  1. Got out for a few hours and hunted the exposed ground above the waterline. Had a productive hunt, I dug a lot of holes as usual. 4 rings for the days, 2 silvers and 2 junkers, tons of clad and 3 pouches full of trash....Dug my 100th ring for the year, gold, silver and the junkers. Almost all of them came from the same lake and from the dry ground that has been exposed because the water level is down this year. I was going to hunt for low conductors, I wasn't in the right frame of mind today. This is one of the most trash polluted swimming spots I've hunted this year. 2-3 hits per swing on the Nox, my time to hunt this lake is limited....so, I chose to maximize my time.
  2. Out Tuesday in the chilly waters (44F) of the Chesapeake bay. Just a little over 2 hours using the Excalibur, not a lot of targets dug. Wondered into a area with several deep targets, most were iron but one turned out to be a 9 gram 10k gold class ring. It was a crazy day and wasted about two hours messing with detectors, gloves, two, one mile walks to and from the beach .. and video cam failure. The Gold ring was a surprise and turned a down day to a great day.
  3. The article describes one 25-year-old fisherman catching sight of something gold in the sand, which turned out to be a medallion. He let his father-in-law know, and soon a number of the town’s residents were engaged in the search, which began in September. https://www.insidehook.com/daily_brief/history/mysterious-gold-washes-ashore-in-venezuelan-fishing-town-guaca If you have a New York Times subscription you can read a more complete article.
  4. I hit a new spot this afternoon for about 3 hours, scored 3 silver rings and a AA token. Doesn't appear to have been hit by anyone else. It's a trash dump and I only dug from 15 and up on the Nox. I think there's some gold hiding at this place. I was hunting in the area from the old shoreline down to the water. The lake level is way down and the targets are rather shallow and easy to recover. I'm going back Sunday and dig from 0 and up, I'll grid an area and begin cleaning it out.
  5. Went back to the same place where I found the AQ's first gold earring. Targets were few and far between. Found the tiny 14K, .6 gram, size 3 1/2 ring. Delay was 8.5 and ATS 1. Bob
  6. This ain’t much 10k 2.2 grams with fake stones. Weather is changing and I’ve just been busier than I need to be. 49 when I got to the beach with a stupid wind.... hit the water and to me not having been in it ... it was cool. Never seen another person swinging a coil anywhere. So looks like some are waiting for more sun. Dug a couple more trash ring.... and very few targets. You just have to find the targets now and move a littler slower.
  7. The Saint Benedict Medal is 10K and weighs .7g. The silver ring is .925 from China. Equinox with 15 inch coil, Beach 1. Worked the wet down the slope into the negative tide area. Thanks for looking.
  8. This was my first multiple gold day since my 7 gold ring day in July. Both the earring and cross are 10K. The cross has 120 small diamonds on it. Sure makes it shinny in the sunlight. The bracelet is SS and is a 2020 Graduation bracelet. Other earring is a junker. I used my Equinox today. Impulse AQ has been sent back to First Texas again. ☹️
  9. Went out this morning to a high tide and hunted all wet sand. Second target I dug was extremely deep and smooth sounding in all directions. I was hunting at 7.5 delay and ATS around 1. After 4 full scoops and with pinpointing carefully done, out came this 14K, 7.9 gram ring with 5 small diamonds. I was pleasantly surprised as our beaches are still sanded in and it was only 10 minutes into the hunt. Another "first" for me is the small Mexican 10c coin.
  10. I absolutely love the extra ground coverage it gives me. Still playing with the settings, today it was running smooth at 18 sensitivity/4 recovery speed underwater and 23 sensitivity/4 recovery speed in the wet sand. After scoring 3 .925 peices doing up and downs on the shore line (found a rusty screw line not a coin line lol), I decided to continue them into the water. Low tide was half an hour away and dawn was slowly approaching. About 10 feet in, on my first line into the water, BAM! Solid 9, 2-4 inches down. The excitement start flowing through my veins. First scoop, Cartier platinum ring. 🤑 Gotta love that Fresh Drop Factor.
  11. I know- gold is always a surprise but when I'm not finding many targets it is even more so. On my last hunt targets were few and far between- even junk was hard to come by. However, I stuck with the plan and at my 4th beach I had what I would call a fluke find in a patch of wet sand where I really wasn't expecting much. The ring has been re-sized and the markings were distorted in the process. When I first found it the back was clogged with sand and the stone looked black so I thought it was an onyx. When I rinsed the sand away I was pleasantly surprised to see the beautiful green color. Other than that I only found 2 quarters, a nickel, some zinc pennies and a little trash in about 3 hours of detecting. Hopefully, there will be a couple more golden surprises before the year ends. GL&HH!
  12. Hello everyone, Got my AQ over a month ago and it had a faulty set of headphones from the get go as one side would intermittently cut on and off. FT wasn't sure about the problem being in the headphones and had me send back the whole machine. It was gone for almost a month. FT gave me a new headset and all is well again. I've been out about 7 times now and just finished a 6 hour water hunt today. The AQ found its first gold today... a small 14K, 1.5 gram earring, silver ring and junk jewelry and 21 coins. I have found a number of gold rings in the past at this spot and have been hunting it for years with 2 different PI's and more recently the Excalibur and Nox. The last time I used the Nox for (5 hours), I found 5 coins and no jewelry. Targets had been very hard to find until today. This was my first time there with the AQ, and there were plenty of DEEP targets that created just a slight bump in the threshold. There is very little trash and I am now learning some differences in the sounds. The first 3 pictures are today. If you notice the coins and jewelry... nothing there are "fresh" drops. All is deep and only one bottle cap that was banging loud and close to the surface along with some other trash. There are also a couple pictures of some of the past days with the AQ. I don't usually take pictures of the trash but will start doing so. Our beaches are really sanded in so pickings are slim. I am using Joe's 11 hour Big Battery, It works great and is just what I need. Stay tuned...Bob
  13. I had about an hour before we were going fishing for fish this morning, so what better to do than to dirt fish? I was trying out a new set of aptX LL BT earbuds that were ordered for when the other ones start to fail. They paired fine, but they certainly were not fast. If I'm running 7 recovery, I don't want them to sound like a 3 recovery. I disconnected them and continued to hunt. About 5 minutes into no earbuds, I got a strong 11 ID. Not knowing what it really sounds like, having taken the earbuds out, I decided to dig as it seemed like a robust signal. The Carrot was able to hit the object from the surface, so it wasn't too far down. There are no markings, but from the looks of it, it appears to be about 18K based on my wedding band at 14K. I believe this makes 10 gold rings/necklaces for the year. To my recollection, all found with the 15" coil with 7 recovery. I remember the first few years of detecting when I found no gold. I really appreciate this machine! Florida weather doesn't hurt either, as it is far easier digging in non-frozen soil year-round! Almost forgot...fished for fish for 4 hours and didn't catch a thing. 🤪
  14. I’d done this post sooner but I’m really under the weather. Anyway, me and Cliff hit the beach Sunday at 4am... why because I forgot to set my clock back. Cliff had his AQ and we wanted to do some testing... but we forgot the targets. So we did do some found target comparison. It reminded me why I don’t do a lot of wet sand hunting. Deep hole and a lot of them wit us concentrating on whisper/weak targets. Cliff did his 5 hours and had one of those days.... he broke his SunSpot scoop. After he left I did another 3 hours. There hasn’t been a lot of targets out there but I managed the silver ring and this nice 375 made in Italy bracelet. 9” long 13 grams .... $325 day I’ll take that. Always great to hunt with friends.
  15. I haven't been able to get out very much due to work and this COVID thing, but the few times I was able to get out were productive. I hadn't used my EuroTek Pro in a long while so I broke it out and found this nice little 10K gold bracelet in school playground a few weeks back. While getting re-acquainted with my new Tek Omega 8500 I found a couple of silver rings. Been going nuts so while I was bench testing last night I decided to throw up a picture. Maybe it will encourage some one to get out and find something. HH Mike
  16. ...hits a big silver chain in his first beach hunt! In baseball a batter has hit for the cycle when they get a single, double, triple and home-run all in one game. I sort of hit for the cycle on a recent hunt by finding an earring, ring, bracelet and neck chain (all sterling silver). However, on the previous day I took a friend along for his first real beach hunt and set him up with my old Whites Pro PI. That day I found 5 rings, all junk save one small silver but my friend scooped out a 26 gram, badly tarnished, sterling silver chain which I took home to clean for him. He hasn't seen it yet but I think he will be pleasantly surprised. My friend's chain is the one on the outer perimeter. My "cycle" finds are inside of it. As much as I would have loved to have found that big silver I was honestly thrilled for him and think that he may now be hooked on the hobby.GL&HH!
  17. Well, my lake hunting days are coming to end due to a move to Hamilton TX very soon. Had a very good day hunting at the waterline as the lake level continues to drop. Ended up with 5 rings, 3 silver, 1 10k class ring and a junk toe ring. 2 of the silver rings are James Avery's. I'll begin to track down the owner of the class ring. I can't make out the year as it's almost completely worn off. But, maybe the school can fill in the blanks. The bigger silver ring hit at 32-34...the other 2, solid 26...the 10k gold ring locked on at 14
  18. Spent a nice day at the beach chasing the tide out. Only found about 8 coins but 3 rings (1 gold, 2 silver), a thin silver chain with silver name tags and a large copper bracelet. When I tried to untangle the silver chain it broke in a couple of places and when cleaning the bracelet I knocked out some mother of pearl inlay. The gold band is stamped 14K and weighs 4 grams. Not the biggest ring but a beautiful sight lying in the wet sand. The bracelet is stamped "Mexico cobre". Cobre is Spanish for copper. Not valuable but a different and fun find. GL&HH!
  19. I wasn't able to take advantage of the great beach conditions this past weekend but I hunted yesterday to see if there were any stragglers left behind. There weren't a whole lot of good targets but I did find about $1.50 in clad, 2 rings, 2 cheap chains and a fair amount a lightweight trash. One of the rings was stainless steel but the other was a hefty sterling silver ring of 14+ grams. Pretty sure that this ring had been there a while because of the tarnish and it was a little bent from tumbling in the rocks, I presume. http://metaldetectingforum.com/picture.php?albumid=832&pictureid=82490http://metaldetectingforum.com/picture.php?albumid=832&pictureid=82491 I would have loved to have found some gold but at least the silver is interesting and a sign that the gold could have still been within reach. Maybe next time! http://metaldetectingforum.com/images/smilies/yes.gif __________________
  20. After my success at the beach the night before I was ready for another 'bite' of it. Conditions were almost the same with all new sand and targets minus a few I found the day before! haha Now that I knew targets should still be there again I went with the tide down as far as I could go until near the hard pack. As you can see it was another productive hunt. This time someone showed up and 'infringed' on my hunting style but I adapted. I still got 47 quarters, 55 dimes, 19 nickels and 28 pennies in addition to a couple of the most unique finds for me ever. I was on a slow grid to get everything that sounded with the 15" coil. To do that the coil speed has to be slower in order to get the 8" plus 10s to be loud enough to dig. This has been part of my learning curve with the 15 on the beach. At one time I thought of it as 'finicky' but now I know that was mostly my impatience and not the coil. Any way here are the finds. As you can tell it was another 'good' ring night as far as the count goes but most silver and only one gold. The silver rings total 8.5 grams. The gold items were a Jesus pendant at 4.4g/14k and the 1.3g/14k ring. Now for the 'unusual' stuff. Early in the session I had dug a deep mostly negative target. It was down 14-15 inches. It turned out to be the rust covered crescent wrench. Later on while working slow I got a little 10ish signal and it kept dropping through my scoop. When I looked at it I could hardly believe what I was looking at. A tiny crescent wrench! It is not a working wrench but who could believe I find a .84 gram wrench by itself. Another thing I found was a silver chain that weighs 6.3g. To top off the session I had gotten another '10-11' and it was dropping through my scoop also. When I finally got it in my hand I couldn't really believe what I was looking at. It was a gold nugget! How could I explain this? Was it a part of a jewelry piece? No, it wasn't solid and then it hit me. It was gold and it was from a tooth. It also had the hollow on one side. The waves had kicked out a 'nugget' that weighs .73g and I found it with the 15" coil. So those were two really odd finds with very similar ID. I attempted one more hunt on the beach but there was a squadron of detectorists on it. I consider this session to have given up 7 more rings for a total of 17 in two days. It is my best beach. Mitchel
  21. Big day at the lake today. I found the cross first then all the pieces to the chain scattered out in an area about 4'x8'. The cross read in the low 20's, the pieces hit 6-8. Went to another spot, found the stud earring, then the silver ring and finally the 14k ring. All found in the dry beach area with Nox 800. The 14k ring hit at a solid 10. 22. Had a real nice Low Monday, Neg .9 ..........the hardest thing. Deciding which beach to hit. Narrowed down to 3, the one I chose is not "AQ" friendly, and at this point I still don't feel safe walking into this spot with a PI...For many reasons. Excalibur was perfect, hunting in PP, using the push button to check targets in Disc, Very fast and efficient. I've been using the "AQ' most of Oct, doing a lot of different testing and forgot how much I love the Excalibur also. Seems I had started feeling if I took the Excalibur I was missing targets. But after Mondays blowout I see it's still a very important part of the team. Walking out at this spot........ water was very low .........I went as deep as I could then started listening for targets and feeling/checking the bottom....... for the good stuff lies in a blackish/grey sandy shelly bottom, ......I started hitting some iron/nulls so slowly worked my way thru each and everyone..3 hours and 19 minutes I had three gold rings..then I went exploring...something I do that kind of helps plans out the next trip. Ended up about 4 hours total, never really found anymore openings...but things are moving. Onto another spot Weds...maybe the "AQ"..⚡ End totals 3 gold and 3 silver dimes...silver badly eaten by the bays nasty water. Stay Safe and Healthy..Joe Short video of the first gold ring found, shows how the wind is whipping .........blowing off shore...water was nasty facing into...
  23. Found this 14K with diamond 2 days ago. Never expected to see that in the scoop and only 45 minutes into the hunt. Not many targets and all were light weight.
  24. Five Golden Rings in the month of May with the Equinox 600 in Park 2 with no special settings or tweaks. The Nox sounds really nice on gold targets just like other quality detectors and the numbers are very solid. I only wish they could have all been diamonds and 14K. Why am I complaining........they're gold!!!! Everybody here in the USA stay safe and be careful out there. Jeff
  25. I don't have words to describe what the last couple months have been. I just know that finally I hitted this morning one ring over a wine red clay, after two days In a new spot, freediving with heck of rough water yesterday and quitted for real unacceptable danger. I fighted against the monkey since last August end and finally won this morning... I don't care the weight and the numbers, I just want to enjoy the shine again as a therapy. I hug You all.
