This is a piece I got in conglomerate years ago using a Minelab 16000 Ground Tracker. This rock started about the size of a house brick and by the time I exposed the gold it`s about the size of a large egg. It looks to be about a ½ grammer. Around where I live there is tons of conglomerate that looks just like this and I have never got a signal in any of it. Dave

I realize things have been a bit wet underfoot on the West Coast but here in central Victoria I have been in a real drought. I have been finding point oners but yesterday I got one over 1 gram. The 7000 with 14" coil I got this at the limit of the detector using JP`s conservative settings. It was 12 or 14" deep in very hard ground and goes a whopping 1.7 grams Dave

No Bill I don`t believe the polycarbonate has degraded the performance of any of the coils I`ve fitted the stuff too. The first day I used the 19" after fitting the lexan I got this piece. It goes 0.06 gram cheers Dave

Unfortunately Steve with that analogy you have probably described perfectly why I do so badly in my neck of the woods. I live in the middle of goldfields that are only 2-3 hrs from Melbourne and would be amongst the most detected goldfields in the world, and I`ve never considered your point quite that way. I`ve got this wizz bang detector that goes a bit deeper, but regardless of the size of the nugget I get, I`m only detecting a extra few inches of dirt. Not a pleasing thought. cheers Dave

mate I don`t have a hell of a lot in the way of pictures but the polycarbonate cuts easy with tin snips. Back when I had a 5000 I was a coil tragic and I have a shed full of coils I will probably never use again and I put the lexan on every coil I owned except my UFO. I didn`t put it on the UFO because I never wore out the the Coiltek skid plate. I bought off this supplier but I bought the 1.2m x 2.4m sheet for about 90 bucks. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1220x1220x1mm-UV2-polycarbonate-Clear-Sheet-FREE-Postage-Lexan-Makrolon-Supply-/252341081399?hash=item3ac0b35537:g:j5gAAMXQ-3NRnFy9 I over size the Lexan about ¼" all the way round, VERY lightly sand the coil but gouge the hell out of the lexan, apply a THIN bead of silastic to the Lexan with a little in the middle of the coil, place the Lexan on the concrete and then TWIST the coil onto the sheet. Once you are happy that you have no air bubbles and it is well seated, no need to put weights on it or anything else, just walk away from it for a day. It will never come off unless you want it to come off Dave

Hey Mitchel I don`t know about that stuff you are talking about because I have never tried it but the polycarbonate is a "set and forget". I bought the 7000 the day they were released and this is the second skid plate I have fitted to the 14. The first plate hadn`t worn out but I over size the plate about ¼" all the way round so if I whack a rock the polycarbonate takes the impact and not the coil and the ¼" overhang was cracking cheers Dave

Hey schiara Yeh I know what you mean about that warble and that`s the target I`m out there looking for. I have been able to duplicate that warble in air tests, but I`m yet to get a target like that with the 19. But tomorrow is another day Good hunting Dave

Good on you Norvic Mate before you put the 2 together lightly sand the skid plate but gouge the hell out of the polycarbonate with the sand paper. If you apply silastic to smooth polycarbonate it will peel off, but once you`ve gouged it the only way it will come off is if you want it off cheers Dave

Norvic hi Mate on the Aussie forum did you have a look in the 7000 section at my polycarbonate plate? My original intention was to stick the plate directly onto the coil but when I saw the pottings are exposed on the underside of the coil I decided to put the lexan onto the skid plate. I have no doubt if you fit a solid plate you will find the coil way easier to use. And yeh at the moment I am keeping a positive attitude about the coil but so far I haven`t seen a hell of a lot in the way of results Dave

I must admit that even with the weight of the thing I quite like using the 19 and for a while at least I will continue to use it. Using the ML supplied swing arm and putting a solid skid plate on it really helped. And I`ve thrown all settings out the window and starting from scratch and at this stage I still don`t know what settings I`m going to settle on but I am leaning towards NORMAL ground. A big plus with this coil is in normal it doesn`t get the hotrocks like the 14 does. But at this stage I have seen no evidence what so ever of 30% deeper. And I`m not talking about multi ounce nuggets, I`d like to get the occasional 5-10 grammer that`s a bit deeper. I am very interested in reading how this coil does in the States. Dave

Hey Steve Did you notice they have also added a disclaimer asterix to the "30% deeper" claim. That asterix wasn`t there a week ago. My experience so far with the 19" has been very disappointing but my intention is now that it is on it is staying on. There has got to be some advantage to it somewhere. I`m interested to see how the coil performs in the States. cheers Dave

Mate the first time I ever used a swing arm was the day after I bought the 19, I`ve never seen a need for one, but with the 19" coil I think a swing arm is a must have. It makes the coil way lighter. cheers Dave

Norvic hi I am staying out of the kaos that is currently happening on the Aussie forum because I am sick of being negative on the 7000 all the time. I got my 19 the day they were released and me and one of my mates that`s undecided about whether to get the 19 or not, went to a local test bed that has targets simulating nuggets ranging from 3 grams to 2 ounces at various depths. My mate runs "difficult" ground, "high yield" with a gain of 17. Regardless of the settings I used the 19 did not out perform the 14" coil on ANY of the targets and the one that disturbed me the most was the 19" coil couldn`t hear the 2 ouncer @ 20" as well as the 14" could. Your suggest that I just wrote that in order to trick you into not buying a 19" coil is laughable. I haven`t given up on this coil yet because after all, I am not looking for man made targets, I am looking for gold that is actually in the ground, but after 5 outings in what was once the richest goldfield in the world I have only found one nugget that went 0.46 gram cheers Dave

Steve I think you have a good forum here and I realize that I am now probably about to be booted off it. Clearly I am one of the people "refusing to read and understand what is being presented in its totality". I`m not sure I even understand what that means. I like the 7000 and intend to keep it but in 10 months of detecting almost daily in the goldfields of Victoria I am yet to to see my detector come close to attaining the claims made by Minelab in their advertising. I read the large print about the huge increases in depth and then I`m supposed to read the small print and decide before I buy the detector that the claims do not apply to where I live and detect. I was mislead by Minelab advertising. I hope you all had a good Christmas in the States and very sorry to read about the tornadoes that are hammering some areas at the moment cheers dave
