  1. Tyres Tyres selection on the CRF150F and the XR150L is very limited, you dont get a good selection until you get CRF250F maybe you should consider getting a good secondhand 250 if tyres are that important they are ok to road register. I know flat tyres well, a flat and no water can kill you very quickly where I operate. I ALWAYS carry a tool kit spare front and rear tubes and a large patch size puncture repair kit, pump and 2L of water on the bike in the pouch mounted on the front of my bike
  2. Interesting stuff. What you are referring to Jasong is called "transmutation'. I have been studying it for some time, they have made gold from mercury in a nuclear reactor. Quote Wikipedia : Gold synthesis in a nuclear reactor[edit] Gold was synthesized from mercury by neutron bombardment in 1941, but the isotopes of gold produced were allradioactive.[12] In 1924, a Japanese physicist, Hantaro Nagaoka, accomplished the same feat.[13] Gold can currently be manufactured in a nuclear reactor by irradiation either of platinum or mercury. Only the mercury isotope 196Hg, which occurs with a frequency of 0.15% in natural mercury, can be converted to gold byslow neutron capture, and following electron capture, decay into gold's only stable isotope, 197Au.: I believe this and other reactions are happening right now under our feet and that non nuclear processes happen also in the presence of other elements like copper with say Iron-minerals as a catalyst and at a low temperature like 2000-3000degc (low compared to the sun or nuclear reactors) and something to help along the frequency shift required to trans-mutate it to the higher order element. They are after all made of the same particle's!
  3. Hi RKC I have a friend who is a real short ass , and what he did is remove the seat and then removed the vinyl cover and trimmed down the foam then re-stretched and secured the vinyl cover again. I think he managed to lower the seat about 80mm by doing this with no sacrifice of comfort. I have ridden his bike and actually thought the modded seat was more comfortable than standard. Just don't tell him he's short ................ he's not short he's vertically challenged I've tried a posty bike before and think they lack power and do not hop over obsticals any where near as good as a trail bike. But if you mostly ride trails which it appears you do I can see it being useful there, particularly if its road registered.
  4. We use the Honda CRF150F electric start bikes as our prospecting bikes. We use the 150's because they are powerful enough to get up steep rocky hill's (no tracks where we go) yet light enough to man handle out of problem situations on your own. And they still easily cruze at 80kmph on tracks, and they have good suspension and good handling off road. And Honda is VEEEERRRRY reliable.
  5. Hi Jasong Our native gold generally runs quite pure, the last lot I sold scanned 98.76%Au 1.3%Ag with minor copper, antimony and arsenic on the XRF scanner. Generally our alluvial gold is over 96%Au.
  6. General is NOT a timing its a lower frequency, it behaves more like the different frequency's on a VLF. And the Ground modes affect how the detector's tracking works, Difficult basically holds more ground info for longer whereas Normal updates and erases certain info quicker. READ THE MANUAL then read it again. The timings on the GPX detectors change the RX waiting/receiving times, an entirely different process, this cuts out a lot more info. Its not my intent to be patronizing with the read the manual comment. I seriously think everyone should read the manual more. I must have read mine more than 200 times now, there is a wealth of information in there
  7. In one of our next videos you will see me find a 50g'er and a few others that make the reverse tone you are talking about. Nearly every large deep nugget I have found has made a reverse tone warble sound. I was in General/Normal when I found them. I have found that General punches way deeper than HY on target's larger than about 15g but the signal is more subtle but carries way further than HY, and the response can be more complex. This 32oz'er @ 1150mm made the reverse tone warble (GPX 5000 20in nf mono) So did this 21oz'er 950mm (GPX 5000 14in nf mono) So you definitely want to be digging any complex warbely sounds! Notice that most gold nuggets are oddly shaped. It is because of this that you get complex or multiple signals back from them what ever detector you use. But the Zed amplifies this effect even more because it has 2x receive winding's!
  8. Hi Steve / Guys That is a verrrrry nice stone thanks for the link Steve I have prospected sapphire and other gems here in oz for many years. Australia has the worlds largest's sapphire deposits at Glen Innis and second largest at Rubyvale and many other smaller fields. Most of the worlds gem quality sapphire actually comes from Australia but gets bought by Thai and Shri Lankan wholesalers then sold as Thai or Shri Lankan stone. A couple of Thai company's pretty much control the world sapphire market and this can make it very hard to sell your parcels of stone at a fair price. Much like DeBeers control the Diamond trade. Im not saying this stone is an ozzy one it would likely be Shri Lankan. The point I am trying to make is that it is very hard too get the real price for your general mine run stones as the market is controlled and volatile. Large or exceptionally unique stones are different though as you can auction them directly to the end buyer at a collectors auction. But finding a stone like that is harder than winning the lottery! Stick with gold Steve as when you find a nugget it is the same as if you found cash! Here is a 1000ct parcel of VSI untreated cut sapphire I found (the smallest stone is just under a ct.)
  9. This ozzy is hanging for a larger coil and once I get it will probably hardly ever use the 14! I would swing an anvil if it would find me more GOLD! The Zed has revolutionized our detecting we have completely changed our modus operandi to best use the strengths of the Zed and regularly clean up in our old area's I don't think I would bother with a smaller coil as the 14 is already so sensitive and depth on larger gold is of more importance to me than cleaning up tiny Speck's.
  10. Hi guys Sorry for the belated response, I have been out detecting for the last 5 weeks. Tremain is an experienced reptile, bird of prey, arachnid keeper/handler/catcher in fact he is one of Australia's best dangerous snake and spider handlers. He used to work in the field for austoxin serum laboratory and in various zoo's and has been the go to dangerous reptile handler for a few of the most famous docco guys. The area we were working in has a low snake density, we would be lucky to see 1 dangerous snake per week and they are usually near a water source, and we are usually operating in the dry hills. And is very hot so we wear shorts. We ALWAYS have a snake bandage and satellite phone in our day packs. We have filmed a few encounters with various dangerous reptiles and will incorporate them into future vids. Some areas have a much higher dangerous snake density and other precautions must be taken. Sometimes we prospect a coastal area where it is not unusual to see 5 or more brown snakes per day! Thanks for the comments Guys Goldhounds appreciate them.
  11. Thanks guys I will be a bit quiet for a while I'm off again tomorrow or the next day on another mission.
  12. Thanks Paul People like you are the reason we make our vids!
  13. Hi Steve Guy's The first vid of season 2015 is now on youtube. I hope you guys enjoy.
  14. I think I'm going to have to get my hands on one of these to try! Nearly bought a fors gold but after trying it I wasn't that impressed and decided to just keep using my trusty gold bug 2. But this one looks like it will render my gb obsolete.
  15. There are a few POV clips in the new vid and I'm now using twin wm12 speaker's instead of headphones so you can hear everything, vids 2 and 3 have over 2 hours of POV footage! So you will get a pretty good idea of how my detector sounds with the settings cranked as I always have em cranked!
  16. I used normal most of the time on the 5k as well. I relly like a lot of ground information coming back at me! Reading this ground info that everyone else calls "noise" can tell you alot about what is happening with the soil minerals. This "noise" that I prefer to think of as "ground information" can actually put you on to auriferous ground. I think people are inherently lazy and take the path of least resistance, in regards to metal detecting the easy option is to use the less sensitive timings or mode's. People always talk about ignoring the noise as well, me I don't ignore any noise I absorb and filter every tiny noise the detector makes and let my mind filter the wheat from the chaff. If you block out the info its not there to process is it?
  17. Thanks Steve Its nice to know that my Post's inspire people of your caliber! I sent you a pm with a few tuning tips that may help you.
  18. Hi steve I never turn the sensitivity down pas 16 and have it at 20 like 95% of the time. Pretty much the only time ive needed to turn it doen is under power lines and in tropical electrical storms. As for audio I also have that cranked too. But with the ground modes and gold modes I change them like the wind changes direction! But my goto combo is general normal, I've found that general goes way deeper than HY but the target response is very subtle and takes a very skilled ear to decipher it out of the noise but the subtle signal just keeps on going way further than HY, even on tiny gold.
  19. The most important skill to try master for metal detecting is hand eye ear coordination. Once you truly master this skill you can swing quicker and work in various adverse soil or atmospheric condition's and still pick up the gold that everyone else missed. Detecting is relativley easy............. Prospecting however is a whole other kettle of fish. Prospecting takes years of experience and dedication to reach even a satisfactory level of proficiency. In all of my years I have only met a very small number of operators that I would say are good prospectors!!!
  20. Here are my best 3 pieces from the last mission 32.3g, 42.3g and 47g Where are the big piece's? Sorry about the shizen houzen photography skill's!
  21. G'day Vic Bogene's settings are not for me. I have my own ideas, I care not about chattery emi noise or a fair bit of ground noise, in fact I like a fair bit of ground noise to tell me whats going on with mineralization under the coil I set mine for deep and small target sensitivity. I like a lot of noise coming back at me, most could not tolerate their detector as noisy as I run mine. But noise is like music to my ears, my gain has hardly ever had to go below 20. You'll hear how noisy it is in the vid. I've found that understanding the Ground Balance is critical with the Zed. I have found that fixed is very useful when you know when and how to best apply it. I've found that the most important thing in all metal-detecting is swing speed/hand eye to ear co-ordination. Most operators never fully master this skill. Once you truly master this skill ground noise or emi doesn't bother you much any more, even if its louder than the target response as the target noise frequency is greatly different to the emi or ground noise to a trained ear, and the target response frequency is directly relative to your swing speed. The swing speed can be varied greatly and used to ID a target from a strong concentrated ground noise.
  22. It was very surprising how much the 5k leaves in the ground, particularly certain types of targets and certain soil types that mask the gold signal. I got a 1oz piece right smack in the middle of a storm gutter that both Tremain and I grided multiple times with 14in, 20in and 25in coils and it was only 6m away from where I got another oz piece last time we were there. We know we both walked right over it multiple times, then I got 3 smaller bits right next to my old 1oz hole
  23. Thanks Guys I'll add the video soon and update this post with the link. Its going to be a ripper of a season. All of the gold we found was from areas that we had gone over with a GPX 5000 and a fine toothed comb. We are starting to get very comfortable with the Zed, there is a lot of extra performance that you can squeeze out of it if you know what you are doing with the settings and understand the ground conditions, target size/depth and type of gold deposit systems in your area.
