  1. @RONS DETECTORS MINELAB 10mil pipe tape idea-brilliant! After 1 day detecting in 90-100 degree heat in the full sun. No melting tape and still good. Thanks Ron!
  2. I certainly agree with this, and if I ever do buy it, will from a local dealer that definitely places high value on his customers, not something to find from online.
  3. Both rods are 22mm OD on the control end, I’m sure it will work. The Tele-Nox rod is well built and the adjustable cam locks hold each section tightly. The rod shape is basically round with a closed channel running through the length of them. This makes them ridged and they cannot spin when nested together. The only thing I’m not sure of is how easily the existing 6K rod can be removed from the box. There are 10 small plastic tabs holding part of the box around the rod, but there may be another clamp inside the box that I cannot see…
  4. I found it- Tele-Nox MK11 https://www.detecting-innovations.co.uk/TeleKnox_3_piece_Mk11_shaft_in_seven_colours/p6292256_20668764.aspx Let me try swapping mine out first as I have one, will test it out. It’s a great rod for the Nox, 3-piece and it compacts really short, and a pain in the butt to fit the detector in a bag with a large coil though as it doesn’t rotate at all.
  5. I wonder if one of those Brit-made carbon graphite Nox shafts would work on it- It has a rib built into the shape so it can’t spin. Trying to find the model to link here…
  6. Oh god, the birdshot with that 10x5! I am sore from it- dug everything on that hike yesterday and it was all birdshot! So yes, the 10x5’is a very sensitive coil, stable also.
  7. Which Coiltek size did you get, Jason? I bought the 10x5 and finally got to use it properly on steep rocky terrain yesterday while walking a contour line along the side of a steep canyon. It worked well with the 6000 and I am really glad I didn’t sell the detector. I’m not a full-timer by any means though, people who are like you need to decide what works best by trying things out for themselves.
  8. Went to the El Paso mtns near Randsburg today to go detecting and found a couple defunct hollow PVC claim markers still standing. Pulled them out of the ground and dead birds fell out. I’m sure the people putting them in never even imagined something like that could happen. If you ever do see them, BLM has approved pulling them out if they are uncapped and hollow, because some have been found with dozens of dead migratory song birds and burrowing owls in them. If you would rather not pull them out, you could fill them up with gravel or rocks, or at least jam a rock into the top to seal it perhaps but if it’s your claim you can’t use hollow pipe anymore for markers, they have to be solid. It was pretty sad finding all those dead birds and even a shrew in them.
  9. Be careful there Johnny. Next thing, you’ll be wishing you had the Midas touch and will really be regretting it soon afterwards! 😄
  10. I also wanted to sell my 6k early last week to save up for a Axiom and even posted it on EBay for auction starting at $5k, but then decided to keep it. Then others started selling theirs for less. Anyways, Im glad I didn’t sell it. With the going price at $4500 now, with the 13% fee EBay charges and shipping and all, I figure my take home would have been less than $3800 for the detector with all my accessories. What a shame to lose all that after less than 1 year of use!! Anyways, that’s why I went with a Coiltek 10x5 instead…. there’s plenty of good use left in it along with at least 2 more years of warranty.
  11. Looks ready to go! Did you cover the entire bottom of the coil cover with pipe tape as well?
  12. How about a positive bomb? Copy and paste, send to ML and the 2 coil manufacturers: Dear to whom it may concern, I want a DD Sadie for my 6K. Sincerely, (your name here) 🥰
  13. Jason, any theories why your coil does that? Geology, weird EMI at different locations, even elevation changes (Mentioned by Coiltek hence their pressure relief valve)? My cousin in France used to live in an upstairs apartment in Paris. Her TV had lines go across the screen and the radio had screeching noise every 10 seconds or so. I had to laugh and make jokes about it (silently in horror about it) when we stayed with her. It was later when she realized it was due to Orly Airport’s radar which was some distance away. Is there a chance that your bad sites have something like that going on like military radar or telecom? If you are mapping out the sites you are visiting with EMI, are there any patterns to it?
  14. Hello Trevor, just purchased the little 10x5 for my 6K and will be using it for the first time in the mountains this week. I have a question about using the pressure regulator tab, as the places I intend to use it will be over 5000 ft (~1500m) above my current elevation, I assume my coil will be a little puffy when I get there and may need to lose a bit of air. Then when I get home it’ll be a little concave and I’ll have to let some air in. Anyway my question is how much noise have you noticed happens from when the coil is going through pressure changes and to what amount of elevation change have you noticed that happening? I’m curious if ML Coils are affected by this as well? Thank you, and I really appreciate the build quality of this coil, you guys did a great job on it. I will certainly post my successes with it when (and if 😁) they happen! -Anthony
  15. I am very intrigued by the Garrett Axiom, and being a 24k owner, I really love the brand and really wanted to get one, so I posted my 6k for sale early last week. I only had it on EBay and here for a short while, but decided to pull it off sale and wait until next year to see what the Axioms do in person. Well, and also as I mentioned to Steve when I asked if he could pull my ad, I decided I should put more time on it learning how to use it and making it do what it was made to do first. Besides, I really do enjoy using it. In the meantime, I also just got a Coiltek 10x5” for it as our areas are small gold in mild soils. Anyways, good luck to those trading theirs for the Axiom, looking forward to reading about your personal experiences with them and maybe I’ll do the same sometime down the road.
  16. I’ve heard of Slim Saunders, that brings back memories! We played some of his music in band. This was one of my favorites. But seriously, being brave is knowing when to back off and be safe.
  17. There are trail and security cams that have remote recorders you can hide away from the camera and even some that will use cellular to send photos and video remotely. If you are interested in those let me know and I’ll research it a bit for you. I used to use the cellular ones for a highway project on a remote mountain and they worked well. Even got video from a camera right when a rockfall took it out.
  18. @Coiltek I SECOND THAT, definitely interested in a smaller elliptical DD! Thank you for supporting us users also!
  19. Gerry, you mentioned easier pinpointing with the elliptical’s toes in your classified ad here on DP, that sounds great. I’m also curious if you found it to be hot on edge for pinpointing also? If so, did you have any noticeable changes in stability when turning the coils on their sides “off axis” ? I haven’t noticed it with the stock 11” coil and was wondering what it may be that others mentioned.
  20. The 24k does well with some hot rock pebble areas I’ve tried it with, but I’ve used it in some old drywasher piles it hates. Each pebble was highly attracted to magnets and they were dense. Haven’t been back to try my 6k there yet, but I am looking forward to it when I get the 10x5 over it, but I think it will take some raking out the pebbles with a magnet first though!
  21. NF’s are out now? just ordered a 10x5 CT for mine, wonder how it will compare with the 6x8 NF?
  22. As for accurately mapping where a detector coil has been, here’s a paper describing using a PDA and a camera to precisely map out the coil position and it creates a low resolution outline image of the target as the coil scans it. The primary use for the system was intended for UXO detecting, but it may be useful for relict detecting as well. They even use the system for object recognition, but it would be useful for small targets though. As for hardware, I’d think any new smartphone has the capability to do this, as the researchers who made the system were using a basic PDA and camera to do it. I posted about it here previously: https://www.ndt.net/article/ecndt2006/doc/Tu.4.5.4.pdf More Here:
  23. You started out really liking your 6K, having successful finds and calling it a “magic wand” not that long ago, what happened with it since then? Hope it works out. I didn’t have any issues with mine except just wishing there was a smaller coil for it, but now there is so I am going with that until the Garrett wave washes by then we’ll see. There will be many options coming soon, so I hope you don’t have to have a fire sale with your 6k.
