  1. This thread has me leaning definitely towards the CTX as my first vlf in, bloody hell on thinking, 20 years. Few weeks ago wasn`t even considering a VLF, thanks fellows. Got a fair few tailings and trash sites I`ve avoided for too long.
  2. From videos, and own use, forget up and down with the GPZ coil, always side to side as per searching over a target. Constant height over ground, wider holes, no real difference from all other motion detectors I`ve used. Perhaps even consider it a habit to avoid especially with the GPZ. This is just my observation, will try up & down myself next positive signal out of curiosity.
  3. Would be exciting to relive the 80`s as we did in OZ, all over again in Africa today, but this old codger is very content to have had the privilege of participating in those 80`s. No way to know but I have a feeling, more gold was got with those ancient vlf`s in those 80`s than the PI`s in 2000`s in OZ. Certainly not knocking the PI`s or what we have now fellows, embrace our new tech tis magic. Go our ZVT`s.
  4. Goddess of gold was on my side, just started it up in default followed on screen dirx, 5 minutes later started picking up pieces. Hour later no more signals started buggerising with settings, got GPZ into a unstable position, reset to default and back into it again. Simple early lesson, reminds me of the days way back with the Deepseeker & A2B, belief was you turn up everything you could, really making machine unstable and unusable. But a lot run around like that regardless of taking notice of the clear Garret instructions to turn sensitivity down to suit ground conditions and have as stable a threshold as possible. That was a bit difficult with those old machines, but simple with the GPZ.
  5. Reading this thread, think it might be time I added a vlf for those trash areas I`ve always avoided, and perhaps one of those industrial magnetic brooms to pick up the surface iron. Anyone had a go with one?
  6. Top thread this one, as yet cannot offer any more, basically am just following Steve and JP`s recos and really they are the fellows who have had the "coil on the ground". Only definite for me at present the reset is certainly a top feature, gets you out of the pooh. Impatiently waiting for winter and prolonged trips, this old codger has had enough summer prospecting. Getting soft. Vic
  7. You take your time, swing that Z carefully and may The Goddess of Gold come across, meantime will be considering other features but I think for me a simple script will suffice. There is no urgency, Enjoy the Z. Many Thanks Vic
  8. Jasong, I will use your script if it converts the GPS data from Minelabs mlx file to kml nice and easy rather than the involved process I posted earlier. I don`t believe there will be any security problems unless we go online with it. Even then I`ve never worried too much about others finding my patches, have often put a newchum detectorsoris onto a nugget, the reward is the experiencing all over again that first nugget joy. At the same time it is totally understandable for people who rely on gold for their living to be cautious..
  9. Gold Hound, Be well assured I haven`t been where you are, but it is the same type of country as I prospect in geologically, be assured also I have no interest in where you are, got 100 years to go where I am. I am very content and privileged with the gold I have got, what you get is for you and because you do the footwork, the best of fortune to you, just keep those videos coming pleaseeeeeeeeee! I just do know how important that the GPS+software has become to my prospecting and at my age wish to pass on to others. To me the days of secrecy are over to an extent, probably forgot most of them , dunno , to know that others are on to this also is tops. Let us convey the message to Minelab. I note JP is not commenting, the wise owl. Come on JP do you find the GPS & moving map software useful.
  10. Two days after I first used the GPZ, sent email to dealer outlining what we are about here, I asked him to send onto Minelab. Well to ensure Minelab got that have just sent direct to them, although it may be deleted by Secretary, Imagine they get a lot of such, but this is good that the candle is burning well. For me ditch Exchange & Google, bring on Oziexplorer, not only for security purposes but moving map software is the go. But to Minelabs defence, they may not be aware of functionality of such software, plus getting the GPZ to us with existing software was more important.
  11. Barry, No luck PMing file, but Steve has just posted that he`ll email a mlx file. Gold Hound, No drama, I know where your at, I`ve been there. Is good to know I am not the lone ranger re. gps + software. My intent certainly wasn`t to pry or gain secrets. But that another prospector uses gps`s as I do, does make me think it is something I should pursue with Minelab and on this forum, like you the faults that aren`t mapped are certainly of interest. Trust you folks will keep the videos coming.
  12. Gold Hound, I carry a Toshiba R500 + usb gps receiver with my software in toyota, my motorbike days are over, the R500 probably like your Rugged Tablet has a transflective screen which allows viewing in sunlight. But in my pocket always whilst prospecting is a smart phone with Oziexplorer app and geo maps. Before that a dedicated GPS, suspected this when I noticed tablet and your speaking of faults. Have to chew some fat with you fellows one day, not interested in your spots, the countries type the same as mine, no just because we are on the same wavelink re gps+software. Barry, I`ll have a shot at PMing a mlx file to you, if unsuccessful I`ll get back as am pretty well a virgin at forum use.
  13. I like that sentiment, "I hope I never grow up", reminds me of a line from a song "When I grow up I wanna be a kid". Your enthusiasm is infectious, love to be present when you score a nugget. The best of fortune to you Professor.
  14. I went through the research stage it works, now I just go into new fringe country using GPS and moving map software combined with digital geo maps, follow the known faults and work the creeks. Once a creek proves up electronically loam the slopes. Sometimes a new line is found that doesn`t follow a known fault. I guess the challenge of finding new gold country drives this. This has proven to me, two old sayings 1. that gold is probably the most distributed metal and 2. Tis where tis. Have found gold associated with country that "it shouldn`t" be eg coal and limestone country, with no obvious quartz. Of course in lean times resort to going back to old spots. But I have the luxury of age and the fortune ( not luck) to have done moderately well. Is a lot of footwork but that is in itself a joy but it is a lonely quest and probably why as we age gold leads us to being lone eccentric wolves. Philosophical stuff I know, but is where I`m at.
  15. The below link will take you to directions for converting Minelabs mlx files into google earths kml file. You do not use Exchange2, just access your GPZ as if it is a usb stick. kml files can be imported into Oziexplorer. http://p.briggs.home.comcast.net/~p.briggs/CTX3030/CTX3030%20TRACK%20DATA%20EXTRACTION.htm Whilst I am far from an expert on Oziexplorer I use it always, I can help anyone who genuinely may wish to go this way. I also do not have any interest in Oziexplorer, I just consider it is a top tool for prospecting and like Minelab is Ozie. Vic
  16. It appears I am the only one that has a problem with the GPS software on the GPZ, JP and Steve do you use moving map software such as Ozies Oziexplorer, USA`s Fugawi etc? I note one of the Gold Hounds has such mounted on Mtrbike. I use and have used a GPS almost as long as a detector, to combine it with the detector is a logical step, to me that is. Not about safety from getting lost, is about lowering the amount of country to detect. Find a run of nuggets, clean up but which way to the next shed, if you`ve found that run on a fault follow the fault, but if there is no mapped fault, look back at two runs follow same direction, it`s there, it is not luck, there is a pattern.
  17. Argyle, I`ve got 13 years plus on you so hopefully I`ll invest in a GPZ 7100, but if you believe the GPZ 7000 has the go, which I have no doubt it has, why not go for it. I knocked them running the GPZ too "hot", but I would not do so with their use of the 5000, they have the runs on the board. I just know from my preliminary use of the GPZ, there is no need to "pump it up", well not for me anyway. But then I`m not young and impatient, I know I`ve had a magic run and are privileged, no need to rush into a gold rush.
  18. Steve, Tall poppy syndrome yes, but I disagree with that articles assertion that it came from our convict past, if it had, we`d never developed the way we did in our first 200 years, no it is a more modern disease, we have become a spoilt nation of underachievers who require spoon feeding. Indicative of this, the GPZ 7000 is made in Malaysia, I guess we should be content that at least the R & D and brains behind it are OZies. If you follow OZ news you`ll also note the whole OZ Mining Industry is ridiculed, but hypocritically we ride on its back. No I understand completely JP`s attitude towards the knockers. I only hope the GPZ 7000 can breath some life back into Codan`s (Minelab)share price, I selfishly want a GPZ 7100 in a few years. Giancarlo, "Who does not love me does not deserve me", Can I please flog that saying, tis a ripper, my wife`s Italian, Pleaseeee.
  19. JP, I`ve got to agree with your annoyance with OZ armchair prospectors, they exist also in the fishing forums and probably others. I go further and feel it is a symptom of a sad disease inflicting a lot of OZies, things just have to be handed to them, hard workers who get ahead are to be ridiculed. In a country where we are losing our technology and brains to overseas, Minelab should be put on a pedestal, it is sad. On the bright side, if they all had the drive to succeed there would be less gold out there.
  20. argyle, Is true that the GPZ 7000 will be followed by models with refinements that further enhance ZVT technology, we experienced that from the SD 2000 to the GPX 5000, also true that a lot of gold was found by the SD 2000. I suspect a Gold Hound video that hasn`t been made yet will show a lot of GPZ 7000 gold, although they may be doing that now, their young and weatherproof. Problem is it takes years of R & D to get there, meanwhile we keep aging and our feet can no longer do the yards so easily. Embrace the GPZ, learn how to use it, I reckon the Gold Hounds will, and I will if the feet let me.
  21. Got to agree, Gold Hound videos will be important part of the history of the electronic gold rush, not for just the gold but the feel the watcher is a participator. They are unique something that will be watched with awe in a hundred years or so. We are very privileged to live in this era, keep them coming this vegemite gives you a ten. There`s a rum at my digs anytime fellows. Tremain knows where I`m at.
  22. That`s it D-TEX, yeah they had a little edge on the A2B when the A2B was king. In some ways I miss those pre-PI days, less of us about. Lot of surface gold in places sometimes multi signals on each sweep for many meters, the beginning of the electronic gold rush.
  23. Gold Hound Next time I run into Tremain, will have a chat with him, firstly to apologise for incorrect spelling of name (shouldn`t listen to teacher missus), and then to see how the GPZ is going. Certainly as stated is early days for GPZ, but so far I`m impressed. Just a wee frustrated as it seemed we were going to have a early start to the prospecting season, now with those cyclones harassing us ?? Love the videos, but they are a bit of a tease on a wet day. GPZ may be weatherproof but I`m not. Vic
  24. Looked at the video, could be wrong but believe Treymane may have turned up sensitivity & volume too high thus instability, perhaps ok for the 5000 but from my preliminary use the GPZ operates very good at the default, I got into trouble early giving it heaps and resorted to a reset. Early days, will have to wait and see.
  25. I have been pretty quiet about how long for my first nugget, but Steve I feel I can say now it took me 3 years of swinging a RB7, and once the A2B come on the scene I know I was walking over it for years. But am probably still doing that, the GPZ is starting to show that is so.
