  1. Got you DDancer, initially I considered the 19" coil was a totally different beast to the 14" not so sure now. I`ll be trying same conservative settings next time I use the 14". No the holes weren't big arse holes, once I`d cleared the debris and couple of inches of the surface to get the coil closer to the targets, the 19" centred nicely, targets were a clear signal then and I went the rest with a 6ft bar, holes from then on were only 1.5ft in dia, varying a little as I moved wash rocks, otherwise hard dry clay. Gold is eluvial, on a gentle slope had not got into the creek, very little alluvial gold in country I detect now. No cap rock as in WA nor calcite, thus no need for a massive hole. Love the (fairly recent purchase) Whites TRX for this as it has the best depth right at the tip I`ve encountered in a pinpointer. I`ve rarely used a pinpointer on gold only for coins but I grabbed it when I went back to vehicle to get the bar. Worked a treat. Interesting tit bit, the transmit tip of the 19" (protrudes forward and rearward of receive coils) picks up the signal as you get close at reduced sensitivity, handy feature, just poke down hole with coil standing up or as close to as you can get.
  2. OK, I`ve revisited a patch found with the Z 14", flogged with the Z and a 5000 with a new age 14" coil,(two of us) revisited it with the 19", spent 9 hours for ziltch with my hot settings I used with the14", went back this morn for a 3 hour detect with the 19" used JPs conservative settings and I`m stoked. Is the 19" worth its weight in gold, you bet. Tis magic but this old fella is knackered, pick and crowbar holes in 45deg heat at 8 in the morn. Don`t feel sorry for me it was bloody magic, Thank You JP. DDancer we may need to rethink our settings, especially volume, operating the Z at low noise may be more productive, certainly has shown to me to be so with the 19", reminds me a bit of the VLF hot or conservative debate days. Pinpointing was no drama, dug directly over nuggets (coil centre), finished off digging them out last couple of " using pinpointer and pick point carefully.
  3. Crikey, KL, what are you letting loose in OZ. Put him back on his lease quick.............
  4. You beauty Paul, temps dropped 20 deg here already. Think I`ll mount a LCD screen on the Z and watch that as I swing in our downunder summer...............
  5. DDancer, Further "playing" with volume, has eliminated what I thought might be machine variance. The 19" may have illustrated a folly in the way I have used the 14", but that is easy to prove or disprove by simply going over the old ground with the 14" again with the conservative settings. I do know that during the first few months of using the 14", I used the default settings and did well, when scanning some of those areas again with higher volume, lower threshold and no audio smoothing I only picked up small sub grammers, that would have probably been picked up with the default settings had I simply slowed down. But at this stage it does appear the 19" requires those conservative settings, even HY as JP points out is giving better recognition of deep targets than I found general did on the 14". Basically we are just going where JP has been, but this also points out the Z certainly is a amazing machine and so much is reliant on our individual hearing as Dale of the GHs has spoken of and illustrated. That individuals hearing ability was also so for the VLFs and the PIs, no doubt ones hearing deteriorates with age which just adds to the mix. Exciting times as always.
  6. Many Thanks JP, the 19" is a diff beast than the 14" for me. With the 14" I just walked onto gold, (just thought I was a legend.....) no drama but the 19" is taking more to get myself up to speed. I think I`ve caused this by having my volume up to even 16, worked with the 14" but not with the 19". I can see I`ve gotta retrain myself and get a better understanding of ZVT and importantly listen to the young fella........
  7. Hang in there Paul, I can feel one coming on. Yes I take my hat off to the GHs, just love their videos but they have nothing to prove, neither does anyone else. Only real way to prove the 19" is do it yourself, I suspect in 6 months all the drama over the ability of the 19" will be buried as was the case of the Z originally. I bought one on MLs past machines gold producing ability, as I did the 19", I know I wont be disappointed in what the 19" comes up with either. It will pay for itself many times over. Go the GHs
  8. Tis true about air test, but would be good if that ground was as easy as air to get out of the way to get at the nugget. Dug a bloody 50kg waterworn rock out of hard dry clay, top of it down about a foot, bottom about a mile, moment I hit it I knew it was the signal, but no I had to get it out to confirm the bloody foot of Gibraltar wasn`t under it. Lucky it was only just over 40C, and under a shady tree. Bloody crazy hobby we whoops "some" people have............
  9. DDancer, Reading through your posting, one thing has stood out your threshold settings are in the range I use, or close to I vary between about 0-15 (audio smoothing off, varying sensitivity) most are using threshold settings in the 20`s which with audio smoothing off is way too high for me. I cannot understand how one would pick up those slight changes with such a high threshold. Works for me and obviously works for you. My volumes in the same range, is it a variance that our machines have?
  10. Like all machines, it is the operator that makes it, early on in my use I used the reset function a bit because I`d get it out of "wack" ie my fiddling would produce results that lead me to believe the Z had a fault. Returning to the factory default taught me I was the fault, once this is accepted by a operator, the machines potential can be exploited. The Z has a ability that is still amazing me, and I suspect that will be so for many more years. My message to new chums is leave it in its default if it is not getting you gold, your simply either not putting it over gold or not hearing what it is telling you plus of course not going slow and low. Detecting gold is a mental exercise, if your not feeling positive are frustrated and lost your patience better to sit under a shady tree and drink, but for the new chum it is very hard to get this and even harder to get this message across to them. Not necessarily to just the new chum either, I`ve learnt a lot from my son who hasn`t got a 1,000th or more of the time I`ve had behind a detector. He kills me consistently.
  11. That certainly is a concise positive report, they are starting to filter in, tis got me getting itchy to get out amongst it. For me I just trust MLs comparison with the 14", ordered my 19" many months ago. Be tops to see Nenads & the GHs report.
  12. The swing arm is probably going to be a must, Jokes aside I`ve another hipstick coming to add to left hip, well to trial anyway. Suspect we are going to have to carry our picks as when mounted high on back it interferes when recovering. No doubt someone will come up with a harness as we get down the track.
  13. It is the moderators that keep the Naysayers out, for that we have Steve to thank, he removes their posts pronto. I did witness such early in this thread.
  14. Got you Dave, I`m guilty of never using a man made test bed, it is out in the field in Momma Natures test bed where my swinging is done, hopefully weather permitting I will soon be running my 19" over ground that proved (to me) minelabs Zs 40% gain over the 5000 with the coils at that time. I say that because I believe the new age coils narrowed that gain somewhat. I have faith in MLs marketing "claims" their machines have consistently came up with the goods for me since they become involved in this game. I do know one thing, I will need a better harness system then I have used with the 14", perhaps I`ll join the "Stranger with the hipstick on each hip".
  15. Jasong, I agree with you in principal, unfortunately incorrect data brings results that doesn`t lead to advancement as history portrays over and over. Tis reality that humans make mistakes, my data on the 19" is in conflict with other data so far but it is far to early and imprudent for me to even consider adding my data to the mix, and as experience has taught me in regards to detectors and coils, use of such is a very personal experience. Thus my data will certainly be false to some, that data only has to lead me to gold, tis a individual thing certainly not a reflection on a persons character.
  16. The clue to those negative reports is to look back in the past and check out those same people and the reports they gave when the Z originally came out. Then look down the track a bit and if you look closely and are a real detector detective you`ll find the answer. Take notice of these early reports, don`t get a 19", tis good for those who have a 19".
  17. Many thanks for that, yes I was contacted by importer about mod sent it back for mod, by time I`d received it back had a Garret A2B which in those days was loosely equivalent to the Z today. Whilst I did use it after mod, it just was not up to the A2B in the gold field. But it did well before the A2B and I prospected with fellows using Whites 6000D & Garett DSs and believed it had the edge on them. You have solved what Mod was for as I`ve lost all documentation and a lot of Memory. ie brain is fragmented badly.
  18. No No No, Paul not the littleuns show us the biguns. Crikey SS he`s holding out, been running around with a 19" for 10 days at least and shows us a few scraps, don`t weaken, hold firm.
  19. Yeah, running with 0 threshold might go against the "norm" but like you Condor I`ve also found it is another trick up our sleeves. One of the many ways to operate our machines that just aren`t mentioned in the manuals, but works out there. In OZ we call it Bogenes after the old codger that advocated it yonks ago.
  20. Wears a hipstick on each hip and eternal grin on the dial, approach with extreme caution. Could have drooling partners following to ambush.
  21. Nah your just protecting him, he`s out there getting a head start with the 19", bloody nuggets like hens eggs and a few Emu egg size and he`s gonna let you have a go if your lucky (after he`s cleaned up the US that is). But he`s being very quiet, maybe he has moved to OZ already??????????
  22. Well I have it on good authority, that at least 1 fellow other than JP has a 19" coil in this 4M, you`ll know who it is if you check who has been absent from posting lately, the lad/lads are being very coy, rumour is amongst all the little ones he`s got a bigun.
  23. Tis the nature of us huuumans........... show what your get and some huuumans decide they are rings ins (cos they can`t find em or whatever) don`t show and some huuumans decide your holding back (cos your just a greedy bugger or whatever). Tis the nature of our species regardless of race, applies not only to gold. "Gold brings out the best in his ingenuity, worst in his nature." I don`t know who we owe this Quote to, but he/she was on the money. Can`t wait til Nov 14 coil (release day in OZ), tis bloody hot out there but wild horses wont hold the 19" back.
