. Whoever did the video knows detectors and knows exactly why people like me want the V4 update. The video really nails it.
  14. Jack's videos were some of the earliest and best on the subject not only of metal detecting but prospecting in general. I have the original four videos but I see there are now two more for a six volume set. Has anyone seen the last two volumes? http://goldhunterdetectors.com.au/videos-and-training-material/
  15. I saw this over at Tom's and laughed my posterior off! This is not new - it refers to the delay announced back in September. At that time is was said "A test phase will take place in October and November 2016, and then, we will be able to announce a launch date." Well, I have not heard anything since and December is almost over, so this video really rings a bell with me. I admit recently I was thinking I should just sell the stupid thing, since the only reason I really got my Deus over a year ago was to try the V4 update! DO NOT WATCH THIS IF YOU ARE OFFENDED BY LOTS, AND I MEAN LOTS OF PROFANITY!!!!!
  16. I think we can all agree that Garrett has been very effective in marketing their product in the last decade. Much of the credit goes to Garrett Director of Marketing Steve Moore, in that position since 2006. I have never met Steve but have communicated with him over the years. Steve comes to his interest in metal detectors by way of history. He is a very accomplished author with eighteen titles to his credit under his full name, Stephen L. Moore. As a sixth generation Texan he has a focus on Texas history and also World War 2 history. He has two titles about metal detecting in particular, Relic Quest and European Metal Detecting Guide. You can find all his titles online at Amazon in case you are looking for a last minute gift. 2013 Interview With Steve Moore of Garrett Electronics Hobby, History and Humor by Stephen L. 17. Well Mike, if that is not a motivator for me I do not know what would be. I always enjoy your knowledgeable posts on jewelry detecting. I will have the new forums up and running in a couple days.
  18. There is a good deal for somebody Tom, along with some other refurbs, thanks for posting. As I said, I will not be looking at the MX Sport again unless a physical change is made to the unit to differentiate brand new machines from existing units on the market. I am glad to hear it is selling well for you guys - Merry Christmas!
  19. A modified version of the original post has been posted on Minelab's Treasure Talk blog.
  20. I admit to worrying about legions of kids getting turned loose on parks with detectors, most with no supervision. I doubt I need to worry much though as you will never pry most kids these days away from their video games and cell phones. Detecting requires patience and everything now is instant gratification. If I ever see another detectorist in a park it is always just another old fart like me.
  21. This forum is the prospecting forum - nothing changes in that regard. Though perhaps a Gold Panning, Sluicing, and Dredging Forum is possible. Like I said though, for people who like how things are now, just keep doing what you are doing. Nothing will really change on this forum and I expect it to continue on as is.
  22. There would be no additional log in requirements.
