  1. Something else I learned from the article- Truffling…now that would be fun!
  2. Yup, and that’s how I like my Drywasher to work also - can’t be losing the yellow back there in the tailings pile!
  3. Have a great trip, please post photos! And really, you don’t need all those underwear, just 1 will last. Go front, go back, go inside-out, then go front and back!😆
  4. Ah, being into GIS- I used it. I would upload all the claim corners in an area I went prospecting on it so I could check where they were with the GPS in the field. But my phone Topo Map app is so much better, so I quit using the GPZ’s navigation.
  5. I don’t know why I thought of Gerry when I read this! 😁
  6. Yum! Really miss those berries from my past summers in WA. Nice nuggets too!
  7. I understand regarding distracting noises. I’ve been pushing pipe wrap tape a lot around here- try some on the bottom of your coils, it works really well to dampen the sounds the 6k coils make when hitting the ground.
  8. I use an Avantree Torus and really like it. There have been occasional dropouts, but they happen so seldomely and last so quick that I never thought it was an issue. I also experienced a rapid pulsing interference once when a Zed was turned on near me. I never had this happen though when turning it on near a Zed that was already running. As for using noise cancelling headphones, is that for wind noise? I know it’s a personal choice, and for me just wearing headphones bothers me outdoors, but I would be doubly worried about not hearing noises like someone yelling “look out!”, horns, rattling, growls, footsteps or other warning or danger sounds while wearing noise canceling headphones outdoors.
  9. Thanks for being so detailed. I am finding wire screen bits and boot tacks with my 6k and 10x5 pretty deep- about 6”. Same with the 14”DD. It would be interesting to compare with a Zed with one of those concentrics. The soils were mild where I’ve used it so far, so that could have made it work like that.
  10. Falcons are good for extremely small gold but it has to be up close to the coil. I think your gold monster will be good for it. If they have any waste cores they’l let you have and have access to a rock or tile saw, you can make some pretty cool little discs out of them, I love collecting cores - we have quite a few. I made coasters out of some larger ones.
  11. Wow, how cool of a find! He did well. Curious, being a fresh fall, I would have thought following sterile technique by wearing gloves and bagging it as soon as possible would have been good. Wouldn’t there have been some interest in sampling for organic compounds in it? Being an amateur, I would have not knowing if it was necessary or not. Thanks for sharing the story!
  12. Gerry, try using some of that pipe wrap tape on the bottom and sides of the coil, it probably wouldn’t be so good for pretty pictures, but your coils will be a lot more quiet.
  13. Testing cores sounds like fun, and the GM is a good machine for that. I wonder how a falcon would work on those cores? Guess you’d have to go around them in a full circle depending on the bit size they’re using. How big were they?
  14. @kac Mine just arrived in the mail, can’t wait to try it out. It’s a very nice handmade tool. Thanks!
  15. Sounded like it was trying to do Morse code… but in jibberous. Switching transformers do that, or maybe a buried underground cable. Definitely an internal issue if nothing else was around, and it’s a different sound from what power lines do to my mono coil, like between 0:35 and 1:00 here:
  16. Using the 10x5 and the 11 doesn’t have the ground sensitivity for me that others mentioned. I also keep my iPhone on in my front pocket, have filmed with it, and even taken a call with no issue. Jason may have a good cause for a warranty return, I would at least do it before selling it.
  17. Jason, sounds like something is still pinging on you phone when you think it’s “off”… you sure it’s not just in sleep mode?
  18. He’s in Colorado- lots of secret defense related sites and infrastructure is located there, perhaps he’s getting some interference from something like that? Especially as he said it happened in various places and not others, maybe from going in and around valleys and hills created various signal shadows. It would have been difficult for Minelab to anticipate all the different types of EMI the detector would be encountering during testing, but I’d think adequate internal shielding should have taken care of all that.
  19. If it were a pure gold nugget I would expect it not to contribute to the halo, however the precipitates of iron, copper and other metals that were present with the gold in a buried nugget could leach out into the surrounding soil and create a larger halo target around the nugget.
  20. I would have bought one from backwoods, but it’s not listed there including in the digging tools section, so EBay instead😒 But that’s not your fault, Jeff Bozo can use the money for a split microsecond’s worth of fuel for his new superyacht. Oh wait, that is Amazon. Well they don’t need our money either!
  21. @kac Ken, just ordered one on EBay, am looking forward to trying it out. It looks like a very nice tool, and I’m happy to support the effort! One suggestion though, wish you had your own website to buy directly from, EBay doesn’t need our money! 😉Thanks! -Anthony
  22. I like that idea, will have to order an extra to keep one in my truck for whenever we are somewhere and I didn’t take my regular gear. Could also make a great snowball and slobbery dog ball atlatl!
  23. Thanks for posting it. Guess we should wrap the whole thing in aluminum foil. In addition to ice cream cover coil protective tape and shaft spin locking o-rings, there’s another receipt to submit to ML for reimbursement! 😁
  24. You’re probably right about external interference, remember Simon’s photo of the way the interior of the 6K cases are hand painted with a shielding coating? Interesting about the Sun’s effect on drilling!
