    Greetings

    Welcome from East Texas.
  3. I often use the recently released 8" Concentric on my Vista X in iron sites that are prone to falsing. I still have Concentrics for my Anfibio Multi, MXT & AT Max. They will often "see" targets that a similar size DD has missed. I would like to see Concentics offered for my SMF detectors like the Legend & Rutus Versa but there seems to be some difficulty with the engineering of that combination.
  4. Let us know what you think after using it for awhile.
  5. The majority of users are probably not the tweekers that we Forum members are, hence, Preset Programs. There are probably also differences in the signal processing that are beyond any user adjustments.

  7. Welcome from East Texas.
  8. I have a friend whose Great Grandfather & Great Uncle were avid local artifact hunters back in the 1920's- 1960's. They would walk the plowed fields & creeks. They were by no means the only ones who did this but they were blacksmiths, and knew everyone & when the fields got plowed. Their collection, that my friend inherited, (and has added to himself) is incredible in the variety & quality of finds.
  9. That certainly is a thought on the tag. Hard to say given where it was found. On the Versa, so far I am pleased with it's abilities on my more difficult sites. Running the introductory software V1.71, it is equal to my Legend running the latest V1.11 as a general purpose machine. The unique features like Dual modes & Multifilter are the potential game changers for me and the reason I bought it. I have seen some evidence of benefit from the Multifilter, the Dual modes need some added adjustment features. Rutus is testing upgrades currently. The EMI Preview screen is unique & very useful. I do not feel I am at much of a disadvantage if I need to go to a single frequency to avoid EMI as I can keep the sensitivity up. The Versa runs extremely smooth in iron trash with excellent separation & unmasking, even in single frequency. It is able to handle my high mineral ground very well also. I am hoping the new software update will be a significant leap forward in performance. This should put the Versa at the head of the class for me & my sites. We will see. I am glad to have it. So far it has performed well and has been a lot of fun to learn & use.
  10. Good to take advantage of the situation/opportunity.
  11. No mining around here per se. The markings actually remind me of stock marks/brands. Brands & stock marks are registered with the County Clerk. I may check their book someday.
  12. Another short mid week afternoon hunt with the Versa yielded a few non descript bits of brass and lead. I used the Park mode for the first time of any length where I had previously hunted in Field mode. Park did hit on some targets that I had missed. Three real keepers for the day were a small brass tag with some unusual markings, a T. A. Fraim brass padlock, and something I never would have dreamed of digging. A 7 1/2 diameter Grinding wheel. It is a manmade stone, so not terribly old. It matches the age of the house that once stood on the site; late 19th-early 20th century. It has a cast lead center for the arbor hole. I imagine it was fitted on a treadle frame. Should make a good display piece. It was about 7" deep. The ground is getting dry again here.
  13. I encourage you to keep & use it some. It is still very capable even by today's standards. It is also a great teacher to learn how a detector operates & how all the settings adjustments effect performance. Modern auto pilot detectors may perform, but they don't connect you to the ground so to speak and can be kind of boring.

  15. Welcome from East Texas. You have come to a good place to learn.
  16. Excellent. I still need to improve my patience level to approach your results. The absence of circulation wear is really something. Thanks for posting the step by step.
  17. The small one is actually a very dark green patina. You can still see some of the staining from the red clay dirt in the crevices. That one required some serious cleaning. The large one is more of a natural mossy brown color as it was dug on a sandy site.

  19. Both were found at early sites that pre date the coming of the railroads in my area. The International RR and the Great Northern RR built through here and crossed each other in 1872. They merged a short time later, and built large shops, some of which are still in operation.
  20. I spent a few more hours with my new Rutus Versa this past weekend. Mostly just field testing and trying out the Dual modes. What little actual hunting I did turned up a "little" old worth posting. The larger one I found on another site about 10 months ago. A barrel spigot is an unusual find any way, but the small one's size seems even more so. Th
  21. A nice assortment there, some with good age on them. I think your plank with lead sheathing & iron bands is from a very old casket. Probably someone who was important. You shouldn't dig so deep in the future, even though they were probably buried with lots of jewelry and a bag of coins. It wouldn't be polite.
  22. That's great. You know there's still a few more hiding.
