  1. I hit the same beach yesterday that I found the big mens class ring last week. The good karma must have come back to me for returning that ring to the owner as the beach gave up some nice goodies yesterday. A hat trick of gold......a 10k mens wedding band, a 10k ladies ring with three small diamonds and a beautiful 10k ladies broach/pin with a diamond and pearls. After a little research, the pin looks to be from the 1920's. And to boot, $11.66 in change. Klunker....I was looking for your initials "18k", but to no avail. I'll keep looking. Rob

  2. Great to see Codans profit increasing and share price moving positive also to see the amazing success of the powerful Z. Advances in its stability, sensitivity, GPS and depth are what`s important to me, I have no use for a discriminating gold machine in the country I prospect, but I can see ML perhaps have a market for this. As to the PIs being tapped out, perhaps the SDC can be developed further, discrimination and maybe its stability can carried over into a larger coil and its electronics put into say the CTXs case as the Z is, with a 14" coil option, priced at half of the Z it would be an ideal first gold detector. But a lightweight 10" coil as well as the coming 19" for the Z would be ideal for me. Aie to have a crystal ball, who 30+ years ago could see a detector such as the GPZ 7000. The A2B then was the producer for me.

  4. Headed to a local beach this afternoon for a much needed break and managed to swing for five hours. Picked up $13.75 in change, including a 1942 wheat penny, a large mens 10K gold 1976 class ring (which has initials, so I'll do my best to track down the owner), a .925 ring and .925 earring. The class ring has a gross weight of 17.57 grams giving it a pure gold content of 7.32 grams. Plus found some other odds and ends including three junk rings. Hunted with the CTX 3030 with the 17" coil. Not shown in the photo, 37 corroded zinc pennies that I pitched in the garbage. Good luck and happy hunting, Rob

  5. Regardless of what is coming around the corner....you still have to do the work and dig targets. There are plenty of areas to hunt, sure a perfect discriminator would be nice. I have endless placer grounds to hunt full of trash and where there is trash there is gold. VLF technology does not do it for me...love the sweet sound of a PI. Still using my 4500 with a 11' Commander coil.I wont upgrade until they have a perfect discriminating ZED.

  6. I have a 3030 and many times I dig everything with that. I'm sure I would dig 'most everything' in an area where I was finding gold. It would be too hard to trust the detector to be accurate on odd shaped, oddly composed nuggets and specimens.

  7. I have a couple more rule suggestions. Last year I understand there were some teams working, with one individual with a detector and one or more helpers with digging tools and pinpointers, allowing the individual with the detector to continue searching while others dig for him. This doesn't seem like it's in the spirit of the event and some consideration should be given to outlawing it. Last but not least, as more of an educational effort than anything else, how about making a rule that holes must be filled? I know that the tokens aren't buried very deep, but it's more of a matter of principle and creating good habits.

  8. I am getting out now and then but have been pretty laid back this year compared to last, and my nugget finds are suffering for it. I am busy on other fun projects however so no complaining from me. Still, some gold has been coming my way. This one I like for the character so I figured a photo was a requirement. 2.33 grams or 1.5 pennyweight. There sure is some nice gold in California!

  9. Hi Devilpookie ...... and thank you!! Kind of crazy how this thread has taken on a life of it's own. I have enjoyed reading the posts by various members since Steve got the ball rolling last February. We all have our personal preferences when it comes to our detecting gear and the BigFoot suits my style when it comes to coins and jewelry. I was out last Sunday afternoon for a short time with my DFX and my original BigFoot, got (39) coins and some good exercise!! That BigFoot sitting on the shelf is an insurance policy that guarantees I will have a lot more fun in the future if something goes wrong with my original BigFoot.

  10. I use the same one as Luke. Had mine for a few years now and still going strong. What I really like about this one is that the "belt loop" is Velcro so that it can be put on or removed without having to take my belt off. Dean

  12. We plant 100 brass tokens in this huge 40 acre or larger field. Nothing deep. You have 5 hours to find one. If you find one, you turn ot in. After the hunt, we call your name, you draw a poker chip numbered between 1-100. #1 gets the best prize. But we are at approximately 15 detectors now. Between the $500-800 range. There is also a kids hunt too. All kids got a detector last year.

  13. It was found with a GPZ 7000 at about 8". Nice little signal, just like all the bullets and broken square nails I dug for two days prior to finding it.
