  1. Agree, though Cabelas was willing to go “on the record” with a 29 January backorder date do I reckon that came directly from Minelab and is not inconsistent with ML’s public announcement or the info that was passed to dealers yesterday. I’m personally resigned to the indisputable fact that it will get here when it gets here. Lol.
  2. In dry sand, if I were trying to concentrate on picking up gold targets, I'd simply go to one of the Gold Modes or Park 2/Field 2 rather than either of the beach modes which ML states should be used primarily in wet salt sand or surf. Coming from Deus, battery should not be an issue at all. Dr. Tones was basically swinging an Equinox with a dead battery during his entire beach video, lol. And yes, the Deus HF coils may still have an advantage in some situations where 58 or even 74 khz can get the job done which is one of the reasons the Deus will stick around in my arsenal even after Equinox shows up. Deus users are finding those high frequencies are enabling some amazing relic recoveries in highly mineralized dirt. I am anxious to bake the two off in real world nightmare mineralization this spring.
  3. Took a closer look at the NEW quick start guide and noticed a menu setting/adjustment I hadn't seen before called "Iron Bias". 600 allows three step adjustments (0-3) while the 800 appears to allow 9 steps (0-9). The icon/brief description is across from the adjustable recovery speed setting on the guide on the bottom row. Can Steve or anyone else explain this setting? Thanks.
  4. Will be hard to get an exact answer at this point, but I think in very simplistic terms it is Multi Frequency in all 5 frequencies with the signal processing favoring the input from the 20 and 40 khz signals. A more in-depth discussion can be found in this thread:
  5. Got a message from Cabelas, backordered by Minelab until 29 January and they gave me the option to cancel so I did.
  6. He states up front he was using the new multifrequency (MF) algorithms for gold mode.
  7. Which mode (s) are you referring to? All the non-beach gold finding modes (Park/Field 2 and Gold) use higher weighted Multi IQ meaning favoring the higher frequencies which is more favorable to small gold detection. If you are referring to the both beach modes, then yeah, those are both low weighted and would not seem to be conducive to detecting small gold.
  8. Besides classes, does anyone have an idea how to use four wireless headsets connected to a single detector? Is this a solution looking for problem or are their practical uses?
  9. Not sure how minelab gets a better idea on Equinox demand when dealers are all over the map on whether they are requiring deposits. The deposit thing seems to be purely between the dealer and his customers. That being said, at least Bill gives his customers a choice and if everyone is on board with the ground rules from the get go, then you know what you are getting. Some dealers require the deposit up front, regardless with no choice to get on the "less privileged" list. The good news is that you can shop around and find a dealer that does business the way you want to do business, so it is good to have choices.
  10. You know who is not happy with this little game Minelab is playing. All in good fun.
  11. I take it both Beach Modes are still multifrequency only (i.e., no ability to select single frequency in beach mode unlike the other modes). Not that I would want to but...nice to have options. Aussie/UK spelling of "Artefacts" on the quick guide a nice touch. Nice for Steve and the rest "in the know" not to have to hold that one [secret] in any longer.
  12. Apt X is a low latency bluetooth industry spec licensed by Qualcomm. Minelab is not the only manufacturer of Apt X headphones, many manufacturers employ the licensed technology in their bluetooth products.
  13. Cabelas says it will be shipped directly from the manufacturer (Minelab). Don't know if they have something set up with them but if they jumped the gun and went live without syncing up with Minelab they are going to have some splaining to do. Lol.
  14. Got it. The thread was "Why would you want the Equinox" and not being a big water hunter put down what was important to me in response to Mark's original post. I think dedicated water hunters like you are going to have a blast with it and with the price point, not a big investment gambled if it doesn't earn it's "salt" as someone on here said. HH.
  15. Little confused (as I am usually). Got the impression from the way you worded your post I said something contradictory? Were you just commenting because I put interchangeable coils and WP headphones on the icing vs. cake list? Lol.
  16. Yeah, we talked about that in the "Dutch Dealer" thread. I decided to be the guinea pig lol. Wish it was an 800 though. I can always use a backup.
  17. I read it fine the first time. IMO the "extras" should go to the first ones on the preorder list not to those who are willing to donate an interest free loan for the privilege later to jump the preorder list. As long as everyone knew that was the way it was going to go down from the get go, fine. If the rules changed with the "extras" that's a little different. But like I said, either way it's business. If one is willing to do business in that manner, more power to them. Like I said, glad I don't have to worry about it, that's all.
  18. Glad I don't have to pay anyone to be on the short list. Guess I'm lucky and have a dealer who treats all his clients the same regardless. First come, first served and no paid claim jumping. Good to have options where money talks though, it's just business, I guess. Just a pet peeve, sorry for the rant.
  19. Game changing cake is: having the advantages of multifrequency WITH fast recovery. Killer combo. Now a detectorist can have it all (or at least mostly) at an insane price point. The icing: Relatively light weight (still 1lb more than the <2lb Deus so I will have to get used to that) Dunkable. Straight forward user interface Single and high frequency operation (Deus will still stick around though with 50 to 80 khz capability) Manual and Automatic Noise Cancelling 5 million different wireless options PLUS waterproof wired audio Small coil options
  20. Welcome "SOHN" - It's gonna get interesting real soon. You got here just in time.
  21. Can you point me to where you have found information on the difference between Beach 1 and Beach 2. I was under the mistaken impression that the machine was provided with 4 default modes and that you could save custom settings for an additional mode on each mode setting (Field 2, Beach 2 etc.) and you could modify the default ([Insert Mode Name] 1) as desired. I was not aware that both 1 and 2 variants of each of the modes would be preloaded. Thanks.
