  1. At least they weren't the small ones that keep falling through the scoop holes. That can be frustrating!
  2. Welcome Kyle, I'm curious to learn more about the Simplex and look forward to seeing some of the things that you have found with it.
  3. Congrats on the gold Mitchel! 5 rings in less than ideal conditions and when playing "cleanup" is pretty impressive.
  4. Thanks kac, I think I will only use the single frequencies in the fresh water environments. At the beach, if I use the Nox in the wet sand I use "beach" mode which only allows for multi-frequency.
  5. Congrats Seeker! 3 golds is impressive as are the silver coins, especially, from the dry sand.
  6. Thanks Mitchel, It's a bit crazy. Prior to this year I had really only found 2 gold neck chains. I have now found 4 this year along with 2 gold chain bracelets. Part of it is luck, part of it is learning my detectors a bit better and part of it is having the time to hunt more now that I am retired. I'm glad you liked the video. I hadn't done a detecting video in a couple of years but may do more in the future.
  7. Thanks Seeker, I did some more testing this afternoon with a couple of gold chains and rings. When hunting in 4khz I lost about 2"-3" in depth on gold jewelry. The Nox would detect that gold chain (sans pendant) at 3" as opposed to about 6" at 40khz. Looks like I will try to stay in 40khz at a reduced sensitivity to reduce the chatter. It was a fun hunt trying different modes and frequencies. I appreciate the advice you and others gave me. I will be digging far fewer bottlecaps in the future.
  8. Thanks Hermit, Yes, the chain is tri-colored with yellow, white and rose gold- same with the pendant. Really more striking than the video even shows. Seeing it hanging on the edge of the scoop in the sunlight was quite a thrill.
  9. Thanks to the good people on this forum I returned to one of my lakes with the intention of digging less than 100 bottle caps as I did last time. I found about 20 but I dug many that I had anticipated would be bottle caps but I just wanted to be sure. I hunted in "Park 2" and 40 khz for the start of the hunt and switched to my user profile (4khz) on suspected cap targets and the cap TID's almost always jumped up to "36-40" range. Eventually, I just left the detector at 4 khz because it was so smooth and quiet and I wouldn't have to keep switching back and forth. Targets really stood out when the coil passed over them and it made hunting so much more relaxing.. I was concerned that I might miss some low conductor targets at 4khz but I did still get 2 of them maybe because of their depth or size. I plan on doing more bench testing today to see if there are any drawbacks to hunting in 4khz. Fortunately, I got my GoPro camera to work and I captured a couple of exciting moments that I am able to now share. GL&HH!
  10. That's pretty sweet o.g. congrats! That will stand out in your collection.
  11. Congrats on the sweet gold ring and your success with the AQ detector OBN! The silver is impressive as well.
  12. Congrats on the gold! I have found white gold jewelry that seems to have patches of yellow gold in areas where there is wear- almost like yours does.
  13. I used to sell tokens and and other collectibles on-line. You probably have some pretty desirable pieces there.
  14. Congrats on your first 18K gold- that's a sweet one! I may have found 6 cell phones but all have been water logged and no longer working. Good job on the return of the phone!
  15. Yes, pretty rare for me to find anything above 18K and I only find a couple of 18K in a typical year. All these rings tested at 14K but the nugget ring was an oddity. I can see 2 solder joints on the sides of the ring like the bottom half of the ring was replaced. The bottom of the ring tests at 14K but the top of the ring acid tests at 10K.
  16. OMG DWD, KAC, Seeker and all! I just bench tested the Park 2 mode on some gold chains and other small gold. I also toyed with single frequency (40 khz) and was surprised at how well the detector responded. I had a great hunt but may have missed a gold chain by using Beach 1 mode. Like I mentioned, I usually hunt in Gold 2 mode which hits the gold chains pretty deep but the chattiness almost gives me a headache. The Beach 1 mode will hit my test chain at about 2" but the Park 2 mode sees it at 4"-5". The single frequency 40 khz setting really smoothed out the tone too. I also practiced the Park 2 mode on some of the bottle caps I found. They still sound good and give a solid TID when the bottlecap is centered under the middle of the coil but the TIDs are more negative when the target is near the edge of the coil which is what I think you guys already know and are kind enough to share with me. Thanks again all! I can't wait to go back to this same spot and try out these new settings. GL&HH!
  17. Thanks GL, The larger "nugget" ring has a "17" TID number. The medium sized amethyst ring is a solid "13" and the small child's ring is a "5".
  18. You are welcome Joe, I'm hoping that it will be easier for me to hunt behind myself as well!
  19. Thanks GB, I had about 20 pulltabs/parts of pulltabs and 4 or 5 aluminum screw caps. I think the reason I found so many bottlecaps is because I've hunted this spot many times and in the past I was able to discriminate those caps out with my other detector. I'm still trying different modes on the Nox so on this hunt I dug a lot of iffy targets so as not to miss anything good.
  20. Thanks Aaron, about 9 hours in the water. I had problems with the GoPro again but I think I have enough "film" to put something together.
  21. Thanks o.g., Well, if alligators are around I would imagine not many people are swimming anyway- I know I wouldn't be! 😬
  22. Thanks Seeker, I'm not necessarily looking for earring studs but I definitely am trying to find more gold chains. I'll have to try that single frequency mode out and play with the recovery speed.
  23. Thanks kac, I will definitely look into trying to minimize the number of bottle caps next time. A strong magnet probably could save some digging as well.
