  1. hey Chris .I think a smooth threshold is one of the most important settings on the 7000. I have found some nice pieces that were nothing more than a very slight change in the threshold. If you`ve got a threshold that`s all over the place you`ll miss targets that are just a slight murmur . cheers Dave
  2. Mate about 3 or 4 months. Plus in that time I replaced the acid once. Dave
  3. Mate the stuff is called AliBrite. If you`ve got gold you want to clean be prepared to leave it the acid for months http://www.septone.com.au/product/l/alibrite-1l
  4. That speci I posted the other day, I finally took it out of the acid and the good thing about the acid clean is the before photos were taken with a 150 power usb microscope and that`s the only reason you could see the gold. When you were holding that speci in your hand it was so hard to see the gold, but now that it`s cleaned you can see the gold no worries at all.. The SG says this piece has 2.254 grams gold. The after photos were taken with a unwanted camera a forum member gave me. Thanks very much Steve it`s a terrific camera. ◕‿◕ And goldEn, this is how your speci came out as well. Dave
  5. Now THAT`S a trailer. 17 axles, and as Rowdy said, this one`s a bolt on. Just add more sections as you need them . Dave
  6. goldEn his name wasn`t on it. That`s how come I was able to find it
  7. Hey idaho. I have been guilty of that as well, putting others finds in my screen saver loop. cheers Dave
  8. Hey Rowdy. I didn`t know you were over here. Nice to see you. Mate I know they certainly make them, but the only 12 axle trailer I have ever seen in the flesh, the axles didn`t steer independantly. Every time it went round a corner it tore hell out of the tyres. cheers Dave
  9. I got this specimen a few months ago and it`s currently in acid. I got it at a depth of about 5 or 6 inches with the 7000 and one of my mates who`s no slouch with detector, in air tests can hear it max about 1" away from the coil with a 5000. All these little pieces are connected electrically. Hopefully it`s going to look pretty good when it comes out of the acid. Dave
  10. Yeh there is some serious weight there. As well as the two prime movers hauling it, it`s sitting on a 12 axle trailer
  11. Mate that`s a terrific set of pictures, great gold and good on mom for still detecting
  12. Jen that is so funny. What happened with Enios` is. Enio carries a back pack when he is detecting . He carries everything in this backpack except the kitchen sink. But I might be selling the guy short, maybe there is a kitchen sink in there as well. Anyway one weekend when he stayed at my place, in the morning, unbeknownst to me, he placed his backpack against the front left wheel of the troopy, and when I drove out of the garage I ran over his backpack with the back left wheel. The ONLY thing in the backpack I squashed was the orange GPS. What are the chances of that? Dave
  13. hey Mike and Jen is that the back tracker you bought a couple of years ago for about 35 bucks or was that one a dud? When I sussed out the gps on the 7000 I gave my backtracker to Enio as a spare. And what`s really funny is, about 2 weeks after I gave him mine, believe it or not, I drove over his and squashed it flat. When he told me about it I said "well that`s why I gave you mine as a spare" cheers dave
  14. One change I would like to see in the gps, and I phoned Minelab about this about 6 months ago, the largest scale the gps has is 100 meter or 100 yards. If you create a way point, say your vehicle, once you get 400 meters away from it you can no longer see your vehicle on the screen, you can only see you. I think it would be simple to do, I asked the nice lady at Minelab if they could build in a constantly varying scale so you could always see where you were in relation to the way point you had created. Either constantly variable or more scales. Maybe 200 meter, 500 meter and one kilometer. I always carry a little compass for if me and the way point are both not on the screen, I then use the gps compass to tell me where the way point is. The lady at Minelab said she thought this was a good idea and said she would move it up the chain. For me at least, it would be good if this change was in the next upgrade. Dave
  15. Mike have you tried using the inbuilt GPS to mark your camp/vehicle as a way point. When I am in unfamiliar country I always mark my vehicle as a way point. You know how thick it is up at Inglewood. One day I was up there, head down and wandering and at the end of the day if it hadn`t been for the 7000 GPS, I would have set off 180º in the wrong direction to get back to the troopy cheers Dave
  16. I wish you all the best in that venture mate. I hope this shaft you are about to sink turns out to be a gold mine. cheers Dave
  17. G`day mn Mate if you mean where do I have my threshold set, I don`t know. I don`t look at the numbers, I just set the threshold to my hearing. cheers Dave
  18. I got out for a quick 2½ hour detect today at a spot where most times I come home empty handed but I know of some nice pieces that have come from there in the last 5 years and I got this half grammer. It`s not so much the size of the piece as the signal it gave off. I run a very low threshold, if I turn down the threshold just 2 numbers I can`t hear it, and this piece came through as very soft electrical interference. From the signal I was getting I had no idea of size or depth and I was disappointed it was only down 6" in super hard gravel. I was hoping what ever it was, it was going to be much deeper. But any day I come home with a rattle in the jar is a good day. cheers Dave
  19. hey idahoI realize this isn`t quite what you asked for, but a few years ago when I was selling gold on Ebay, I used to jump through hoops trying to take good photographs of the gold I was selling and I thought this one came out pretty good. cheers Dave
  20. John if you are interested, have a look at this thread on how I fit the stuff. cheers Dave
