  1. Glad you are going up for bat on development consulting for these Steve and Gerry, but what about a PI or even a VLF with not only Fe discrimination, but Al and Pb disc as well? Or is that the current top secret detector model being tested out there right now as well? It is interesting seeing the technology developments going into new models though, but there’s one thing every one of them can do which is the most important part- fun times outdoors!😉
  2. Sounds like basalt hot rocks will be easier to deal with, the battery is internal though. Also another hot screen to view in the sun. I made a extended shade cover out of craft foam and velcro for my other detectors, they work well.
  3. I’d buy all my detectors directly from a dealer if you can. I bought my 24k personally from @Jim McCulloch - he spent the better half of a day showing me how to use it and wouldn’t let me leave without loading me up with free accessories and goodies including his wife’s cookies!🙂
  4. HF handheld radios as well- my GMRS handheld on low power is fine, but noisy when transmitting on high power (5watts). They are pretty cheap though and probably bleed all over the band.
  5. My SDC was and now my 6k are all quiet with a cellphone on and even when calling with it- maybe a EMI difference between phone models?
  6. Question- I havent noticed an issue, but could it be an aircraft’s transponder frequency (1090 MHz) that is causing the perceived aircraft-caused interference some are having on their 6000’s? I’d think that Garrett would have taken note of this issue as well.
  7. Add to Jason’s wish list: Common sized (non-proprietary) removable Lipo batteries.
  8. If it only comes stock with a standard large mono and /or DD, but also offers some smaller coil options off the bat, that would be a huge plus. Looking forward to it.
  9. @Jim McCulloch any insider info you can enlighten us with Jim? 😉
  10. I like the museum display how they mounted the pieces and placed magnifying lenses with them, it looks really nice and would give visitors more to see when looking at it.
  11. Welcome Mike, awesome story feature about that find from BBC. Are there any display images of the chariot collection available to view by the public? What a tremendous and important find that was!
  12. Beautiful find by a beginner using a Nox!… https://www.bbc.com/reel/video/p0cjd7kw/the-ancient-golden-treasure-rewriting-danish-history?utm_source=taboola&utm_medium=exchange&tblci=GiC-DRm48aCkNrIsMxJn8v9xJGruDGCFPOIZV7cb_pPIeyCMjFQou5C_u_3lztH-AQ#tblciGiC-DRm48aCkNrIsMxJn8v9xJGruDGCFPOIZV7cb_pPIeyCMjFQou5C_u_3lztH-AQ
  13. Sorry, should’ve waited till April 1st, making jokes about it will probably get me in trouble. I was just playing with my Photoshop Mix App. Really though, I hope there’s not too painful of a way for us to get firmware adjustments for it, until then I am probably going to stick to the DD in the places I really want to use it- being that they are the closest to where I live.
  14. I googled “GPX 6000 secret firmware update” and found it! You just update the EPROM on the batteries, insert it and it works! Just Kidding!!! 😉
  15. I bet you are right, a flash program only they can use. So then there’s probably a service charge for shipping it to them for installing updates (if the have one) in the future as well!
  16. And there were never any GM updates we could do, and too bad that quick ground balance update was a change in hardware, not firmware. At least the Nox had a nice firmware update users could do themselves, that was pretty sweet getting a new additional frequency for it.
  17. Not a typical end user port like what they have on the Nox then…
  18. Oh, It’s behind the speaker grill! (Not really!) But it could be done with something like a special programming menu that uses a proprietary cable in the audio port or something…. Or maybe just a web designer’s page parking spot for a future release…
  19. I made this demonstration to explain the difference, The double D will work very well under specific conditions: https://youtu.be/Px7oDu3W0cM We have a lot of infrastructure here, and some of the goldfields have powerlines crossing them so I would love to be able to detect directly underneath them!
  20. Wondering if anyone knows of any smaller DD’s being developed for it yet? I’m in line to get the CT 10’x5’ mono when it is released here in the US, but would really love to get a smaller DD. Stay healthy and get better everyone!
  21. That’s a great reference, Good photos too. Death Valley has so many great examples of this stuff to see, every geology class I’ve taken have always included field trips there and I recognize some of the stops there. If one really wants to delve into this, there’s a great Geomorphology book available on the web in PDF version. New editions of the book are available to buy but the 2nd and 3rd editions are available from several links online. Just search for “Fundamentals of Geomorphology by Richard John Huggett PDF”
  22. Geomorphology also affects the size and distribution of gold and alluvium in a stream channel, especially by the size of its watershed and the degree of its slope. Wineglass valleys form by cutting into very steep slopes, often along steep fault scarps. They have narrow and very steep alluvial fans at their base, and a steep funnel shaped valley above it at the head, and are subject to high velocity flows with poorly sorted materials when it rains. Wineglass valleys may possibly be good places to prospect if access is good as the alluvium is poorly sorted and any gold and other heavy materials is more evenly mixed in, whereas those large alluvial fans that spread out almost flat across a valley from large washes are formed by lower velocity flows of well sorted alluvial materials with larger heavier materials, including gold nuggets becoming more deeply deposited first, and the fines deposited further downslope.
  23. Simon, have you seen this video I recorded showing the EMI response results between a GPX 6000 mono and DD Minelab coil under powerlines as well? I wonder what caused the difference between ours? Just another bad coil? I was recording with an iPhone and that didn’t seem to bother it at all, even with the mono when I’m out away from powerlines and talking on it. What type of phone were you using to record it, have you tested that possible variable?
  24. If gold price goes that much higher making large scale mining profitable in lower grade areas, clubs with significantly good claim holdings are going to really get squeezed in by speculators looking for claimable land- it’s starting to happen in the Springer District of the Randsburg area and in the El Paso Mountains of California right now. I saw a lot of new posts that looked like they were related to a geological drilling survey that someone posted recently in the area, and several were within existing club claims.
