Gold Screamer Power Packs.....are They Worth It ??

Recommended Posts

Would like some help/advice again please folks regarding these 'Doc Screamer Power Packs',as i understand it they are mainly used to reduce the overall weight by doing away with the large factory battery pack,i will be running it on my GPX 4500 but not for nugget hunting but deep pasture and ploughed sites here in the UK....so my question is my learned friends are they worth the pretty steep investment in this battery package or do folks use other 'reliable' options ??

I wont be using a external speaker because i will be using full cup headphones all the time as the temperatures dont get as hot as say in Aussie land during the peak summer months, even during the hottest days here i will then usually use the XP Deus wired backphones which in my opinion produce amazing audio quality at such a cheap bargain price.

Many thanks

I don't have Doc's but I do have Coiltek's Pocket Rocket system.  Basically the same without the amp.  Coiltek stop making these years ago.  Yes they are a lot lighter than the Minelab's brick.

I did find these a few months ago.   https://detectormods.com/shop/63/lightweight-battery-kit

Many thanks that does look like the battery kit that i am after, the biggest problem possibly is shipping to the UK....thanks again for your help and suggestion.

Yea the batteries may be an issue but you should be able to get those there in the UK.   Maybe ask on the main forum I know some members make their battery systems.

I have made the battery systems without the audio amplifier. If just using headphones you should be ok with out the audio amplifier. Let me know if you want more information about making your own system.

SD uses 7.4 v

GP uses 6.7 v

GPX uses 8.4 v

The Lithium camera battery’s are 7.4 v. But charge to 8.4 v, so a buck converter is need to reduce voltage for the SD/GP series only.

Loved my Docs Gold Screamer power pack. Used it on the 4000, 4500 & 5000. Initial investment is about what a minelab battery costs, but additional batteries are only about $50. I had 4 of them and could go all weekend, I think they lasted about 6-7 hours each from what I can remember. I don't recall there being any performance difference between the stock battery vs Docs system. Sure was nice not having to wear a belt to pack the battery around. I have a GPX 6000 and Axiom now, so it's been about 2 years since I sold the 5000 with the Doc system. I feel like the battery pack was a great investment though and never had any trouble with it. Hope that helps.

Yes. I have been using it on my 5000 for years. I think it is the best way to go.

Just a quick update,a dealer here in the UK is closing down and he had a spare as good as new Docs screamer battery package for about a 1/3 of the price from the US,so well pleased with that result.Batteries as such are not a problem as you can get most of them very cheaply here and will get a few new spare ones rather than carry around the massive battery that comes with the detector.

Many thanks for all your input and suggestions it's been a tremendous help.

Here in Spain there are many users who use these, they seem to give good results.  I personally haven't used it
