  1. That place has been producing great finds for the club over 30 years. Its amazing what is still being found. I actually like tax tokens, of course I'd rather find a coin, but some tax tokens are pretty rare, but not the one I found. 🀣
  2. Nice haul, F350! I'd be intereted in seeing how your new Reaper ends up. I'm really getting to like General specially on damp ground, which is the only kind we have right now. I played with it again yesterday and it ran really well. I briefly played with the Audio Filter, but I couldn't decide if I liked it or not. 1-2 settings were interesting, but anything higher sounded weird to me so I went back to zero. I'll have to explore that some more. You're the one that got me interested in General in the first place, so thanks again for the tips!
  3. Way to go, Erik, congrats on the awesome rings! Luck is great, but experience is more consistent. 😎
  4. Gary at the Czech version of Detectival...
  5. The WS6 doesn't have backlight like the full remote does so that can't be changed, but you can change the contrast level in the settings menu and that may help. Also you can set the screen to Large Numbers display in the settings menu or by pushing the + and menu butttons (the 2 buttons on the right side) and hold them for 2 seconds as a shortcut to activate and deactivate Large Number display. Here's a link to the WS6 Master manual in case you need it: https://www.xpmetaldetectors.com/uploads/files/document/gb-ws6-deusii.pdf
  6. Way to sniff out those coins from unforgiving ground! Too bad about the turtle eggs, probably a dog or racoon got them. BTW, Happy Anniversary you crazy kids!
  7. Great way to start off, F350, and congrats on the rings! I bet those shotgun caps date from the era of the hunting lodge. You're right I'm back to basics with V1.1, but really liking it too and learning even more about the capabilities of the D2. Enjoy your vacation and I'm looking forward to your posts of more great finds! 😎
  8. Thanks JCR! I did experiment with dropping the Max Freq to 24K and 14K on several targets. 14K would overload pretty quick in wet iron laden ground. 24K was better but didn't quite separate as well as 40k with General in the wet ground. That hotel tag was in the same hole as a ring pull and 40k separated the tones and IDs showing a recurring 74 and 86-88 right next to it. Out of the hole the ring pull IDed at 72 and the hotel tag IDed at 86. 24K kind of averaged those two targets together with the tone jumping up and down and the ID going from about 72 to 88 but it wasn't as clear that there were two targets there with 24K in those wet conditions. I'm shipping you some rain today, enjoy! πŸ˜‰
  9. Well getting out to detect with the new V1.1 update has been sporatic at best with my monsoon season in overdrive with rain everday for weeks now. As soon as I can find some dry wood, I'm going to get started on building an Ark! 😏 So one of my detecting buddies called on Saturday and said the rain has stopped for almost an hour in his part of town. Well that was all I needed so off I went to meet him at a site we call the dump which had houses there in the 1800-1950s that were then cleared to make a park. This site in dry season is hard digging, but the ground now is waterlogged, so much easier digging, however with several decades of man-made iron and ground mineralization, everything in the ground was lit up like the 4th of July! This site has a bunch of modern non-ferrous trash on top of the older iron and non-ferrous trash, and has been hunted extensively so it's always kind of hit or miss as to whether you'll find anything good there. Well this seemed like a chance to get friendly with the General program with the V1.1 update. I have sporatically played with General and @F350Platinum's Relic Reaper program since V0.71, but my goto has always been Fast variations for relic hunting and @Rattlehead's Silver Slayer program for coins and jewelry shooting. With all the wet ground, this seemed like the perfect scenario to see what the stock V1.1 General program would do. The only changes I made were to bump the Reactivity to 2.5 and change from 2 Tones to Full Tones with High Sqr audio. There was a noticeable taming of the ground signals and I was able to pick out some decent non-ferrous items. Needless to say, I liked the way General handled the soaking wet ground. I switched back & forth on targets with my Fast programs and General to see if there were any differences and there were. Fast overloaded easily while General allowed the good signals through better. Now I probably could have dialed in my Fast programs at some point to better deal with the wet, but I really wanted to see what General's Subtractive frequencies could do and it did not disappoint. I will definitely be exploring General some more. My finds on the "mudlarking" hunt include a hotel tag from the Alamo Hotel (1882-1968) which is probably a very early one, a decorative wall or door clip which may be related to the same hotel found about 6 feet from the tag, a Peters Victory shotgun cap (1911-1915), a possible valve stem cap marked "DILL CLEVELAND-O", and a very decorative metal strap or clip with an ornate water sceen on it. Does anyone know what that may be? So the exploration of V1.1 continues as the weather permits.
  10. I get that, and there's a lot to be said for being comfortable with your detector. But for me, the High Sqr audio and Max Frequency settings are a game changer so I'm willing to take a step back and learn all the new ins and outs just to have those two features. IMHO V1.0 had a few too agressive changes to try and satisfy everybody, which can't be done anyway. V1.1 seems to have dialed that back a bit and now, at least with my first four hunts with 1.1, it seems like a much more enhanced version of V0.71. One thing I'm learning is that this (and V1.0) made the D2 a much hotter running machine, and specially the Audio Response and Silencer and added features like Audio Filter and FT Offset to give even more control and I haven't even started to explore those changes yet. I can say it has helped to go with the stock Audio Response setting of 4 (and even 3 in some cases) and I start hunting with Silencer of 0 and raise it becomes necessary to tame the iron, which is usually not above 2 in my hot iron dirt. Silencer settings 0-2 are more gradual filtering like in V0.71 and 3-7 are more beefed up settings ala V1.0. Dialing back just Audio Response and Silencer have made my D2 much more responsive in my mineralized soil and iron filled dump sites and, IMHO, separate and unmask better. Running the machine too hot in my conditions just causes too much blow back, so at this point in my new learning curve, less is more.
  11. Thanks! I did end up notching 7-30 just to give my ears a break and it did help quite a bit. I just wish I could notch out lead! It sounds so good but it comes up in all the "good numbers". 😏
  12. Now those are some great hauls, PI-Man, well done, and congrats on all the silver and gold! Hope you and mn90403 both have fast recoveries and can get back to doing what you love soon!
  13. Thanks, amigo! There was another visitor who refused to leave and had to be dispatched, a 5 foot rattler. I didn't see that one but one of my surface finds was a smaller rattler tailbuttons. Fortunately, the snake was not attached! πŸ™‚ You're right, if I had gotten over a coin, I probably would have hit it even in a frazzled state of mind. Once I setteld down, everything was normal, so it was my own fault. Yep I used the D2 and it was just a week before the V1.0 update, which in retrospect may have been a good thing, but V0.71 did great once I got it dialed in, in fact many of the best finds that trip were made by other D2 users with V0.71. I sure would like to go back back with V1.1! Unfortunately the club only goes there every other year, but oh well, I'll be ready next time! πŸ˜‰
  14. How about this one? XP Aerial Antenna with 115cm Cable for Deus II Metal Detecto
  15. I didn't get a chance to post this earlier, but a few weeks ago I got to go back to the site of my first ghost town hunt. It's one of my detecting club's permissions that has been hunted for probably 30 years of the club's 50 year history. My first hunt there 2 years ago was a daunting experience to say the least. If you've never done relic hunting, specially on a site that once had almost 2000 people living and workng there, then you cannot even imagine what that's like. The tons of iron and coal throughout the area makes every detector go nuts and a few detectorists too. πŸ˜‰ There are other inhabitants on this site as well. A couple of local boys wanted to crash the hunt, but they didn't have their club cards on them so they were politely asked to leave. 😏 I was very excited to get back to this site hoping for some really old coins and artifacts now that I have had a few years of training and felt I was ready for the big game. Well let me tell you, it only takes hunting a few hours of hunting with 30 pro detectorists to to put you in your place and one of the big lessons I learned was that detecting is 50% physical and 50% mental. I started the first day rushing around to get out the door on time for the long drive to get to the site on time and discovering a few block from my house that my rear tire was flat. That set the tone for the day. I got that fixed and flew like the wind and just barely made it to the meetup on time. When we get to the site, I rush around getting my wife's detector set up and ready to go, grab my detector and climb through the barbed wire fence and discover I forgot my shovel, so I climbed back through the barbed wire, grab my shovel and slither back through the fence only to find I forgot my gloves... Auuuughhh! I run the gauntlet again with gloves in hand and finally get ready to hunt and my remote control lock mount decides to break off. Fortunately I have a couple of backups in my pack.... but I forgot to pack my little screwdrivers.... just shoot me! I manage to flag down one of my detecting buddies and he graceously stops his hunt to rescue me. When he returned to hunting, he was promptly rewarded with a beautiful 1876 Seated Liberty Dime with CC mint mark! By the time I get out on the field my brain is fried and I spend the next several hours finding junk while everyone around me was finding ancient coins and wonderful artifacts. That's when I just took a time out to get my head together. After I settled down and ate a sandwich I went back to the field and my training kicked in. I discovered everything I was doing wrong and adjusted accordingly and then the finds started popping out of the iron. There were some amazing finds made over the 2 days at this site by some great detectorists, not by me of course, but I did find a few interesting things and learned an invaluable lesson. Keep a cool head, remember your training, and most of all respect the skills of your mentors! They all did well and deservedly so. I look forward to day that I reach that level of Zen. Well done my teachers! One of my cooler finds was this tiny heart pendant or rosery piece: Here's a dime for size comparison: Unkown disc, possibly a coin or token piece but no discernible markings. Oil lamp wick mount with 1872 & 1873 patent dates: Mostly iron and lead trash:
  16. For those that were looking for these, Serious Detecting has the Black 250 cm, 115 cm, and 65 cm D2 Wave Guide cables in. They also have all those lengths in the clear cables as well. https://www.seriousdetecting.com/products/?filter_compatible-xp=xp-deus-ii&orderby=date&filter_product-category=parts-accessories 😎
  17. Great hunt, Kaolin, congrats on the Silver pendant and it looks like you got a ring and a matching pair of earrings too, well done!
  18. I read somewhere to make sure the WS devices are not on or paired during updates, but I don't think I even did that during this last update. Maybe the WS6 is supposed to be on. I did the remote first and then the WS6 and then WSA-II and it went ok. Now that I think about it, the WS6 wasn't paired to the remote so it wasn't on when I updated the remote, but the WSA-II was paired to it and they turned on when I turned the remote on to update, weird. Well glad you got it to work. Maybe we're supposed to update the remote first and then the rest.
  19. Good haul, F350 and congrats on the 3 rings and the Wheatie, well done! And thanks for the beach reports, we're not seeing a lot of those yet since the last update. It looks like you didn't dig any iron at all. Very nice!
  20. Great report, Colonel, thanks for taking the time to do that. Pull tabs are the detectorist's curse for sure.... well that and zinc pennies! πŸ˜„ I've been trying to learn some new tricks to get around pull tabs, but as you say, they come in all conditions and metal compositions. Broken and bent pull tabs, and specially the beaver tails off of ring pulls can sound so good and even ring up like nickels. I was using primarily PWM audio in V0.71 and could sometimes hear the differences in the sound of irregular metals such as can slaw, pull tabs, and ring pulls. Since updating, first to V1.0 and then to V1.1, I've been using High Sqr audio almost exclusively and really like the sounds and the nuances that can be heard in it as well. I've found by rotating 90 degrees (and sometimes 360Β°) on a suspect target, if it is a whole pull tab or ring pull, the target will change TID and sounds (specially in Full Tones) most of the time. Also most tabs and pulls sound a little less solid than a coin or ring, but a ring pull with a missing or folder over beaver tail will sound exactly like a ring most of the time. Also folded or rounded can slaw will sound good too. I also use Deus Mono with the XY screen to interrogate iffy targets if I can't decide with the usual methods and it is usually very helpful in ferreting out good targets from bad. But as the good Colonel and so many others have said, when in doubt, dig it out! That's the only way you'll know for sure. 😎
  21. Thanks F350, that helped me track the coin down. It's a 1957 25 Satang (1/4 Baht), 95% copper & 5% aluminum. Decoding the date was a whole thing, but I got there. 😎
  22. Update: Hunt # 2 with V1.1 So rather than start a new thread I decided to just show the results from my short 2nd hunt with V1.1 yesterday. This was about a 2 1/2 hour hunt at an older park that one of my detecting buddies told me had been hammered hard since the 70s and lots of old silver coins came out of there. I was hoping there might still be one hidden there, so I made a quick run before the afternoon rainstorm came in. This very small park is well manicured and clean as a whistle. There was no surface trash and the daily rain has made the grass about 3-4 inches high and the ground is damp. I ran V1.1 in the same config as the first hunt a couple of days ago, Fast, Disc 6.8, Notch 7-30, Full Tones, High Sqr, Sensitivity 95, Reactivity 1.5, Silencer and B.Caps 0, Iron Vol 7, Audio Response 4, FE TID on, Audio Filter 0. There were almost no signals anywhere except for occasional deep iron grunts. I played with lowering my Reactivity to 0 but there just weren't any signals. I figure that place still gets detected pretty often. When I got near a grove of trees I started geting the familiar ring pulls and pull tabs, but I was able to call each one before I dug and also the few bits of canslaw I dug by also checking them with Deus Mono in the XY screen. That was dead on for every bit of trash with squiggly lines and wildly jumping numbers. The only bits that fooled me were the broken off beaver tails which rang up and sounded very much like nickels. However, one signal I thought was another beaver tail ended up being a 6 inch deep 1964 nickel. There was still minimal iron falsing and most was really easy to tell with a 90 degree turn on the signal and also by the iron tone being right with the false. I was also able to trace the end of the iron object with the pinpoint mode and if the high number was at the edge it was obviously iron. The big rusty nail I dug was about 7-8 inches deep, oriented with the head up, and threw an occasional 90-91. It was very iffy but I had to check it out. The iron washer was also deep and just gave an iron tone but sounded round so I dug it partly because there were so few good targets. As I was heading back across the open area to my car I got a solid 80 which I thought might be a bottle cap, but just sounded too good for that and it was a foreign coin of some type. I haven't figured out where it's from yet, so if anyone knows, please let me know. About 10 feet from there, I got pretty solid 76-78. It was just a little too solid sounding to be a ring pull so I popped it up and out comes a .925 silver cross pendant. Woohoo, silver # 11 for the year. I've found 6 pieces of silver since January before the update. I've found 5 pieces of silver since the V1.0 update (3 with V1.0 and 2 with V1.1) so far this month. I only found 15 pieces of silver last year with the D2. That may not mean anything, but then again, it might. 😏
