  1. Hmmm... I'm slightly better at finding Waldo, but finding Steve is about as tough as finding nuggets. I'm gonna have to leave this one for the next detective, my brain can no longer focus and my eyes are blurred...all is normal.
  2. That coil looks big next to the 14... wish they had shown a little side by side action, guess thats coming soon.
  3. well...my first guess is that Steve was one of those big gold nuggets they were showing off, that would explain why they seem to be dripping off him everyplace he hunts, that and his superb knowledge and talents. other than my brown noosing, but still well deserved praise of our host...there was a guy in glasses showing up for a flash at 0:29 and again at 3:26???? couldn't tell you for sure and can't really tell, but i don't see any other possibilities.
  4. na, you'd be OK...girls like that get your heart started. i think they call it a debbie fibulator. funny story, I took my daughter and younger son on a tour of China a few years ago and on one night in shanghai a friend of ours took us out to some night clubs in the city. this guy works for the government as sort of a city manager doing something with business and running a couple of the corporations, i'm not exactly sure what they are but this guys got some horsepower. we were hanging out listening to music and having some drinks when 20 young handsome young men (guys breaking into the movie industry and the same number of up and up and coming starlets as pretty as the girls in that picture come walking up. the boys surround my daughter and the girls all circled around my son, the deal was they were both supposed to pick out a date for conversation and dancing. talk about different reactions...my daughter was horrified and wanted nothing to do with any of it, my son a different story...he was certain Shanghai was the place to live.
  5. you will love China, let us know when you plan to go and ill see if we can find you someplace to see off the beaten path or at least have a pretty Chinese lady meet you for dinner!
  6. ya, well California is more my preference, I think they would be equally happy anywhere in the west... or other locations that have the kinds of things they are looking for. he's heading up to clear lake area to look around on Wednesday and next week we will tour around with them in the Sonora area depending on what shows up from the realtors. if California is to much of a problem they are just as happy to move the money to another state. My wife was telling me she has some friends buying up large parcels of land in Australia, she isn't sure exactly where, but I keep telling her to get them to buy something good for gold prospecting, maybe try to find some private property that been locked up and unavailable in the past, perhaps JP could suggest something, he could help manage the mineral rights and point us to the gold.
  7. Thanks LipCa. stuff like this can be a long shot and take years, one thing going in our favor is this will tie up a lot of land that won't be used for cultivation of pot and be something that will be positive for whatever community it might land near. they are not interested in dense development if you saw the lakeside video and the pictures of the artists community everything has been kept natural and open, but something to this extent is new ground for me and i appreciate any advise i can get to help my friends do this right. they have lots of experience in construction and development and own a couple of the larger construction companies in China, so i know they aren't going to be overwhelmed by the size of the project, just the regulations and inability to make things happen as they are accustomed in China. if we find anything i know ill have a lot of questions to ask and have many things to consider and hiring a consultant to help might be a good idea, if we move into serious talks on a piece of property.
  8. Thanks, I appreciate the good words. I retired from the fire department, never did any deck building... I did do a lot of stuff on days off when I was working on the line like every other guy there with not enough money to cover the time off, side jobs are the norm. Painting, remodels and other stuff... most of the other guys work in one of the trades or another, so there is always a steady resource for doing it yourself. later I moved on to the Admin and was Ops Chief when I left. That put me in charge of fire suppression (150 guys), fire EMS, Haz Mat Division and the volunteer reserve division to round things out. Building a deck and finding gold is a lot more fun, it took me 5 years to get over the jumps every time a pager or phone went off, i was tied to almost 24/7.
  9. my friends have done nothing but work their whole lives and now they want to have a little fun, i'm kind of a bad influence what with fishing (ADD), metal detecting/prospecting (ADD), Ceramics (ADD), I'm a complete do it yourself and on and on (ADD)... they keep hearing about all my adventures in gold country and are wanting in on some of the fun along with a great place to live. One of the guys is my fishing buddy and he wants to buy a new boat and have me take care of it for him, but I don't want to have him buy a giant maintenance fee for a boat and all the other headache for me, he'd hardly use it and actually my little boat is a better fishing platform for me anyway. Prospecting is another story... that's an investment in land that I can recommend to my friends and still feel good about myself and sleep peacefully at night. Money I don't think will be the issue as finding the right property will be the challenge. This is a youtube video of his property in Hangchou, the video is only so so and shows only a little of the land... the staff pulls a pretty big fish out of the lake for lunch, thats kind of cool; and this is the artists community they have in a different location in zhejiang, China; http://travel.sohu.com/20160123/n435607720.shtml If I could find them a piece of property like roaring camp I don't think it would be out of the question, I don't think roaring camp would be willing to sell. My friends are really nice group of people, they do a ton of charity work and support the arts and a lot of other people... they like a beautiful place to live, they want to find gold for the experience, finding it for money is not important at all to them they would just like to find a little trophy and have some fun. being together with their friends and sharing experiences is also most important, they won't care about keeping every nugget for themselves. i can see many group hunts and gatherings as they enjoy the friends experience very much and are very willing to share. I will keep the offer in mind thank you, I'm going to talk to a realtor tomorrow and we'll see if something appropriate turns up. One more thing, i will get them involved in AMRA, some deep pocket friends helping other minors in the battle to keep land access open wouldn't be a bad thing either, although China helping in the fight for freedom and rights here in the US might seem a little awkward.
  10. Hey Paul, fun idea on the hat...in the heat I found using one of those scarves made with a filling of those water retention beads after a good full soaking worn around the neck really helps a lot and they will stay cool all day long. The little bit of evaporative cooling makes a big difference in my heat tolerance out there.
  11. Paul, I was wondering when you go to China were you going on a tour, or just planning to roam around on your own? If you don't speak the language you kind of need a friend or something to help out, at least I do anyway, my Chinese is pretty poor...my brain has a brick wall when it comes to learning Chinese and without help taxi, restaurants, most stores...everywhere really, you can't count on anyone speaking English, so I'm pretty helpless if I'm on my own. if you do head over on your own, let me know and I'll give you a few tips on what to do over there and have a friend or two give you a hand if you like or need.
  12. Paul, Let me know when you decide to go, I'll call my friend who owns the mountain with the old temple and jade mine. You can detect on his private property if you happen in the area on your travels.
  13. Hi Paul, Ha, it says watch your head... no, actually the outside is about wonderful family, good friends and success in ventures at this happy place and on the inside is a well known chinese poem about the rabbit and the snake (my wife was born in the year of the rabbit and I was born in the year of the snake).
  14. My wife has had me building a deck and a couple of gates at the studio in Santa Clara, never built a deck before...kinda fun but been to damn hot the last couple of days. it's getting pretty close to done so I've got to head up to the mountains and do some hunting before she finds me another project.
  15. Hi Ray, so whats the deal with Calaveras county and the green rush?? I heard on the news that property was heating up in anticipation of legalization after the november elections, is the political environment more favorable there? didn't hear the same thing for Amador and El Dorado Counties. hey Jim, My friend and potential partner on this deal is going to want to do some development on the property, if I do this with him ill be a junior partner for sure as he will have the bulk of the money to invest. We have been talking about building some kind of retirement community where all of our friends can move to as we get older, my friend owns a village in China, it's full of artists and musicians and he wants to do something similar here with art studios, community areas and small residences through the property...I could see something that would have private areas and art galleries and perhaps tea house and music open to the surrounding community, all very conceptual for now, but he is very interested. I'm going to contact some realtors next week and perhaps the week following we will take a drive and look at some land, see whats really out there and then well see, very good to know about the building issues in El Dorado County as hopefully knowing those pitfalls will let me ask the right questions first...
  16. Hi Don, 'I'll throw my two cents (found them the other day ) in on the Deus. I can't really help on any of the technical stuff, but I can say I love using it and keep it around with me pretty much all the time folded up in a little backpack in my car...ready to play in seconds. because it's so discrete and travel friendly I use it a lot. I also have andy's book, it's great. clark
  17. That is a nice place, this is going to be tough...i really like the downieville area, but was thinking about a slightly lower elevation and no or little snow. Also better access to a bigger town, more like Sonora or Jackson even Placerville/Auburn would be OK, but that is a nice parcel, might have to take a look.
  18. OK, I need some help and advise...Im thinking about buying some land in the southern mother load and am looking for around 50 to a couple of hundred acres depending on the land possibly in Calaveras or Amador County and a friend of mine is also looking for land to invest in. I'd like to get something with water access, river front or lake front, near old workings, multiple building sites, detectable gold and I'm sure there are many other things to consider. anyone here had a large parcel of undeveloped property and what were the pitfalls, would you do it again????
  19. OK, I'm having fun about the price, although Nokta/Makro just might surprise us one of these days...but all the other stuff at a reasonable price would be great.
  20. Great video, thanks for letting us have it first.
  21. power of the GPZ discrimination of the CTX package of the DEUS price of the garrett ACE, thats all I ask... oh, and while Im at it no bugs or recalls. ok and one more thing, supply all the goodies protective covers and carry bags to fit my machine for the intended use and journeys.
  22. Wow. really cool find, what were you swinging was it deep? thanks for showing
  23. Ya, I figured the big fat heavy chunk of old lead must have been fired off in a fight of some kind...somebody trying to make a getaway with a prized lump of vitamin yellow, or fending off the fangs and claws of a monster grizzly terrorizing the camp. guess i'll have to go back and find a few more stories... thanks for the tips...
  24. He planning on taking it to the university of New Mexico same place that did the other one the kid found. l sure hope its real for him cause he's totally hooked now on detecting and will be out hunting again tomorrow, he likes just finding stuff and this would be a pretty good start.
  25. This is the confirmed rio rancho meteorite found in the same area a few years ago, by the kid hunting with a metal detector his grandfather made him.
