  1. I use the Tesoro Tejon with 9x8 concentric coil. I pick up on tiny earrings and pieces pretty deep. Foster grant nickel silver label 8" down, earing posts at the beach 4-5" down and they come in really loud and clear. I don't think their concentric coil would perform the same. Many like the Vequero model but that has a lower khz than the Tejon and the Tejon has a double discrim circuit. Basic operation for hunting if there is little or no trash run all metal mode on dic1 If it picks up on iron and can slaw then kick it up till the trash just scratches out. Set disc 2 for pull tab. If you hear a target that sounds nice and smooth (most trash is harsh and obnoxious) flick the trigger forward and if it still rings it is a in the copper to silver range. If it cuts out you can either just dig it or roll the bottom disc 1 until it scratches. and if it is between lines of nickel dig it. Nickels fall dead on in the middle of those 2 lines, bottom line can be jewelry but most likely pull tab end or large foil, upper line almost always a square tab. You will get used to the sounds and know the subtle difference between junk and a good target. I recently picked up a big ring that seems to be white gold that was in the pull tab range and probably would have skipped digging it on a vdi machine as it is dead on the square tabs. Signal on that was really clean. Keep in mind that Tesoro seems to be out of business but rumors (soon to be legend) they may come back which I doubt. I started on a Bounty Hunter way back in the 90's and only real beef is it had no ground balance control and the hard wired coil which was too small to get any worthy depth. Most of the stuff I found with it was more because I happened to be looking down ?
  2. I'll have to get a test kit. I really doubt it's platinum where it is loaded with cz's and no mm on it. I know it isn't stainless as I have plenty of stainless here and none hit that high on the vdi. Thanks
  3. I know it isn't aluminum and certainly not stainless or titanium and being in the salt it hasn't corroded or have any patina on it. How do you test an metal like this? I just took a guess that it may be white gold based off my vdi that isn't that far off but definitely not a certain test. Other guess is white gold is not that expensive and would put this ring based on it's weight and those flashy cz's under $200.
  4. Sometimes just a larger coil will get you where you want to go without breaking the bank. Nel big gets me to 18" or so and I had looked at the TDI and other machines and thinking as how good they might be, digging trash weighs heavier on my decision than swinging a 3lb coil once in a while. Majority of people that detect don't methodically make good passes on an area, have their gb out of whack and use stock coils. They tend to miss more than you realize. Last weeked was over a dozen guys out at the local beach and I thought they picked it dry with their pi's noktas and all the other machines they had. Many really good machines and in less than a 100 foot section I came up with a few bucks in nickels, quarters, dimes, couple pennies and a white gold ring. Right where their snail trails were and this was with my Tejon that isn't even a beach machine. I am not saying the Tejon is a better machine in those conditions, not in a long shot, just saying they were really sloppy. Supposedly the Blisstool Beast v6 goes deeper than the GPX 5000 and it does have discrim but my concern is if the machine breaks then what? I lot of times when I hit areas I will toss my machine into all metal mode then hit my discrim on to see what is what. All metal will get you deeper. Not sure the areas you plan on digging but around here a PI will be more work than it's worth . If it was the way to go then chances are 100 others ahead of you already tried. More I dig in different areas the more I believe having a set of coils more specific for the location is the better option, ie small coil or concentric with small Rx for trashy areas, medium coil 12-13 dia for woods if not too cluttered and as big as you can go in the open fields.
  5. Cool I started to design one that was a bar of acrylic that would fit on the edge of the display but got sidetracked. I was hoping to make it low profile, sticks on with an elastic strap and would be water proof but then I got sidetracked with silly work stuff.
  6. I did a quick recording of items I had going from a small nickel silver bead through a screw cap. Total of 20 items 6" away in both all metal mode and discrim mode with disc at min. It is interesting how you can actually see the different sounds and how they have unique patterns. I plan on redoing the test when I can set up outside. There is a lot of emi here and my audio setup was not tuned so I couldn't hear the threshold through the computer even though it was pretty loud on the detector. The audio was also recorded really hot which I will correct next time. Wonder if digital machines have just flat signals with no variation other than tone and volume? I can't record my Garrett as it has a proprietary audio jack.
  7. Real diamonds aren't as flashy, many do prefer the sparkle of cz's, much brighter.
  8. I know, all the old rings and big makers rings I found all have marks. With all the small makers and crafters it's possible it's good. I have my share of stainless, tungsten and titanium rings I have dug and some of those have mm on them. Those also ring in much lower <50 on my AT. Regular nickel silver would be tarnished in the salt. I have worked with ns and it tarnishes quick. I have never found any platinum that I know of so couldn't say what that runs at on the VDI. Also guessed that platinum they would use real diamonds and not cz's. Have you ever picked up on plat?
  9. I recently broke a vow and took my Tejon to the beach and surprisingly did pretty well. I came across this ring about 4-6" down in the damp sand. It has no makers mark or any marks, the diamonds look like cz's not real diamonds as they refract some color and huff test they do not fog. When I compared the vdi on it from my AT Pro it comes in as a solid 55. Stainless rings come in at 48, titanium around 50 and 14k come in at solid 52 on that machine. Jeffersons come in at 52. Usually in my past experience 55 is a square tab or junk. Anyone know what range white gold comes in on? Weight is .3 oz
  10. Blisstool looks nice, I have been eyeing one myself but not sure on support. It does have better discrim because it is a vlf where the TDI and ML are pi's so if there is a lot of trash in the area you may be digging a lot. Another option is a larger coil for your current detector. I sometimes run a Nel Big 17x15 on my AT Pro that gives me just about 50% more depth but it comes in at a cost where you need to sometimes fiddle with the GB (drop sensitivity then bring it back up after gb) and the weight. You almost need to run the coil at your feet or you will be pretty tired after a couple hours. Back to the Blisstool, it seems there are no places here for service so if you buy the 3 coil package for $1500 you may be on your own if it fails. It is also uses 8Khz so you will probably miss small or thin gold where the TDI and ML will ring in good on them. Bottom line is if you have low trash or don't mind digging the Whites or ML will work fine.
  11. Tesoro's site is almost back up so there is still some life there, anyone have a defib?
  12. As a fan of analog beep and dig machines over flashy displays I came across the Blisstool Beast and the depth tests and target separation seem really impressive. Has anyone used one?
  13. I have been eyeing some waterproof machines to upgrade from my AT Pro and looked at the Equinox 800, AT Max, Anfibio Multi and XP Orx all of which are in the same price range. Weight wise the Orx looks good but when compared to the Deus and other machines it seems to lack depth which could be just coil size. AT Max looks good with it's all metal mode but the low 13hz might make finding small gold pieces difficult. Last it leaves the Equinox vs Anfibio multi and seeing comparisons of the 2 machines the Anfibio looks like the better of the 2 machines on depth and signal stability. I have never used any of the machines and others here probably have first hand info that might make the choice better.
  14. I'm not in any rush, I have been using my AT Pro in the big fields but some the fields are hit hard so was going to do a few passes with the Tejon in all metal mode and use the 2nd discrim for small iron. I love the concentric on it now, I can pick through the worst areas and snipe out the good stuff which seems to make it a great machine for parks where you really can't dig everything without getting screamed at by the caretakers. Looking at the Nel and Detech coils as comparison and think they might be a good alternative. For lower pole it isn't a huge deal to undo a nut and swap it out. I do that on my AT. Takes more time to wind the wire than to spin a nut and it isn't like I need to run through the area and do a change out in some sort of competition ?
  15. I baby my equipment, should have it for quite a while. If it fails and I can't fix it i'll bronze it and hang it on my wall ?
  16. Just realized that, they are out of battery box covers too. Worst case scenario I can always make one if I need to. Curious if the wide scan coil is worth getting or is the Nell or Detech coils equal or better? Seems like a mad grab out there on parts and pieces. Reminds me of the food hoarders just before a snow storm up here.
  17. Seriousdetecting has them here for $12, they are pretty good to order from. https://www.seriousdetecting.com/products/?product_cat=shafts&source_id=897&source_tax=product_cat&filter_manufacturer=tesoro I love the concentric but you don't cover much ground when it comes to big open fields.
  18. I have been using the 9x8 concentric coil mostly for park hunting and trashy areas and wondering how good the 12x10 wide scan coil is on depth and small targets or would I be better off with a Nel Thunder or something similar? I find the 9x8 a little tedious on big fields. Thinking of getting that coil along with a lower pole and other parts as back up since Tesoro seems to have evaporated.
  19. Nice, Was eyeing the ORX and having 2nd thoughts now. Thanks for posting.
  20. Be nice if they posted something on their home page on what is going on. They had so many loyal customers they just walked away from. Certainly not how I would do business.
  21. Nice stuff, too bad that modern half cent isn't worth anything hehe
  22. Warranty states Iifetime of the company. Unless there are some state level regulations forcing them to support the machines for XXX years after company closing then maybe that is what they are doing. If that is the case I believe some states require 5 years after last product sale. My hunch and maybe I'm being hopeful, is they are quiet because they haven't tossed in the towel yet.
  23. Looks like Tesoro is still doing repairs. Maybe just restructuring the company. If that is the case and I can confirm then I will snag a Sand Shark for my beach combing. Hope they are still kicking.
  24. Those are good videos. When I use my AT Pro I discovered when the machine is in the salt water I simply plant it flat on the sand, toss it into manual gb and adjust it so both high and low sounds are the same and it seems to be dead on and extremely stable, even picked up a dime about 8" down and thought it was a penny the way it hit, was pretty loud. Planting the machine on dry sand does not seem to work so I do the typical pumping.
  25. My old Whites Bullseye II and Minelab Profind 35 detect about the same on small objects. Took a small silver bead size of a bb and they detect the same about 1" away. Bullseye did a little better. Larger objects like coins and bigger the Minelab does better. Few years back I built a stud finder that hits the bb at about 1/2" away haha. Wish I had a PI to test with and let you know. Having a hunch what you already have is going to be about the same when it comes to tiny stuff.
